Get a Grip On Dreams

Rate this book
After dark, in the privacy of our bedrooms, our dreams are where we lose our inhibitions. Valued by the ancients as a source of divine messages, dreams are now seen as the gateway to our secret desires and motivations. Get a Grip On Dreams takes you on a guided tour of our collective unconscious, looking at the scientific thinking about why we dream and how dreams work, and the psychological explanation of what it all means. From Artemidorus to Fritz Perls, this book will open your eyes to what goes on when sleep comes…

This book was a good overview of dreams. It covered scientific theories on dreaming and psychological dream interpretations.

Short, easy read. I, unfortunately, lost interest in the subject about half way through the book, so it was a bit of a slog to finish. That isn't to detract from the author, however, as it was my own expectations of dream interpretation that were misplaced.

A good quick read to learn about the role of dreams in people's lives. It does a good job covering the basics of dream history, theories, and some interpretations, though on the topic of interpretation, I do agree with William Domhoff when he said "What is relevant is the meaning we place upon dreams after we wake up. Because we think they have meaning--they do!"

Good to have reference of all the people who have researched about dreams, all the proper terms and way to describe the dreaming process.
The downside is that most of the meanings described are kind of obvious, if you dream that something is chasing you, it means you feel your problems are chasing you, or stuff like that. Maybe it is because the level of the book is kind of basic.

This book is incredibly fun, it's sort of like a dummy's tool guide that shares a wealth of information on dreaming. I did not know that dreams are our gateway to our secret desires and motivations, wow, I better stop having all these crazy dreams!

GOD it took me almost a month to finish this.
To be honest, I don't dislike this book. I actually liked the way they packed a lot of information into small tidbits. It wasn't hard to read like some non-fiction books.
