Evie was pregnant and forced to give up the baby. But she can't just leave the child with strangers, especially when she thinks the baby is being neglected. With her boyfriend waiting in the truck, Evie snatches the baby and convinces him to drive her to Montreal where she plans to start a new life with her child. But when the baby won't eat and she and Justin argue, she ends up alone in a small town. As the baby becomes sicker, Evie must decide whether to admit her mistake and turn herself in, or to keep running.
This Story is about 15 year old Evie and her boyfriend Justin, who end up meeting at party and 1 thing leads to another and Evie ends up getting pregnant.
Evie just lives with her father ever since her mother had passed away, so when she misses her period she tells her dad, who is disappointed, he helps to support Evie during her pregnancy, but both Justin parents and Evie`s father agree that because they are both so young it would be best for Evie to put the baby up for adoption. Evie has a little girl and they name her Grace, but the family that Brianna goes to renames her Grace.
Evie has a hard time accepting that Brianna belongs with anyone besides her and Justin, so she talks Justin into kidnapping her and head to Montreal. Justin thinks that it is a crazy idea but goes along with it anyways because he loves Evie. They manage to sneak in and kidnap Brianna from her new parents and head on their way, but it doesn`t take long before for things start to sprial down. Neither one of them have any real experience with babies so when Brianna does a lot of crying and needs help this frustrates Justin a lot. He keeps telling Evie that she has a home and parents that know what to do, she should go home. This upsets Evie and she tells him that she belongs with them.
While on the road heading to Montreal, Justin tells Evie that they need to stop for gas. When they stop Justin fills the tank and goes to pay. Evie watches him while he is paying and she can tell right away that he is telling someone to call for help. Seeings how she was only 15 she couldn`t drive yet, so she panics and takes the baby and runs out of sight. Evie is so upset that Justin would turn on her like that. Eve ends up running into a park and finds kids her age just hanging out like normal kids do. She misses that but she never wants Brianna to be taken away from her, so she brushes the thoughts of her life before she had Brianna.
Eve has to get out of the dark and she notices that Brianna has a really bad cough starting and she feels warm. As she continues walking she finds a diner and realizes just how hungry she is. The waitress at the diner is very curious and concerned when she sees Evie alone with Brianna. She does her best to talk with her and asks alot of questions. Eve needs to feed Brianna, but doesn`t understand why she`s not taking her bottle. The waitress is very calm and helpful to Eve and tells her that the bottle needs to be warmed up. Eve is very overwhelmed with all of this information that she doesn`t know about babies. She thought that her babysitters course told her everything that she needed to know. When Eve sees police come into the diner she thinks that the waitress has turned her in, she thinks now Brianna is going to be taken away and she can`t let that happen. As soon as she thinks they are coming towards her, they are actually just leaving the diner and she`s relieved. The waitress notices that Brianna is not well and suggests to Eve that she needs to be seen by a dr, and there is a walk-in just up the street. Eve knows that if she was to take Brianna there that she would be taken away from her for sure. She thinks that she can just take her to get her checked out when she gets to Montreal.
When Eve takes Brianna out in the cold to head over to the bus depot to head to Montreal, Brianna starts coughing really bad. Eve realizes right then that she has to do what is right for Brianna and go and get her checked out.
I really liked this book because it was really interesting when I started reading it. It was about Evie. She was young and pregnant and she was forced to put her baby up for adoption. I was really happy that her dad chose to give the baby up for adoption instead of having an abortion. I wanted to know why she had to give up her baby for adoption. I though that her dad would said that he would help her out because it was her daughter and the daughter mother have pass away. She was only 15 at the time and was scared. It was a great book and I would encourage a lot of girls to read this book because it tells you that even if you’re young and having kids, you are still a mother. You still have a responsibility to take care of your children. Just because you are young does not mean that you do not have feelings and emotions for your decisions. It also shows you that you have to have a lot of support around you if you are going through this situation. Evie’s boyfriend Justin wasn’t supportive to her when she was going through a tough time and I do not like people like that. If you cannot remember a book that is much longer, this is a good option. I read this book in one day and it was easy to read and kept my attention for the entire time. The only thing I didn’t like about the book was the ending. I don’t want to give away any spoilers though because I want people to read this book and find out for themselves what this book is about. I really liked how she wrote the book. She had a lot of background information. The point of view was first person. She used the word “I” a lot and I got to see the situation from her perspective and not somebody else’s point of view. She went step by step about what happened and that really helped me to be able to understand it.
