A carefully structured self-teaching guide, this completely updated edition of Graphic Design School provides current information on computer-aided design and the use of software applications in all aspects of design, including the creation of successful corporate logos, advertisements, and magazine design solutions.
An extremely useful book. Everything is clearly explained, and in a logical order. Before reading this I had a few good classes with basics in composition, and learned painting from peers and practice. I sold originals, prints, and cards I designed, made ads for artist friends. This book allowed me to re-enforce what I had discovered, and go further. I suspect the book isn't magic, you need to be creative to do really good designs, but this book gives you the knowledge and inspiration to take off from. I used the lessons in this to design my science fiction book covers (listed on this site.) Book store managers and others deem them acceptable.
This is a good self-teaching guide, simple, clear and complete. As a very beginner, I think the book is great in covering most if not all the aspects of graphic design. But since the author has a lot of experience working as a typographer, he seemed talk a little more on typography than anything else.
One of the best books I've read on graphic design. It covers all the bases with clear writing and interesting and helpful graphics and examples. There are exercises, case studies, and a glossary. Everything you'd want and need in a graphic design book. Thanks Mr. Dabner and team!
