Samuel Langhorne Clemens, known by the pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, humorist and essayist. He was praised as the "greatest humorist the United States has produced," with William Faulkner calling him "the father of American literature." His novels include The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884), with the latter often called the "Great American Novel." Twain also wrote A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (1889) and Pudd'nhead Wilson (1894), and co-wrote The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today (1873) with Charles Dudley Warner.

I really enjoyed reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer because I never read it when I was child. Also, it has events in each chapter that make the reader get exciting to continue reading the book. It is about a young boy Tom who always searching for a new adventure but he end it in trouble. Tom lives with his Aunt Polly. He likes Becky Thatcher a new girl in school. He hangs out with Huck Finn. One night both of them witness a murder but they scared to tell the troth. Tom is adventurer young boy who excite to find treasure one day.

This book is about a boy named Tom who goes on a lot of adventures, and in doing so gets in a lot of trouble. Tom finds himself in many dangerous situations, but he always figures out how to get out of them. Tom also falls in love with a girl, Becky Thatcher.
The Book “Tom Sawyer” takes place in a small town, St. Petersburg, in Missouri. The story takes place all over the town. Tom and his friends frequently swim in the river, play in the cave, and even go to the graveyard. Tom, the main character, lives with his aunt Polly and Sidney. Tom is a wild, imaginative boy who is constantly getting in trouble. Sid acts like a perfect child and likes to tattle tale on Tom. Aunt Polly is Tom’s guardian, and she is constantly punishing him.
Tom enjoys skipping school and playing with his friends. He also likes girls. He falls in love with a girl named Becky Thatcher. One day while in the graveyard with Huckleberry Finn, he witnesses a murder. They both swear not to tell anybody about what they witnessed. Tom and a few friends then decide to run away to an island, where they pretend to be pirates. Tom then goes on a field trip into the caves. He goes off alone with Becky, and they become lost.
I really liked this book because it was quite funny. It was slightly hard to read at times because it is an older book. I liked the ending, because everything works out. My favorite part was when Tom showed up at his own funeral and shocked everybody. One thing I disliked was the boring chapters about school and church. Overall is was a good book.
If I had to rate this book, I would give it four out of five stars, because it was full of many surprises. It has a fairly fast moving plot, although it can be slightly boring at times. I would recommend this book for students in junior high because it can be slightly difficult to understand.

I picked this one up because it's a classic, and I was curious to know why so. I'll admit it's hard to understand it if you're not super attentive to every word on the page; I even had to say some of them out loud, otherwise it was difficult trying to identify what they were meant to be based solely on their spelling (the characters use that very old-age, midwestern dialect). The conversations the characters share are entertaining, particularly because of the logic that makes total sense from a child's point of view, but little to no sense from an adult's perspective. The story played in my mind like "Little House on the Praire", and I quite enjoyed that vibe. Though the pacing fell flat for me, I never considered not finishing this book, because it's an important piece of American literature; it's nice and it's fairly short.

When I started reading it, it thought I would abandon it, because it seemed to be for younger audience. But, when I read a few chapters, I was fascinated by the memories of the childhood Tom and his friends brought me. It is a good read if you like to reminisce the time you were 10 and adventurous (and a little mischievous).

Mark Twain's language can sometimes stump English Language Learners, especially the dialect in character dialogues. So this plain language edition is an easy introduction to Twain's classic. I recommend it.

Tom Sawyer entertained me with his unpredictable adventures and reminded me of the fun -- and often foolish -- things I did as a child. Tom's wonderful schemes with Huckleberry never failed to seize my attention as they sought out ridiculous task after task from curing warts in a graveyard to digging for treasure in an abandoned house.
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer also warmed my heart by reminding me of childhood crushes and first love. In particular, I was charmed by how much Tom's relationship with Becky matured throughout the story, progressing from instances of misbehavior in class and on the schoolyard to gain her attention to sacrificing himself to Mr. Walters in order to protect the woman he loved. To me, Tom Sawyer represents the freedom of adolescence and reminds me to reflect on my own childhood experiences.

