4 SWEET AND STEAMY STARS

Happenstance is a light, fun read about how life can bring you an unexpected chance at love. It’s got a little bit of drama and a lot of sizzle. Fun characters that are heartwarming, sexy and leave a smile on your face. I thought it was a good debut by M.J Abraham. I’m definitely looking forward to more books by this author in the future.

Victoria’s life took a turn that she never saw coming. She’s 25, divorced, moving to a new place away from family and starting a new job. She wants a fresh start and a new life. One that doesn’t include a cheating ex husband. On her way out and about one day an unfortunate situation occurs which lands her at the veterinarian's office. While there she meets a very sexy doctor named Jared Owens (yummy) !! When she see’s Jared there is definitely lust at first sight on both accounts (his and hers). They go on a couple dates and their relationship starts to heat up. Victoria wants to keep things light with Jared though because she’s not ready to put herself back into a serious relationship and take the chance of being hurt again. So her friend sets her up with another guy named Steven. This creates a lot of drama and a love triangle that has shocking results. Victoria learns that Jared just might be the man of her dreams. Can she allow herself to open up and take a chance at love again?

You’ll have to read to find out ;)

Overall I thought this was a very good light read. There is a bit of a traumatic experience in it, that I thought the author handled well. Jared seemed sensitive and supportive to Victoria but still had a witty and alpha male personality. I thought his cute sense of humor was very sexy (LOVED the t-shirts he wore all the time) .

I found Victoria a bit annoying at times but totally understood her attitude towards Jared. When you’ve been hurt you tend to put up a wall and a barrier to protect yourself. Victoria goes through a lot in this book. Not only does she have to deal with the after effects of her divorce but has to deal with two HUGE life events. I thought her strength and the way she pulled herself together were admirable and I kinda loved her. **I do not suffer from whiny chick syndrome...lol. For some reason chicks that most consider annoying do not bother me.**

Jared and her were absolutely adorable together. Their chemistry was hot and the sex scenes were yummy. I love a sizzling story and really enjoyed that part of this book.

I would recommend Happenstance if you are looking for something quick and easy to read. Something light after a heavy or angsty book. This story is one that leaves you feeling good and I loved it.

-Sidenote- I also have to say that I’ve seen a lot of book covers but this is one of my favorites. It fits the story perfectly. It’s sexy and cute and makes me smile.

This book was a major let down, the summary seemed well enough but once I got to reading it well, lets just say the summary was better. The author described this book as a fun, short, love story but it was anything but. The whole relationship felt phony and rushed. Not to mention the ridiculous over dramatic fights, I honestly couldn't stand both characters. I can usually find some redeeming qualities in most characters but the bad outweighed the good with both of the main ones.

Victoria

Where to start, where to start. She just annoyed me to no end, her attitude, the way she would snap at people, her overall personality, ugh. Not to mention she would overreact for everything. Every fight was because she blew things out of proportion, it was annoying and I honestly wanted her to end up alone. I get she was screwed over but she would just blow up at the simplest things, I did not care for her not one bit.

Jared

My problem with Jared is this, he had no backbone. Victoria would snap at his ass and was a rude as shit and he still kept coming around. uhhh, say whaa? It's like he loved getting crapped on, he was sweet at times but way too mushy and love struck for my liking. Proposing after a few months? Are you serious? I can't, he was a man one second and a pussy whipped idiot the next. It was frustrating and unappealing, I grew to pity his character more than anything. Fail all around

In sum, if you like love stories with over dramatic theatrics, shallow over zealous characters and sappy endings, then enjoy.

”Forgiveness will allow you to leave room for those that will love you.”

Happenstance is M.J. Abraham's debut novel about Victoria Rivera a sweet, sportsy, Cuban-American who has just finalized her divorce and has moved to Orlando to start over. Victoria tries the causal dating thing which doesn’t really work out well but along the way, by happenstance she meets veterinarian Dr. Jared Owens.

