Never been touched, never been kissed — until Kieran enters the picture.
Being one of the last regular mortals left in the world, Cale has spent most of his life in hiding and in isolation. Out in the woods, there weren’t a lot of opportunities for him to experiment or gather experience. Now that he’s back among people, though, he plans to change things.
As luck would have it, fate leads him to a gorgeous storm dragon shifter, and Cale can hardly believe it when the handsome stranger leans in close and shamelessly flirts with him.
Cale wants Kieran, but Kieran is keeping a secret -- he’s been cursed, and anyone he loves will get hurt.
This is the last entry in the Last Mortals series. Happy Ending guaranteed.
This book has potential and some sexy moments, but the romance feels too rushed and some emotional scenes veer into cheesy territory.
Cale is endearing, although he gave me a bit too much secondhand embarrassment. I feel that we missed out on the chance to connect deeper with him, because all his past suffering is mostly summarized.
Kieran is super sexy in his first appearance, but he loses that spark when he gets his own scenes. And the way he goes from learning the gravity of his curse to claiming his mate in the same night? That definitely made me raise an eyebrow.
I’m mildly curious about the other dragons’ story, but I doubt they’ll be more fleshed out than this one, so I don’t think I’ll give it a try.
This series has easily become one of my favorites. Each book is a fun quick read and they all bring something different to the table. I’m so sad this was the last book😭
I didn’t know what to expect going into this book but I was excited that it was about Cale because he really deserved a HEA after everything that he went through :(
Kieran wanting to be with Cale but knowing he couldn’t but ending up not being able to fight off his pull toward Cale. I love fated mates and the instant connection they have tbh
“He had never felt so connected to someone, as if their souls were vines, wrapping around each other, growing together as if that was what they were always meant to do.”
This was so different than the other 3 books in this series because it was emotional in so many ways. My soul physically hurt for Cale and Kieran at one point in the story.
“You’re my most important treasure, and I don’t know what I’d do without you.” 😫
They deserved their happy ending, I just wish there was a little more of it.
I will honestly read anything Silvana puts out so I’m excited for the spin off for Sven👀
I have read every single book in this series and have enjoyed reading every single one. This one though takes the cake, in my opinion. This is not only my favorite book in the series, but Cale and Kieran or now my favorite characters as well.
All of these books have been incredibly well written, and has had tons of world building, along with having terrific characters. It's one thing to write a good story, it's another to write great characters, and Silvana did both of those things with this book.
I adored Cale, the fact that his best friend was Petalia and that he learned her language was so endearing. Even though she loved to gossip you could tell that even though she is a flower, she truly cares about Cale. Something else I adored about Cale's character was his lack of a filter. He just said what he was thinking and what he was feeling with no qualms. He didn't bother censoring himself, and like Kieran said, it's a refreshing attribute. I wish we got to know more about Sven and his character, but I understand why he wasn't the most prevalent side character. I am intrigued by him though, I'm looking forward to his story.
Kieran is different from all the other dragons that have been featured in this series, and it's not just because he's a storm dragon. Although admittedly that's really cool. What sets him apart is how much he cares for people's well-being, and how he truly cared about Cale from the start. Yes, he tried to keep Cale at a distance but he had his reasons. I appreciated the fact this book wasn't as angsty as the others have been, and while these two didn't have as much of an uphill battle towards being together they did have a different type of battle to conquer.
That battle being the curse that has been affecting his family for generations. I really liked how Silvana came up with the curse and how they gave us the backstory on how the family came to be cursed. I found that very interesting and unique. Although make sure you have tissues nearby, Cale and Kieran's story is definitely a tear jerker.
Overall I highly recommend this story, it's in my opinion, the best one of the series. I'll also note that it was nice seeing appearances from the characters in the previous books, that was really neat!
