Returning from town, Evie, the Countess of Woodridge, and Tom Winchester find the village buzzing with excitement. Finally, they are getting married and everyone is thrilled and eagerly awaiting the day to celebrate the long awaited nuptials.
While they play host to wedding guests arriving from near and far, they each deal with their wedding jitters, even though they know nothing and no one will stand in their way.
… anyone present who knows a reason why these persons may not lawfully marry…
If anything can interfere with their wedding plans it is bound to be something quite ominous. Something along the lines of a dead body discovered in the crypt inside the Woodridge family chapel where Tom and Evie have been practicing the wedding ceremony.
A body with a gunshot wound to the heart.
The weapon is found and provides unquestionable proof of guilt.
Really sad it's another series of thoughts rather than actual detecting... Millicent is somehow not recognised because she's dressed for dinner despite multiple guests knowing who she is... come on now...
Enjoyed this a lot, it might have been the best so far. I felt more love and caring between Evie & Tom this time. I also liked that the three old ladies were in the book less than in prior books. To me they are more of a distraction than an addition to the stories. Had a good ending and a surprise as to who done it.
One of the things I like best about this series is the comic relief provided by The Dowager Duchesses and Toodles. They have been in the background, almost missing from the last few books. In this entry they are back in full force. A very enjoyable way to pass a few hours. I can't wait until the next book "Murder By The Book". The only problem is that there is a long wait between new entries!
Evie and Tom are finally getting married. That is if Evie isn't arrested for murdering the man whose body is found in the chapel on Evie's estate. Pro's: Developed characters, and a solid plotline. Con's: This entire wedding adventure over the last few books has left me scratching my head as Evie found and stole and hid the engagement ring before Tom could propose.
Enjoyed the way it kept me guessing about who the killer was. Always enjoy the many witty, slightly nutty characters who make the books such a delight. Bring on the next one.
This was a hilarious belly laugh out loud historical murder mystery romance with witty banter and saucy wit. Too many suspects and the killer leading everyone in a circle.💃🏻❣️🤣😉
I do enjoy these books. The vast and witty conversations of each character keeps the story moving along and early onset dementia has its sad conclusion