By learning to let go of her past and embracing her future, Victoria works through a traumatic event with the love and support of Jared. Jared was a great character. He was charming and no nonsense. He was completely invested in Victoria from the get go. Who doesn’t love a guy who buys you amazing shoes? There were some hot scenes (I loved Ivana) and some cute scenes, Jared’s funny t-shirts!!

Things don’t go smoothly for the couple they find some snags in the road(Lisa) but I loved how Victoria put it out there for Jared.

”Baby? I ask.
“Yeah?”
I make sure he is looking straight at me when I say,
“I don’t talk to my ex…get rid of yours.”

Overall, this is a short read which gives the reader insight to both Victoria and Jared’s through alternating povs. Victoria was brave enough to love again and Jared was smart enough not to let go.

I would like to thank M.J. Abraham’s for giving me the opportunity to meet Victoria and Jared!

This story that has everything you want in a book: HOT sex, humor, drama, love.

The MC (Victoria) has a hard time letting her guard down (I get it). She doesn't want to get hurt (I get it). She pushes away the hot, swoon-worthy guy she meets that would do anything for her ( I get it ... lol). I found myself shaking my head at a lot of the things she did/said, but my heart hurt for her because of the things that she had to go through. I loved Jared with his funny T-shirts, huge heart and charming personality.

Overall, it's a very cute & light read. One of those books that you pick up when you don't want your mind f*d.

I really really enjoyed this book. The events that took place were very realistic in my opinion. It is always interesting for me when I discover new authors and see what works for some but might not work for others. Well in reading Happenstance I fell in love with the characters, Victoria, her grandmother Abu, her brother Andres, her best friend Maggie but especially Dr. Owens aka Jared.

The story begins with Victoria who never thought she would find herself divorced at the young age of 25. She decides to move, gets a new teaching job, finds a new place to live and basically starts a new life for herself and away from her past. Her trust has been broken as well as her heart, due to her ex-husband, Eric's infidelity. So when something unfortunate happens and she hits a little dog with her car, she finds herself taking him to a local vet. It is there where she will meet Dr. Owens (Jared) and there is an immediate attraction.

After a brief encounter which ultimately turns into a few dates thereafter, Victoria finds herself questioning everything and guarding her heart. She is lonely and trying to enjoy her time with Jared but she doesn't want to admit that what they share is nothing more than casual. Her best friend, Maggie decides to set her up on a date with Steven, a banker. Now Victoria finds herself attracted to both men but will soon learn that it is Jared she is most attracted to and wanting to spend her time with. A few unpleasant and unhappy things take place but Jared is so sweet, patient and most of all understanding. I just don't think there was anything I didn't like about him. I highly recommend this book. It is a short, sweet read and my only complaint was that it was too short. I think there was a lot of underlying things one could learn from this story and that for me is something I thoroughly enjoy.

I laughed, I got caught up in the heat of the passionate moments between Jared and Victoria, I cried and then I smiled. I loved the T-shirts, when Jared called her V and the banter between the two of them. It worked for me and I hope it works for you. This is Ms. Abraham's first book and I think she did a fantastic job. I look forward to her others. I was given an ARC of this book, from the author, for an honest review.

All my reviews are spoiler free! It is my hope and goal that they will interest and encourage you to read the book. They are my opinions however and what may be awesome and work for me may not work for you!

HAPPENSTANCE: the fact that something good happens because of certain circumstances although it happened coincidentally, accidentally, unintended or by chance.

Nothing at all is guaranteed. Circumstances, shit, stuffs and life happen.
Victoria is off to start over in a new place - after finding and seeing her husband cheating - for a new life. But never did she expect to run over into a puppy rush him into the vet and collide with the handsome and sexy Dr. Owens.

Happenstance is honestly an easy, breezy and smooth read. In its shortness, the story tackles every side that needs to be known and it’s just plainly good and great. The story has different aspects from love, family and traumatic experiences and each one of those are given enough presence in the story. One doesn’t overbear with the other. Each of these aspects is well tackled and given attention to in the story. It was well-written and the alternating POV's gives us a better understanding between the two characters.

