3,5/5 actually. The sketches are mind-blowing and the book includes many advices for somebody who wants to be more creative. Nonetheless, I think the artists should write more about their artwork and how to improve your techniques.
Contemporary, relevant, brilliant! For those who love to draw, who are not looking for a how to, but rather, simply some inspiration (and maybe a little pleasurable art voyeurism). Mostly fantasy, very little landscape or realistic, some portraiture. The styles worked for me, but may not for those who prefer more scenery, or who interpret creative drawing as representational images with impressionistic, and or brush-style marks. Here, it means primarily fantasy, with a fair amount of Sy-Fy, some cartoon-comics, and a select few graphic-surreal doodles. Perfect for me. There are also several others by the same publishing company, for different genre's, and a continuation of this. All along the same format (I WANT!)
This is one of my favorite new books on creativity! It's a very simple layout of brief interviews with artists followed by a few of their sketches, and I found inspiration on every single page. I tabbed up this entire library book and wrote 3 full pages of quote notes.
I'm not a sketchbook artist and drawing isn't my medium right now, but it doesn't matter. This book had so many keen insights about the creative process that would be interesting to anyone in a creative field!
Highly recommend if you're a fellow creative looking for some art candy!
I was a fun quick read and i actually think that a learnd something. It's so intressing to read about all of the diffrent artist and i feel so inspired. I wished that we could see more of how the final sketch got developed. And the text's feelt repetitiv sometimes.
The Book Review Sketching from the Imagination: An Insight into Creative Drawing, Is a must have for any Doodler, Artist or Graphic Designer. It's a great tool to be used to be inspired by the amount of rich content put into the book. There are 50 Artists that have contributed their own art and some of them have even put art at the early stages of the design and creation process. There is a brief write-up by the artist (About half a page) varying from: How they get their inspiration or/and what stuff they like to sketch or/and what tools they use or/and some nice small write up about them and there are descriptions of all the sketches present in this book by the artist him/herself. There are about 4-6 pages (2 Pages = Front and Back) of each of the artist's work which is displayed in rich and beautiful, clear print. This book is not a "How-To", So do not expect anything and teaches you how to sketch, instead it does a real good job in giving you inspiration, I find this helpful when I have artist's block making the book just one of the tools that help me overcome it. Sketching from the Imagination: An insight into Creative Drawing is a very detailed and useful tool to have as an artist or anyone who loves art and wants to awe at beautiful work of people from around the world. This book is sure to give you of one of just many idea's and will definitely be a good collection for any artist out there. Must Have and wroth every buck spent for quality and quantity, delivered.
Other Notes about the Book's spec's: The book is very sturdy, has quite a strong spine and the page's are held together very well, It does not feel that the glue would give out overtime. The pages feel wonderful to touch and have very good finish. The print and cuts are done professionally (as always by 3DTotal Publishing) and I've not found a problem in my copy of the book. Overall, with a bit of love and care taken the book can last for years to come.
This could have used a little more editing, and the "insight" promised in the title wasn't terribly profound. Those gripes aside, I'm usually a sucker for some good sketchbook pages and there's a decent amount of variety on display here. Also, hearing artists speak at all (however briefly) about what inspires them and guides the beginnings of their ideas is always welcome.
