I have been a Pokemon fan since 2023. I played the games Platinum, White, White 2, Heartgold, and Emerald. Pokemon has been a staple in the childhoods of many people in my generation but I would not say the same for myself since I only really played the games recently. However, I became a big enough Pokemon fan to want to read the manga even if I got into the franchise really late. Here is my review for the first three volumes of the manga.

The first three volumes of the manga follow Red, a boy who wants to become the greatest Pokemon Trainer. His rival on his quest is Blue, another boy who wants to become the strongest Pokemon Trainer. They are both opposed by Team Rocket, an evil organization which does experiments on Pokemon. They go to adventures in different towns and cities encountering many dangers.

I found this manga to be really fun to read. I never played Generation 1 of Pokemon or its remakes so this manga felt really fresh. I loved following both Red and Blue. I thought that their adventures were really riveting and exciting. There were so many fun Pokemon battles throughout the manga which I enjoyed reading. My favorite ones though were the climatic battles. They had me hooked. I would scared to turn the page over the suspense.

I immensely enjoyed reading Volumes 1, 2, and 3 of the Pokemon manga in this volume. I am hoping that I get to read further into the manga series. I want to go on more adventures with Pokemon.

It took me a while to adjust to how the story progresses. After playing the games and watching the TV show, the author’s adaptation played against my mind.

There is no shortage of action and adventure. When Red is in a battle, I can’t wait to turn the page and see how it plays out. It can be a real page turner, and I don’t say that about every manga I read.

I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series and seeing what adventure lays ahead.

Pokémon Adventures 01 is a good graphic novel of Red (not to be confused with the Ash Ketchum and the 4Kids TV show). The playful tale is fun with decent characters (for a manga, which are usually incredibly stale or generic). It has the right mix of story telling, well-designed frames, and excellent pacing. A good read for Pokemon die-hards who don't realize this series is a thing.

Visiting the Pokemon manga as someone who grew up consuming all other forms of Pokemon media except the manga felt like a warm hug to one's inner child. Cozy, immersive, and with lots of funny moments.

The manga is indeed heavier than the anime, but it doesn't lose the charm of following a young person on their journey towards adventure, meeting Pokemon and friends along the way!