The characters are well-casted.
Jared Owens (though he's really too good to be true but since were in fiction-landia I'll continue with it) is one determined guy. He's determined in helping people and animals and getting what he wanted. But he has this weird contradicting personality that makes me scratch my head - one time he's the nice thoughtful and trustful guy and suddenly at one moment he tends to be overprotective and possessive. Oh, but one thing I really really really like about him is his cool collection of statement shirts! I want to snag each one hilarious shirt that he wears. haha.

Victoria is living in her own way trying to cope things up after her divorce but since then she became this cautious lady at the same time super stubborn. Victoria also have her own collection but unlike Jared her collection are shoes and shoes and shoes and her philosophy that "With the right shoes, women can conquer the world" is really suiting to her. As I'm reading this, I was under the impression that Victoria is the type of lady that doesn’t want to be told what to do but when Jared came and cracks her walls, she starts to listen to him and the good thing on Jared's part is that he doesn’t act as the dominant guy over this He understand where Victoria is coming from, he takes things slowly. She's too stubborn for her own good and Jared is also too stubborn to let her go and that’s why they really do compliment one another.

Happenstance is not only about those lovey-dovey stuffs between Jared and Victoria. There is a very touchy subject - a traumatic experience that Victoria experienced first hand (and I'm not talking about her divorce). That sad event opens up our mind to what to do if such things happen and how to take action to it and know your rights. It’s indeed heavy but the good thing is that that issue didn’t overbear the other aspects of the story.

I really can’t say anything negative about it but maybe a little bit more of angst could be put into the story because it feels like it was still on its comfort zone and just too good to true and maybe I'm just craving for a little more of something but despite that it was still good. It was well written, characters are good and the story is very likeable as it is This is the author's debut novel and I'm surely looking forward for more from her. :)

Let me explain...

Every time I give a book less than 3~stars it hurts. I feel like I'm literally filling a pillowcase with dead batteries and hitting the author in the face....repeatedly. I know the work that goes into writing a book and I respect anyone with the courage to put their work out there, but Happenstance just wasn't for me.

My feelings about this book are neither black or white. In fact, Happenstance lives somewhere in the median. It wasn't good, it wasn't bad. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. I never quite found the pulse. There was just something missing.

Now Jared I loved, but Victoria made me want to take that battery filled pillowcase and hit myself in the face. She bathed herself in every female stereotype that drives me insane. Everything just seemed so cliché.

The plot read like pieces of a puzzle that just didn't fit. I saw aspects from several other books pulled together to form one plot and it lost fluency. I also expected more to come from the Steven situation. It created a dramatic twist that could have helped enrich the plot, but the resolution of that entire situation just fell flat.

I feel like the story had a lot of potential that wasn't developed so it never really peaked. With so many books out there, reading can get monotonous. Good books get overshadowed because they don't bring anything new to the table. They bring a formula we see time and time again. I think M.J. Abraham has potential because this book was not badly written, but her story just wasn't for me.

READ ON!

I enjoyed most of this book. Victoria was a great girl. She happened by fate to walk into Jared's office. He is immediately taken with her. She puts up a good fight. I mean her ex cheated on her she is standoffish. The stuff with Lisa is hilarious. I love the scene when Lisa comes out of his house acting like they're together and Victoria slaps her, epic. One thing that bugged me was how easy Victoria was able to walk away. When things happened with Lisa she walked away instead of talking it thru, although I get why she doesn't want to be made a fool again. Jared was head over heels for her from the start. It was a very cute romance book. Not too much drama. Both MC were very likable. I loved her best friend Maggie!

Love is a gamble and sometimes it hurts, but whether you win or lose being in love is a beautiful thing

I really wanted to like Happenstance, I thought the summary/blurb was interesting, the cover was cute and who doesn’t like a vet doctor… BUT at lass, it just didn’t quite work out.

Happenstance felt like it was smashing too many plots into one story… a flop in my opinion

Victoria is divorced because her ex-husband cheated on her, so she is guarded. Jared is a vet and meets Victoria when she brings in a stray she hits with her car. Jared purses Victoria but Victoria is pretty jaded because of her ex.