I enjoyed this book and thought that it was a good conclusion to the Last Mortals Series. Cale, is one of the last remaining mortals. He used to live in hiding and in isolation in the woods near the fae border. He’s now moved to the magically protected mortal community within the fire dragon kingdom. His best friend is a talking fae flower named Petalia, who’s a huge gossip. The other mortals are wary of Cale and think he’s really weird because he talks to his plants. At least he’s friendly with his neighbour Sven. When Sven and Cale go into town during the comment festival Cale locks eyes with a hot as hell Storm Dragon called Kieran. Cale is shocked when Kieran comes over to him and starts flirting with him. I loved Cale’s complete lack of filter, as it made me smile. Cale and Kieran hit it off and I really liked that Kieran was upfront that nothing can come of their time together since he has to leave soon, and he travels so much for work.
It was sad when it was revealed the real reason behind why Karen doesn’t get close to anything. Man, I really. Don’t believe that Kieran and his family should’ve suffered for their relatives lack of action years ago. I didn’t really like the way Blake treated Kieran throughout this book. Yes, I can understand why he was angry but he has his own dragon mate so he should know that Kieran wouldn’t purposely hurt his mate. I thought the chemistry between them was off the charts. I can’t believe what the testing the doctor tried to put Cale through, like what the f*ck? No wonder Kieran lost his sh*t and fully shifted in order to protect his mate. The family dinner at the sun dragon castle between the dragons and their mates made me smile especially when Cale blurted out that Kieran is just getting a bit hands under the table, when Nevin asked if he was alright. I’m looking forward to reading more books by Silvana Falcon in the future. I’d recommend this book, series and author to others.
"You are the dream I never dared to dream," he whispered into Cale's ear..
!!! This was such a sweet read! I was so intrigued by Cale in the previous book, I'm glad he got to have his own happy ending. I loved getting to know more about him and see his point of view of the results of Blake's book. Cale hasn't been around people for a long time so he sort of has no filter and speaks very honestly which I found so endearing. He was just trying to navigate this new world he was finally getting to be part of, and his eagerness to experience was a trait that was easy to root for.
Kieran, my beloved <3 Kieran is a storm dragon which first of all is cool AF. Like??? I'm such a sucker for any magic that somehow connects with the weather. Kieran has the weight of the world on his shoulders and struggles throughout the book with a pretty hefty family...issue. It makes him not want to get close to people but the moment he meets Cale he's unable to stop the pull he feels toward him.
Experienced/inexperienced is one of my favorite tropes. The dynamic between Kieran and Cale in relation to that trope reminded me a lot of the dynamic between the two main characters in Virgin Flyer by Lucy Lennox which is one of my all time favorite books which is also probably why I enjoyed this so much.
Kieran and Cale were beyond cute together, the possessiveness that comes with, ya know, being a dragon and all that mixed with Cale's overall inexperience? Chef's kiss of a dynamic. I loved how protective of Cale that Kieran was, and how Kieran found Cale's bluntness to be a relief.
Overall, this was a fun and light read, and I definitely would recommend this whole series to anyone who just wants some good old fashioned destined to be kinds of romance :)
"You're not looking at the book." "My apologies. I find it hard to look at anything else when you're in the room."
4 stars. Love this series, and the writing is consistently good across the books.
This book followed the story of Cale, Blake's brother who had been hidden in the Fae Lands in the last book, and his life once he was moved to be in the human community near his brother. It also introduces Storm dragons and Kieran in particular, who this time is not royalty. Combined with a curse on fated mates on Kieran's family, and a sassy talking flower that only Cale understands, plus Cale's own lack of filter when expressing his thoughts, then we're off on another adventure with a lot of humour.
This may be the one I didn't enjoy as much, possibly because it felt like Cale was neglected by his brother after all Blake did to protect him, but seemed to rarely visit once Cale moved from the Fae Lands, which Cale missed and found it hard to adjust being part of the human community. However Cale does point out a couple of times to his brother how isolated he was, which at least acknowledged that setup, but I felt there could have been some more depth on their relationship in this book.