I was excited to read this book because I had started it before but never finished. I thought it was interesting on how Tom went about things. I was surprised on how many things that he did for Becky. When Huck and Tom made a promise I didn't think that either one of them would tell the truth. I then found out that one of them did tell. I wasn't too surprised when Tom and Becky got lost on their trip. I about jumped out of my chair when Tom came face to face with a murderer. I was then relieved when I found out what had happened to the murderer. The rest of the story is filled with lots of different adventures. Overall, I was very shocked at how brave and outgoing Tom Sawyer was. It was also surprising that Tom was the only kid that would really ever hang out with Huckleberry Finn.

Tom Sawyer, his friend Huck Finn, and a new girl that Tom loves always are looking for adventure. When they are looking then they tend to also find trouble, dangerous situations, and mischief.
This is a must-read for children in third to fourth grade. This Classic Starts series retells traditional stories in a way that is easier for young readers to follow and understand.
Students could retell their favorite adventure or part of the story depending on how far they are into the story. Students could create a writing piece to show the sequence of three events.
Students could also tell a part of the story from the perspective of the girl, Becky Thatcher.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is about the adventures of a young boy named Tom who lives in the American Midwest during the 1800s. Although Tom's adventures are distinctively rural, Mark Twain manages to imbue them with a sense of importance. Twain does this by giving Tom a multidimensional quest set in caves and haunted houses, a love-interest whose love Tom has to win, a sidekick from a different socioeconomic background than Tom's, and a villain guilty of both larceny and murder. By dressing the adventures in the trappings of the American Midwest, Twain makes this hero's story refreshing and interesting to read.

Tom's aunt was calling him but there was no answer and then finally he came. He got a punishment for coming late. On the next day while tom was doing his punishment many people came to offer stuff to him. When he went to school on his way he was thinking to get himself in trouble by sitting with the girls. He told his teacher that he wouldn't talk to him. And the teacher put him by becky, he gave her a peach to impress her and he scrawled I love you. He has his adventure's with Huckleberryfinn. I loved this book because it is funny.

I read this book aloud to D at bedtime each night. We are working our way through the classic starts series. This is a classic. I didn't love it, and neither did Daniel. Swiss Family Robinson and Around the World in 80 Days are our favorites so far. This was ok. We read about Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn's adventures.

It was enjoyable to read this classic with my son. The vocabulary is refreshingly challenging and keeps you on your toes. There are some obvious racial slurs of a novel this old, so we changed some phrasing and explained some things as we went. But how refreshing for a boy to be reminded to be a boy full of imagination and adventure. Our children need that today.

Muy bueno, fácil de leer a pesar del inglés antiguo que utiliza. Es fácil de seguir y engancha, además de que te presenta historias muy chulas y diferentes a las que nos imaginamos al pensar en Tom Sawyer. Tambien me gusta como retrata la vida de aquella época y el pensamiento de un niño con todo el conjunto de supersiticiones y creencias propias de su edad y su época.

This was a really fun book to read. It is an enjoyable book all the way through, and there is never a dull moment. The story goes by fast and keeps the reader interested in what is about to happen. The book gets the reader to care about the characters and be interested in their story. Overall, it is an extremely fun read.

I should get credit for actually reading this six times, as I’ve read it in my own, then had to reread for all five of my ELA classes! For what it is, as tale of various youthful adventures, it’s good. Good pacing and lively characters and drama to keep the kids occupied, while Twain’s criticisms of the church and civil society brings a depth that makes it thought provoking for all ages.

This book is wonderful for a 3rd to 4th grade level. It is very easy to follow, and has content that stays around grade level.

This book follows the adventures of Tom Sawyer as he hunts for buried treasure, visits graveyards, and explores dark and secret caves near him house.

Me esperaba otra historia la verdad. Encontré que fue un libro súper oscuro, Tom me molestó en muchas ocasiones y el definitivamente podría ser un lost boy de Peter Pan.

A fun and inviting read. Twain writes with wit and includes amusing twists that never feel forced or overdone. The dialogue between the boys was detailed and realistic, as well as relatable. The boys are not unnecessarily smart, dumb, or evil - they are just juvenile.