So the blub isn’t much, but it holds so many possibilities right? I was under the impressing I was reading a light-hearted book and I wasn’t expecting anything grand, but I also didn’t want a subpar reading either. Where do I even begin?

Victoria was ridiculous! I understand guarded characters, but why would she not want to be with Jared when he has been everything, but perfect and then date Steven at the same time?! It didn’t make sense or even girl sense. I had serious issues with Victoria and she kept pissing me off.

Let’s talk about that one part of the book and we all know what I am talking about. When I read what happened, I had to pause and think to myself “wtf did I just read? I thought this was a light hearted book?!” I had no idea why that chapter was written, so the relationship should shift, but really? Suffice it to say, I felt like Abraham had a check list of what make a juicy story and another box was checked off. I didn’t think that part was necessary.

The first 30% of book is held in August and I really didn’t understand the “time-line”, it just felt off. And then, towards the middle-end the time-line was moving too fast and I couldn’t really see how Jared and Victoria progressing, it just wasn’t working for me. The climatic-ending was just…. I don’t know what to say… I was rolling my eyes and yes I’ll admit! I finally started to skim!!! I think I was over the whole thing.

Then the chapter before the epilogue…. What do I even say to that? It was like throwing a Band-Aid against a problem. It was if there were so many problems in Happenstance the best solution was just to fix it all in one paragraph.

I know my rant is long and honestly I could have given a 2.5 or 3 star rating, but I feel like 3.5 was justified because there was so much potential. It could have been a good read, I mean Jared’s character was spot on and I enjoyed him, but editing is so important. Overall, It was a nice try and I won’t write Abraham off just yet.

Happenstance is M.J. Abraham's debut novel and she did a wonderful job with this story.

Victoria has just signed her divorce papers and is ready to move on from the man who broke her heart. She decides to pack her bags and move away from her family and leave behind the life. She has a great new apartment, a new teaching job and will be moving by her best friend. The last thing she wants is to find a man and fall in love. After being betrayed by the one man she thought she would spend her life with, she is afraid to put herself and her heart out there again. Until she meets Jared Owens.

Jared Owens is a hot sexy veterinarian, who is sweet, funny, and did I mention sexy? I think the best word to describe Jared is "perfect." He is what every woman wants, and he will make you swoon. And his funny t-shirts just made him that much more adorable. He meets Victoria when she brings a stray dog into his practice. He is completely taken by her the first time he sees her. All though Victoria is not looking for a guy she cannot get Dr. Owens out of her mind. Her friend convinces her to move on and date casually and give Jared a chance, which she agrees to do.

Victoria definitely has her guard up in the beginning and I have to admit that at times her decisions frustrated me. She had an amazing, funny sexy man who loved her and wanted to make her happy but she seemed to push him away. As much as she knew what she was feeling for him she was afraid that by admitting her feelings she would get hurt. I completely understand her fears and I think that is one reason why many woman can relate to her. She was a very likeable character who was just trying to protect her heart. I loved Victoria and Jared together, they were hot, and sweet and just perfect together. They had a flirty relationship that I loved. Jared loved her and wanted to protect her and make her happy. But what will happen when a past love comes into play and insecurities, fears and trust issues begin to surface again. Will Victoria finally get her happily ever after?

. Abraham did a great job with this story and connecting the characters to the reader. Happenstance was filled with all the emotions I love in a book. It will make you smile and laugh out loud. It had just the right amount of drama and angst, it will break your heart and hand it back to you healed. It was a great ending to a wonderful story. Great job by M.J. Abraham and I cannot wait for everyone to read Jared and Victoria's story.

I happen to really like this book. It just touches on a lot of emotions, and definitely a lot of issues as well. Don't get me wrong, this can be a feel-good, somewhat light book and you'll feel rather giddy throughout most of it. But then again, it does bring upon *SPOILER ALERT* the issue of cheating scumbag ex's, clingy psycho ex's, and sleazy rapists. I just about wanted to jump in the book and beat the crap out of said ex gf and rip out the balls of said rapist.