Another point is the use of 'dragoness' for female dragons - I prefer the non-gendered use of dragon as don't see why they are differentiated (e.g. manager vs manageress...). The ending also felt a little rushed, I think i was hanging out for an epilogue, so for the book to just end without those buffer pages, I felt some lack of closure.
I received a copy of this ARC from the author, and this is my honest review.
What a good book! I love the idea of shifters and fated mates and I do tend to gravitate towards these stories at times. The plot started with a reluctant visit to town for Cale. His neighbor and only friend Sven decided he needed to get out of his house for a bit. Once in town, Cale met a beautiful dragon name Kieran. Kieran has all the experience and Cale was instantly drawn to him. Only Kieran has a secret, one he isn’t willing to share with Cale.
So much intrigue, right? It is just enough to keep me guessing anyway. I mean what can keep fated mates apart besides one very stubborn dragon? I really liked each of the characters especially Cale and Petalia. I accidentally read this book first by accident but it was so well written that I didn’t realize it was part of a series until partway through the story. Now, that I’ve already read the series I’m curious to see more of Sven is his spinoff. 😊
I have loved this whole series. The things these mortals and their dragons go through!! Oh my goodness. Cale certainly deserves a happy ending after everything. Kieran’s family also doesn’t deserve to suffer for the actions of someone ages and ages ago. I see Blake hasn’t had much of an improvement to his temperament either. It is a good thing Cale and Lysander love him! This was a good story of fate mates, magic, dragons, and curses that need to be broken. I believe the dragons of Aetherspire are in need of a bit of an attitude adjustment if they think it is ok to subject people to treatment and tests they way they planned. Yikes. The royal dragons we all know and love might have to get involved here. I am curious to see what happens in this world in the future…as long as our dragons and their fated mates get their happily ever-afters that is!
The doctor at the dragon's lab made me furious and gave me de ja vue of the labs that abused shifters with experiments. But I loved Kieran's response to being told to leave the lab- explosive!! I liked how each man/dragon was ready to sacrifice all for the love of the other. I was heartsick when Cale became ill. They can't catch a break. Will the curse take Cale, or will their bond and the flowers be the cure for the curse? Chapter 19 had me in tears , but the ending was worth it.
What a sweet story. I loved Cale and Kieran. The idea of a dragon who's entire family has been cursed is so sad. The tension throughout the story is a little drawn out but understandable as it is woven into the plot.
I just wish I had a plant that could talk to me! With the heat we are having this summer it would be appreciated. Especially if it would keep my plants alive!
A fun fantasy adventure with dragons & other interesting beings, magic plants, curses, and love conquering all! I simply love these sparkly, winged dragon-dudes, the imagery, descriptions & whole world Silvana's created. It's cool to reconnect with familiar characters from the series as well. Exciting plot, curses, true mates, snarky flowers - what's not to love?!
Blake's brother Cale suddenly feels drawn to a strange dragon from another kingdom, during a festival. There are a lot of impediments to their being fated mates, one of them being a curse on Kieran's family. They have to endure many struggles to finally get their HEA. I am sorry that this is the final book in the series.
This was a cute lil book that had me tearing up a few times. The ending got to me in the best way. While I enjoyed elements of the book, it was a bit slow and boring at times, which hampered some of my enjoyment. Overall, this was a cute and fluffy book.
This book was cute! It had some dramatics moments, but was not as heavy as the previous book.
Cale, the socially ackwark human brother of Drake, was living alone in the Fae world. He have a special ability that let him talk to flowers.
Kieran storm dragon diplomate/embassador. There is a curse on his family, his loved one is fated to die, so he prefer to have no attachment what so ever.
The mother of Sven, a human friend is sick, and the only cure is rare flower that could cure any disease, but that never bloom. Cale might also be the only chance to figure how what exactly this flower need.
Cale was super honest and have no filter, but Kieran keep hiding the thruth from him, which cause some miscommunication.
