About me:

I'm a stay at home mom with three kids, a dog and an active imagination. I spent the first 34 years of my life in Alaska, land of the midnight sun, but these days I'm located in Washington, and am enjoying a much warmer sun :) I'm married to my high school sweetheart, John, who is known to bring me flowers "just because".

My leisure time is filled with gardening, crochet, knitting, sewing, art and reading.

I found this book kind of choppy, but it's not really meant to be a stand-alone story. There's even a disclaimer in the beginning from the author, Autumn Dawn, stating it's not meant to be stand-alone. She wrote it due to the numerous requests she got for more information on the character Wiley after writing "The Charmer" (Darklands #1). This is actually the same story from a different point of view and ending sooner than book #1. Sure, you could read this without reading #1, but I think you would give it less than the 3 stars I did. I feel that my memories of "The Charmer" helped fill in some blanks while reading this. So my recommendation is to read book #1 first and continue with book #2 IF you still want more information on Wiley's point of view. In fact, it's been over a year since I read book #1 so I will be doing a re-read now.

While a very short read it is for the most part not worth bothering with.
As everyone points out, it mostly regurgitates the first book from Jaymes' and Wiley's POVs.

Wiley has always known she wasn't quite human but didn't know what she was. When she was about 4 she was separated from her parents and wandered into the human world, a connected realm to where 'the Haunt' live. She becomes an orphan and that is how she meets Jasmine and they become fast friends for life.

Wiley I didn't like as much as Jasmine, but I did feel her devotion as a friend to Jasmine more in this story than the first book.
The only thing this contributed to the series for me, was more insight into Wiley's mom. In fact, I would have liked to have heard if they had found out any more info when all was said and done about Wiley's getting lost when she was little.

I wouldn't bother reading this if you haven't read the first book as it would probably come across as pretty disjointed.

I'm happy that we got to see Wiley's side of the story, though I found her infinitely more frustrating than Jasmine. Jasmine seemed to accept staying a lot more readily that Wiley and it was Wiley's home land. Ok, technically she was somewhat abducted and told she was going to marry a sort-of stranger, but there was no one important back home and there was plenty of family who wanted her to stay. It just all seemed silly.

Jayems seemed more patient in The Charmer - or so it said. But perhaps that was in the moments that this skipped over, because even though this is pretty much The Charmer from Wiley's POV, The Charmer didn't follow them all around every minute since the start of the book so there were some events the same and some different. There were also things going on the Jasmine missed, which makes sense as Wiley calls her a dreamer. This is also sorter than the original too, simply covering the important bits from Wiley's arrival in her birth land.

I was surprised that there wasn't more about their marriage. Having deluded herself so much she didn't really fight to hold onto her delusion - not that I wanted her to at all! That may have made her beyond annoying, but she was holding out on so much else it seemed odd. Perhaps she finally came to her senses and admitted how she felt? Or it just wasn't presented to us. Or maybe it was just totally distracted away from her and in about 3 years she'll suddenly realise she was too busy melting and forgot to fight. If that's true, hopefully she just shrugs and gets on with it...

All the painful first time sex has been bothering me though - earlier this year I learnt that if properly prepared the first time can hold little to no pain at all and from the sounds of it, these guys are all about the build up. But then, considering I learnt something pretty fundamental about my gender's body from youtube and not sex ed/biology classes I'm unlikely to come across it in many books!

First, I had a hard time figuring out the sequence of the books in this series but according to the author's website, this is book two, yet at the end it says to read The Charmer to find out how it ends.

The way the book started out I thought it should have been the first book but this book is a repeat of The Charmer, just told from Wiley/Rihlia's perspective. Having these two books telling the same story, back to back was rather boring, you knew what was coming, what happens.

There hasn't been a clear description of what the Haunt are or what they look like. While there are aspects of this story that has the potential to be great it falls short.

Ok read this book second because at the authors website it was listed in second place. Read the charmer first. This book was a rehash of the charmer. Actually is was more informative than the charmer. It filled in the blanks of some of the instances in the charmer. I am wondering if the home coming was originally part of an anthology and the charmer was written to expand it. No that can't be right because the homecoming was more informative.. Oh well either way I liked the story.

I enjoyed it but I felt that the ending was rushed and unfinished. I know that this book is a back story of The Charmer but I feel like there should have been more. But overall it was a good book and I enjoyed it.

She can feel it in the air...they're coming for her.

She fears the wolf in her blood; he is the king of them all. Can a woman who fights her inner beast let the master of the hunt rule her, too?

Don't waist your time reading this...the series has been great, but I'd just consider this book an extra little something...

Good read although a large part of this book is a repeat of what we already got from Charmer (Book 1). A few new tidbits are thrown in so we get a little more information.

I enjoyed the spicy scenes definitely a tandem read with The Charmer by Autumn Dawn to get the full story for Wiley and Jasmine. Rereading it after 8 years definitely makes things interesting.