But what I loved about the story were the amazing characters. Victoria was strong, determined, and even though she has her fair share of not-so-smart decisions, you can't help but love her. After all, there's a reason for all her cautiousness and reservations. Jared, on the other hand, was such an amazing guy. He made me crazy about him and all his awesomeness, sweetness, and thoughtfulness. And come on, let's face it... His sexiness and hotness as well! What a complete package that guy; you couldn't ask for more.

This book may be a pretty short read, and I was able to finish it within a day, but it certainly didn't lack anything. I was happy with the whole story; with how it ended and everything. Each scene mattered, and I never found myself getting dragged to read the chapters. Nothing was rushed, and I truly felt as if I read a 300+ page book instead of a 100+. Great read, indeed!

I loved the cover! Liked the title. Loved that the hero was a DVM. That's about it.

So I bought this book for two reasons: The cover was adorable & I LOVE a man who loves animals.

That is the extent of positives I can give on this one. It's kind of like when a movie puts all the good parts it its trailer. When you see the movie you discover the trailer was the best part of the experience. For me that is the case with this book.

I did NOT care for the "heroine". I thought she was whinny, a quick temper trigger and unworthy of the love that Jared gave her unconditionally.

I found the scenes from Sex and the City movie a bit transparent & annoying. [spoiler] He built her the perfect closet and proposes with the ultimate couture shoe. I thought the nonchalant reaction by the victim of the rape was unrealistic. Poor Lucky was barely mentioned in the story after he was at the vets office. I didn't care for the large chunks of time that would be deleted between chapters or months with no warning that you're not continuing your thought line from the end of the previous page.

Ok, so did I enjoy it? Not even a little bit.

Would I recommend it to anyone? For sure, I would not.

Was it worth the price I paid? Unequivocally not.

Sorry, I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, but I enjoy buying & reading uninspiring books even less.

--

This is an honest review. You've been warned.

My first with this author and this book didn't reach to my expectation. Fortunately, I bummed only a bit.

What I liked
1. Easy, light read.
2. Jared and Vic met because of Lucky, a dog.
3. Some heartwarming scenes.
4. Alternative POVs although it was Vic's the most.
5. The guy's a vet. I love men who help and love animals. It was the main reason I grabbed this book.

What I disliked
1. I loved Victoria at the beginning but she became annoying as the story went.
2. Seriously, those dramatic fights were unnecessary. They were childish and unmatured. Beyond stupid, if I must say.
3. I didn't know how Victoria could move on that fast after her recent divorce is beyond me.
4. Present freaking tense. Oh why?

......

Great title. Great blurb. But not-so-great story. That's all!

Read on your own peril.

Not to impressed with this story. In fact, I found Victoria to be quite immature at times. And there was absolutely no heat or chemistry between Victoria and Jared. There was an issue I had a problem with. For someone who's just been divorced, and has declared to never let any man into her heart, I can't understand how she can even think of dating right away. It's only been four months and Victoria is already dating looking for her possible new love. What the hell? I would think she'd want to take a break from men for a little longer. When I think about it, I'm surprised I actually read the whole book.

Could'nt finish it.. had potential to be a good story.. a couple of times I felt really good about it but then it started falling flat fast and after I rolled my eyes for the 10th time by 30% I figured I'd not force myself through it any further. Plus every chapter had the month at the top.. and it was always August except for the first month.. I did not need to be reminded for 5 chapters that it was August. That annoyed me. I won't rate it since I can't give it an honest review without finishing it.

Holy Hotness!!! Jared is my new book boyfriend! <3

I've read this book twice & I've fallen for him both times! I'm about to go searching for a stray & run to the nearest vet with the hope that I'll get as lucky as Victoria!!! :-)

Loved the book- it's funny & sweet. There a few moments that made me cringe & hurt my heart, but the love story (& JARED) made it all better!

I totally recommend curling up with this book- it's a story you'll totally enjoy & characters you'll love!!!

"Circumstances shouldn’t always set your happiness, sometimes you have to look within your heart. Love Conquers All."

