This book wasn't terrible, but I have to say that I would be happy to see Mark Antonius Richfield take a hike off a bridge...

There was only one thing I didn't like in this book - Mark Antonius Richfield. I liked Adam in For Love and Money and I knew Jack from several other books and I really wanted to see their story, not some unresolved issues between Jack and Mark! And to my utter dismay I discovered that in Action series they all - Jack, Adam, Steve and Mark - would be together in some sort of poly-relationship or something :/ Jesus Christ, I so wanted Jack to grow some balls and get over Mark :/

Has a happy ending, but I found the whole situation a little sad

Warning: This review might contain what some people consider SPOILERS.

Rating: 6/10

PROS:
- Two characters who are out and not afraid to admit it. No “I like him but am not sure whether he’s interested in guys” or “we can’t be together because I’m afraid to admit I like you” (not that I mind reading about those issues, but it’s nice to encounter out and proud guys on occasion).
- Some refreshingly frank conversations, particularly as concern sex and the characters’ feelings about each other and other people.
- The female characters who work with Jack are sweet and supportive.
- Steve’s brief rundown on gun safety with Adam is well done. I must admit, I doubted that a California girl would manage to discuss firearms at all accurately, but Hauser proved me wrong. (However, Jack gets Adam a permit to carry the gun in a few weeks, tops. THAT made me raise an eyebrow a bit.)

CONS:
- The whole Adam-Jack-Mark-Steve dynamic is confusing and annoying. First, Mark is whiny and pushy throughout much of the book and Jack is simply a jerk in return the majority of the time. (What I find most interesting about this is that when I read Capital Games, I found JACK whiny and annoying; I think Hauser struggles with writing sympathetic secondary characters, regardless of whether she’s fleshed them out at all previously.) Second, Mark’s explanation of why he never pursued Jack didn’t fly very well with me. And third, Jack’s attitude toward Adam seems unfair: at one point, while Jack is still sort of pining away for Mark, “Jack want[s] to move away. Maybe leave the country,” and then two pages later, he asks Mark whether he “want[s] to be Mrs. Larsen” (Jack’s last name).
- Compounding the complex relationship issues with the four guys is that Adam (poor Adam) falls so fast and so hard for Jack. He calls him “baby” about two days after they first meet.

Overall comments: I didn’t find the two leads in this book as annoying as I did the two leads in Capital Games. But the relationships are intertwined, complex, and a little sad. So if you’re looking for light-hearted romantic comedy, you might pass over this one and Capital Games and go for one of Hauser’s Men in Motion books instead.

Jack is still in love with his best friend Mark, even though Mark is in a committed relationship with Steve, so he doesn't really want a new love interest in his life.
Then in walks Adam, he is in need of a lawyer and there is an attraction between Adam and Jack, but Mark seems to have a lot of trouble letting Jack move on without him.
Adam's business partner OS also causing all kinds of trouble.
I liked this story and it held my in interest , but I do believe Steve and Adam are up for sainthood, dealing with a very unhealthy relationship between Mark and Jack, although at the end that gets better.

No surprises or tension leading to the initial meeting between the two men. I need that to create the sexual chemistry so this one's a miss for me. The synopsis made me expect there to be tons of sexual tension but for some reason the dialog and interaction was missing all that when there were so many opportunities for some biting wit, sarcasm and sexy banter.

The good
-I enjoyed Adam and Jack outside of the points below, but the points below try to drag this down. I'd give the good a 3ish star, but pile everything else on and it earns a 1.

The bad
-The sex was either weird but interesting (jacking off on someone and then basically rolling around on them like a dog with a weird smell) or...mechanical and not interesting. The latter feels like the author pulls out a cookie cutter and stamps out basically the same scene with new names.
-The part of the plot that basically amounted to "Nice shoes! Wanna fuck?" This was not a book that began particularly full of heat of feel of romance.
-If you've read a Hauser book you probably come prepared for the "I love you" that seems to spring out from behind a bush, and not an organic living bush, but some stage prop in a B movie. Not insta-lovey enough to suspend disbelief and not slow burn enough to make it interesting.

The ugly

-I didn't think I could dislike Mark more than I did, but I was wrong. I know there are books that try and explain him, but hard pass. I didn't like him when he met Steve in Capital Games where he was a flip flopping fence riding whiner. I didn't like him here as the clingy friend who didn't want to be more than friends but doesn't want Jack to have someone else either. Why does everybody fall for Mark? Such a terrible waste of words he is written to be.

