Gray Turner wasn’t expecting to see Katie Meyer (Anderson) the girl he’d had a crush on in high school. He didn’t want anything to do with her either even though she was begging him to help find her son, Tyler. He didn’t know if he could trust her especially after she accidently let her gun discharge on him. That was how desperate she was to find Tyler who had been kidnapped. His dad wanted to turn him into what he was, but Katie wasn’t going let that happen.
Katie didn’t have many options but to go the trail on her own once Gray turned her down. It was not a wise decision though because not only where her ex’s guys out there, but a bounty hunter too. The bounty hunter torn her room apart, but she’d already left it thankfully. However, neither Gray nor the FBI knew that and Gray went after her to bring her back then to find her son. He promised her dad that he would get her back safely.
Once Gray found her and they waited out the snow storm he sent her back down the mountain with the FBI and the Bounty Hunter. He was on his own because the FBI Agent wasn’t any help because he wasn’t on the straight and narrow at all. Gray had to find that out the hard way. He was found by Katie who escaped custody to find him. She had to save his life she told herself and with her help Gray’s life was saved before he died of exposure after being laced with PCP by the FBI. During those hours of the drug induced haze he was the guy she remembered and she couldn’t help but wish he was that guy when he wasn’t drugged.
Gray finally understood that Katie wasn’t in with her ex; she was still the girl he knew just changed by what she’d been through. He also knew he had to stop blaming her and his own self for his mentor Hoot’s death when they were teens. Life happened as he’d told her along with confessing his love for her. He knew he had to do anything to keep Katie and her son safe. He didn’t know if he’d see her again after he got them to safety, but he just had to risk it. Somewhere along the way of finding Tyler, her son, they saved each other from the past.
Pat White is an excellent author and she knows how to make a reader’s heart pull for the main characters. This book needs more than five stars, but only five on this rating scale; defiantly a favorite book and author.