The story is written mainly from the point of view of Victoria, with a few chapters from Jared thrown in for good measure. I found this a nice added extra, it's not overdone. MJ Abraham uses it at some of the most poignant points in the story and it gives us a better understanding and appreciation of the relationships between the characters.

Victoria is just recently divorced, after walking in on her then husband having sex with another woman. She moves away from her home town in Miami, leaving behind her brother Andres and her grandmother whom she calls Abu (Abuela, Spanish for grandmother). She’s moving to Orlando, in hopes that it makes it easier to move on, despite the very wise words of Abu:
"You might have put a few miles away from home, but your heart will always be with you. Forgiveness will allow you to leave room for those that will love you.”

Now there is a strong, loving and very wise woman, whom we would all be lucky to call 'grandmother'.

Victoria is a guarded, which is natural given her circumstances, and strong-willed woman who despite her past decides to dust herself off and grabs life by the horns. She gets a lot of her strength and motivation to persevere from her Abu, who raised her and her brother, Andres. She has learned to be careful with her heart and with whom she invests her time in. She has faught to keep going, faught for herself and won, in turn becoming a better and stronger person because of it.
“It says: Alis volat propriss. It’s Latin, it means: ‘She flies with her own wings’.”

On her first day in Orlando, she is on her way to meet her friend Maggie, but fate intervenes. She accidently hits a dog (aptly named Lucky) and feeling bad for the poor thing, she brings him to the nearest veterinary clinic- Blue Lakes Animal Clinic.

*Paging Dr. Jared Owens*
Let me begin by screaming saying … JARED, JARED, JARED!! He is caring, loving and he understands Victoria and what she needs. OK he’s also a little possessive but not in an overbearing way! He’s tall, deep hazel eyes that you just want to melt in, a body to die for and he’s a vet! I mean he is the whole package. I loved that there is a funny side to him, that he doesn’t take himself too seriously. Case in point, his awesome t-shirt collection: “Zombies love a girl with brain”, “I’d hit that”, “Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animal”, just some of my personal favs!Jared has also rekindled my love of Peanut M&Ms ;) I may have gotten a little side tracked there, when you get your hands on the book, I’m sure you’ll understand and forgive the tangent!

This fortuitous bumping into each other gives rise to an immediate attaction for both of them. It is electric and all consuming! Though she has these primal feelings towards Dr. Owens, there is one thing holding her back... herself!

With this strength (which at times is a front to protect herself) Victoria possesses, there is also her jovial loving side, which Jared slowly tries to uncover. From here, Victoria's life takes a few surprise twists and turns; with dating, unexpected difficult situations to deal with and love trying to find its way into Victoria's guarded heart.

Does she get that happy ever after she thought she had before? Can she learn to trust again? Is Jared the knight in shining armour he appears to be or does he have some secrets of his own? If you want the anwersthen get your hands on this lovely book and take the journey with Victoria and Jared for yourself.

It’s a great story of love conquering all; love getting us through the hard times and with that love appreciating the good in our lives and in those around us. MJ Abraham captures the themes of love, pain and hope effortlessly with her characters. She gives her characters the depth and capabilities to deal with what comes their way. She allows their journey to unfold naturally, leaving you helpless but to continue reading to the end.

To top it all off, MJ Abraham makes use of what I can only describe as one of my all-time favourite poems by E.E.Cummins:
“I fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet)

I want no world (for beautiful, you are my world, my true)

And it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant

And whatever a sun will always sing is you

…I carry your heart (I carry it in my heart)”

I give Happenstance 4 high-heeled glittering stars and eagerly await book two in this endeering series, A Second Chance, by MJ Abraham. It is a fantastic debut novel from an author we will definitely be hearing a lot more of in the future! I leave you with this final quote to ponder...
Love is a gamble and sometimes it hurts, but whether you win or lose being in love is a beautiful thing.

Okay, okay! I’ll admit it, but you better not judge me. I totally picked Happenstance up based on the cover. *sigh* I know, I know… I’ll be honest, I didn’t know what to expect and in turn didn’t expect much. I figured it would be a quick, fun, predictable read. Boy was I wrong! M. J. Abraham packed a punch with her debut novel.

