Each short story was mind boggling in their own ways. Loved the suspense and horror that each tale held my attention with.

Watchers was my favorite of the three. It was an amazing story that has the ability to make someone laugh, and make someone cry. Very touching characters.

Okay so I will review these books as I read them. I am not sure if I will read all of them so the dates may be spread out. Dean Koontz is an amazing author, and he is one of my all-time favorites! I love all of his books that I have read so far; and believe me I have read a lot of them.

Shattered (02/18/2024-02/19/2024) May contain slight spoilers about ending.
My rating: 4/5 stars
Alex Doyle and his stepson are on a road trip moving to their new home. They will be driving in a car for about 5 days going from Philadelphia all the way to California! They are starting their new life there. Courtney is waiting for them. Alex and her just got married and Colin is her little brother. Courtney is already in California setting up the house and getting it ready. She flew there and left Alex and Colin to drive together so they could spend time together and also because Alex did not want to get rid of his Thunderbird. It is a new car and it is a real beauty!

On this road trip they notice a moving van following them. After a while they realize that it is more than a coincidence that they keep seeing the same van. This person driving this van seems crazy and wants to hurt Alex and Colin. They don't know who this driver is or what he could possibly want with them. I rated this 4 out of 5 stars because even though it had a clear ending, I wish it would have gone on just a little bit more. I think it should have included an epilogue or something that showed the couple reuniting and Courtney explaining what happened and etc. This whole road trip they couldn't wait to be in California to start their new life together with Courtney. While they are reunited and that is great it should have had just a little more in the ending. This is just my opinion though. I know the ending was ended in a way where it basically obvious what happened, but I would have still liked to actually read about it a bit more haha.
This was a great story though and I enjoyed it greatly. It had some terrifying moments and very intense ones at that.

Whispers (02/20/2024-02/26/2024)
My rating: 5/5 stars

Another absolutely amazing horror story. I loved the MCs Hilary & Tony a well as all the side characters. I loved everything about this supernatural horror book. Ghosts? Demons? ppl rising from dead? creepy crawlies that can be felt but not seen? Can it be real? A madman is hunting Hilary bc he believes she is his mother come back from dead to inhabit her body. He hunts down anyone he believes is his dead mother. Hilary kills Bruno the madman but somehow he isn't dead bc she keeps getting attacked by him.
Read this you won't regret it! A hell of a twisted ending!

Maybe I got over-saturated with his writing, but this book was a bear to get through. Each story would be a lot better if an editor had been involved and cut the unnecessary yet excruciatingly detailed side stories in "Watchers". I found "Whispers" to be too graphic at times but a better story. I don't even recall "Shattered", the first novel in this collection.

I only read Watchers because my friend recommended it to me but it took forever to read and although a good story it dragged out and had problems.

So hard to get through. I find Dean Koontz much too wordy, and didn't appreciate all the psychopathic sexualization of the women in each of the stories. Or the sexualization of anyone in general. Koontz seems rather formulaic; the stories got tiresome very quickly. They did, however get progressively more interesting as each story had a more complex plot line than the next. The last story, Watchers, seems to be the most popular (and the one for which the book was recommended to me), probably because the sweet, highly intelligent dog who is capable of complex thinking and communication was its saving grace.

This review is really just for Watchers, but they only had it in this tri-novel book. Watchers is probably one of my favorite books of all time. If you like dogs & love the idea of a dog who can communicate with humans, you will love this book. The added intrigue of the monster brother of the dog is just such a Koontz addition. It is worth reading & will have you in tears at the end; it always does me.

Suspense, mystery, science/science fiction, and a touch of the metaphysical are all components which comprise this and other novels from this author. He never fails to entertain and he never fails to prompt thoughtful consideration about possible futures.

This collection of stories is a little hit or miss. The first, Shattered, was good, but nothing special. Whispers was interesting but saved the killer twist (shudder) until the very end. SO very creepy. It was better than Shattered. And Watchers was simply amazing. Loved it, loved it.

I brought this omnibus of 3 Koontz novels along with me for my first semester at college. I breezed through all three pretty quickly, because I didn't have any friends for about the first two months.

Just not a fan of his style of writing. Took me a long time to read it and try to get into it. I got 3/4 into Watchers and finally decided to quit.. Reading a much better book now!