This is almost a "welcome back friends" book. It gathers characters from a bit of older books, as primary characters or little cameo appearances.

Adam, Ewan's Hollywood agent from "For Love and Money, the same man who made a move on Jason, Ewan's lover, is now in big trouble: his business partner is on trial for sexual harassment and he's clearly guilty, since it's the same thing he made on Ewan, and the reason why the guy chose to leave Hollywood and return back in England. Before the troubles carry away also him, Adam asks help to a good lawyer, Jack.

Jack is Mark's friend and rejected wanna-be lover from "Capital Games". He is still mourning on the fact that Mark moved with Steve, and he seems unable to free him from the intrusive figure. But when Jack sees Adam, he realizes that maybe he can't forget Mark, but he can move on: Adam is not as beautiful as Mark, but he is a good man and a funny lover.

Both Adam than Jack were positive characters in the previous books and they deserve an own book. "When Adam met Jack" is a collective book, one of that books usually the authors write after a long series to collect all the dearer characters and gift their reader with a rest and relax reading, enjoying the familiar faces and spying on the life of their favorite characters. And so here we have a good insight in Mark and Steve from "Capital Games", and cameo appearance of Ewan from "For Love and Money", Jennifer Bernstein from "Secrets and Misdemeanors", Angel Loveday from "Love you, Loveday" (hope to haven't forget someone).

Jack is a big boy with a self-consciousness issue. He was in love with Mark from so long that he has idealized the man and probably he is persuaded that, if Mark chose someone other, is because he is not enough worthy. The relationship with Adam is a strenght tonic, since the man he so deeply impressed and in awe of Jack, that he is a boost for his ego. Adam is a quite and nice character. Probably not so sparkly and impressing as Mark or Jack, but with an aurea of his own. He is a very good man.

"When Adam met Jack" is a book which slows smoothly and fast, you arrive at the end without realize that you have read almost 200 pages in a blurry to now how it ends.

Contemporary m/m romance with an attorney Jack Larsen and star agent Adam Lewis who are both in trouble so they help each other find a new life. Adam is implicated in a sexual abuse case on his boss who is a star agent and would make his male clients do sexual acts if they wanted acting or modeling contracts so we start this story with Adam going to Jack to represent him in the coming case. Jack is attracted to Adam, but only after he believes that he is innocent in the case. Jack has a lot of baggage from being in love with his best friend for the past twenty years as seen in Capital Games. It is sweet to watch the two men trust and depend on each other and we get to see Steve and Mark from Capital Games quite a few times. I almost started to hate Mark in this book because he is a total stalker jerk, until you understand how dependent he is with his childhood best friend Jack. Lots of M/M sexy time that is quite sweet and loving.

I didn't realize this book had the same characters as Capital Games until I got into the story a little ways. I really liked knowing more of what happened to Jack, he was so in love with Mark and seemed like a nice guy so it was good to see him get his happily ever after. When he first meets Adam, its because Adam is in trouble with his business partner and needs legal advice. Adam is immediately attracted to Jack, but Jack is hesitant. He doenst want to get burned once again. I liked how they start off as two strangers in a business relationship that soon develops into friendship. Adam is sort of flirty, and just fun. He's very open and honest which takes Jack by surprise. I liked how Mark and Steve from Capital Games are in the story and by the end they're all friends. I didn't understand why Mark was written more flamboyant than he was in Capital Games, I took his character to be more cocky than flamboyant. So it seemed like a random character change to me. Overall its a good read.

I WANT ADAM TO BE HAPPY, BUT I DON'T KNOW IF JACK IS THE ONE TO MAKE HIM HAPPY.
I HAVEN'T READ THE OTHER BOOKS IN THIS SERIES I GUESS IM GONNA HAVE TO. TO FIND OUT WHAT WILL
HAPPEN BETWEEN ADAM AND JACK.

I LOVE THIS BOOK BUT AT THE SAME TIME IT LEFT ME DOUBTING JACK'S LOVE FOR ADAM?
I KNOW JACK LOVES ADAM, BUT I DON'T THINK HE LOVES HIM AS MUCH AS ADAM LOVE JACK.
AND I DON'T SEE ANYTHING SPECIAL ABOUT MARK THAT APPARENTLY EVERYONE "LOVES" HIM.
SOONER OR LATER IT WILL GET IN BETWEEN ADAM AND JACK.
JACK'S OBSESSION WITH MARK.

Very generic. Not especially erotic or emotion-inducing. Standard run-of-the-mill m/m romance. Mediocre.