Starting over is never easy. Victoria Rivera knows this first hand. After divorcing her husband of two years because he couldn’t keep it in his pants, Victoria has moved 200 miles away from home to start a new life. With a new apartment, new job and her best friend Maggi at her side life could possibly pass as bearable.

“Listen, I know you’re trying to start over, but remember you can never move forward if you don’t let go of your past. You might have put a few miles away from home, but your heart will always be with you. Forgiveness will allow you to leave room for those that will love you.”

Her life changed forever the day she backed her car into a poor defenseless little dog. Victoria couldn’t leave him there to suffer so she did what any good hearted person would. She brought the little guy to the nearest vet. And that’s when she met him, Dr. Jared Owens. He was everything she wanted, but naturally after being burned by her ex-husband she was skeptical to give any man a part of her heart let alone the whole thing.

“Circumstances shouldn’t always set your happiness, sometimes you have to look within your heart. Love Conquers All.”

Their relationship takes place over many months with several complications and misunderstandings throw in the mix. The story is mostly told from Victoria’s POV, but we do get a chapter here and there from Jared’s POV. Victoria is determined to keep things casual. Jared on the other hand knows that he’s found exactly what he’s been looking for. Can their relationship survive the twists and turns of life? Will Victoria be able to trust another man with her heart? Things happen for a reason. People are put in your path when you least expect it. And looking back, sometimes it’s easy to see that they were exactly what you needed, when you needed it.

“The past has taught me that nothing is guaranteed and sometimes things hurt but that’s ok because I’m human and I feel and I love. Feeling is part of living and living is a beautiful thing.”

I absolutely, positively loved this book. It was sweet and heartwarming, but in the same breath it dealt with some pretty serious topics such as death, rape, alcoholism and infidelity. M. J. Abraham has a way of writing that makes you feel exactly what her characters are feeling. To suffer along with them in their sadness and to laugh and celebrate in their love and joy. I shed my fair share of tears, laughed aloud at the funny parts and thoroughly enjoyed each relationship. I’m eagerly awaiting the next book in this series!

Brittany and Abby's review for www.fictionandfashion.com

Twenty-five is suppose to be an amazing age. For Victoria not so much. Newly divorced and on her own, she is re-learning what it's like to truly be alone. All three of us have passed our quarter life stage {Brittany is currently on quarter-life crisis #2, but she was slightly early and late to the party with both of those...haha} The thing we liked about Victoria so much was that she was...real. We felt for her. And honestly, when hottie Jared came around, we couldn't have been more happy. Plus, the girl loved shoes...how could you not love her?!

“Shoes are life.” I smile. “When I’m rich, I will have a whole closet just for shoes.”

“Is that your main goal on your bucket list? A closet of shoes?” He teases.

“In part, I need at least one of those shoes to be Christian Louboutin.”

Now let's talk about Jared. Abby was swooning over him being a hot vet, Brittany loved him for his zombie tees. This boy just couldn't do anything wrong. Seriously. We love him. We don't want to give anything away, but Brittany's husband certainly got an evil eye when she read the end of the book. This coming from a girl who's 3rd bedroom of her house is a closet, but she still doesn't have a famous Frenchmen in her closet. :)

"Circumstances shouldn’t always set your happiness, sometimes you have to look within your heart. Love Conquers All. "

The plot of Happenstance was light and easy to read. This would be a great book to read coming off something deep, or on a beach. Because let's face it, in February, you are either dreaming about the beach or on the beach on vacation and if you are on vacation...screw you. :P JK! (I guess...) This is a sweet coming of age story that is about second chances, love, and forgiveness and we all need a little more of those things in our life.

"Its dinner time and all I have to offer you are Peanut M&M's. I usually don't share those."

So go, read Happenstance. We definitely will be looking forward to what Ms. Abraham has up her sleeve next.

Happenstance was a quick easy story to read. However, it pains me to say that Happenstance just wasn’t for me.

It was well written and had a lot of emotion and I loved the second chance message in it.

I do not want to turn anyone off reading this story as everyone should judge for themselves, however I have to give an honest review on why this one didn’t work for me.

This story is about Victoria a 20 something newly divorced girl who is starting to re build her life after catching her husband cheating on her.

Victoria vows never to find herself in that situation again and to live for her not someone else.

Her friend finds her a job at the same school, teaching first graders and Victoria settles down in a new flat and gets ready to start her new life, excited about her career which her ex-husband halted.

Unfortunately an accident happens when Victoria runs over a dog which she immediately takes to the nearest vet this is where she meets the gorgeous Jared. There is an instant attraction between them and they pretty much start dating straight away though Victoria has her own definition of their relationship as opposed to Jared.

Whilst immediately jumping into a “relationship” with Jared she also goes on a date with a guy her friend found for her on a singles dating website. This date unfortunately turns into a horrific event for Victoria and what ensues between Jared and Victoria is one confusing and emotional ride.

I have to say I didn’t connect with Victoria at all. I didn’t understand her actions, her reactions nor her ways of thinking. She blew hot and cold. I had so many issues with her and the subsequent instant romance between her and Jared that I just couldn’t get into the story as much as I wanted to. Unfortunately this is the reason for my low rating.

From Facebook review:

Its already pass 2 in the morning on the lovely Saturday and just finished 'Happenstance by MJ Abraham', I'm glad to share to ya'all that this book is so easy, breezy and beautiful to read. Of course there are moments that she really gotten on my skin due to her stubbornness. But gladly at the end she find her way back.

Victoria experienced a cheating husband that leads them to divorced at the age of 25. She moved a state to forget and start living fresh. The dog named lucky is one hell a cupid angel help Jared and Victoria to meet.

One thing that's really scares me was when she was rape. Totally unprepared on that part, due to her stubbornness and to much drink that leads to horrible night. Rape is a serious crime sadly happens every freaking moment. In this book gives you knowledge what you should do if that happens. You should not keep it to yourself because of being ashamed of that happen, but instead you should be brave and report it into the police.

By doing so you can help other people to be brave and not scared shit to what people will think about you. When you say's 'NO' to that person but still insist against your will to shove their horny dick into you its called RAPE ladies remember that.

'Happenstance' its a all about giving a second chance in LOVE, in LIFE and FIGHT for your RIGHTSl

HAPPENSTANCE: the fact that something good happens because of certain circumstances although it happened coincidentally, accidentally, unintended or by chance.

5 HOT AND SWEET STARS. This was an enjoyable quick read. I love Jared and Victoria's romance.

It is honestly an easy, breezy and smooth read. Although I do want more from Jared's side but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I can't help but fall in love with all the characters. I cried when V's grandmother died, I don't actually know why but the author managed to make me so which is actually good but I did get touched from the love of family shown in the story. And the issue of rape was shown. Although it wasn't thoroughly elabotared, it was a great message for every reader out there that we should know how to fight it and never allow anyone to be violated.

I can't wait for the next one. I hope its about Andres! :)

After two years of marriage Victoria catches her husband cheating on her, six months later she finds herself divorced and starting over. To give herself a fresh start she moves three hours away from her family and ex husband forcing herself to stand on her own, she moves to Orlando near her best friend Maggie, where she finally begins her career as teacher (after she got married she became a stay at home wife) the last thing she was looking for was a relationship, but after meeting the very cute, very single vet Dr Owens, things start to change despite the walls of steel she's built up around her. Jared realizes he has his work cut out for him to show Victoria not all men are like her ex husband and he's up for the challenge. I enjoyed the the smart ass banter between the two of them just as much as I enjoyed the sweet romantics moments as well. I give the sex between the two of them 2 thumbs up! If you're in the mood for a lighthearted, fun, read try Happenstance; I give it 3.75 stars!

I really enjoyed this book . It was cute, funny, sexy with a little drama. After reading I got a craving for rice, huevo frito and platanito. Lol. Thank you M.J. For putting a little of our Cuban culture in there. Can't wait to read more from you!