Evie is fifteen years old, and already a mother. After she's forced to give her newborn up for adoption, she just can't come to grips with the reality of her situation. So she changes the reality. On the run, Evie hopes to start a new life with her reluctant boyfriend Justin and baby Grace/Brianna. She's sure that just being a mother will give her all the skills she needs to make it happen.
The perspective of this story feels true to its main character. Evie believes herself unstoppable and ultimately on the side of good, but from an outsider's view she's behaving recklessly and selfishly. Evie can't imagine life without her baby, and she doesn't see what all the fuss is about in caring for Grace/Brianna. She did read a book, after all. But one scene after another reveals just how unsuited she is to do this on her own, and the reader lives in fear of every mistake Evie makes proving fatal when it comes to such a fragile young being in such a harsh environment.
Saving Grace is short but powerful. The story shows the contrast between how right Evie is and how much she doesn't know about life, love, and babies. That sounds trite, but the actual story is very serious, and very moving. Even as Evie tries to reason away her actions, its not hard to feel sympathy for her. After all, this girl is barely more than a child herself, and she doesn't appear to have much of a support system. Darlene Ryan makes it easy to see why someone would do the wrong thing for the right reason, without making excuses for them.
Saving Grace follows 15 year old Evie and the events that take place after she kidnaps her daughter Grace/Brianna after being forced to give her up for adoption. Evie is rather naïve of the situation and thinks she will be able to raise the baby after having one babysitting class and from skimming a book at the library. It is clear as the night transpires that Evie is way in over her head and every new mistake is putting the baby at risk.
Saving Grace is a quick read that I would recommend for middle school/early high school readers. The story line is rather straight forward and easy to read. I would have liked to seen more character development and background into Evie's relationships. Especially on how her mother's death and how dealing with that grief may have led to some of her actions. On top of her father who only seems to tell Evie what to do instead of being there for her emotionally. Overall, I feel this book is an okay read and would probably be appreciated more from a younger audience.
Saving Grace is a book about a teen mom that had to give her baby to another family because her father tells her that it is the best decision for her. But after she is all grown up she doesn't like that she can have her baby and see her baby every day. So, she decides to the baby and moves so the cops won't catch her. I won't tell you then ending if you really want to know you just have to read the book. to me, this book was so good and its a really short book. Also, very easy to read. Once you read the back you just can't stop to know what happens. At first, I didn't want to read this book but know I'm glad I did because it is a really good book.
This book was wroten by Darlene Ryan Its an emotional book. When i started to read i was lost, confused because of the way its start. but at the end i loved it and i learned Alot of things in it. I loved the way Evie was so responsible for her baby as even she wasn't having alot of experience of rising her baby as were as she was still young but her patient and caring with loving her baby changed her life so quickly.
Nice and easy to read. Didn't really like the ending though. It's like the story stops in the middle of the ending. On the other end. I've already made a couple of possible endings myself. Love to do that.
Short story, about a young girl that gave her baby up for adoption (father actually made her), and she kidnaps her own baby back. The ending didn’t end the way I thought it would but still a good short read!
2.5 I get that this story was trying to portray the realities of taking care of a baby, but it lacks depth, context and resolution. It could have been so much better with just a little more.
I read this for my Spanish class, and that was the most ass ending ever. I found Evie absolutely unbearable, as well as her stupid, rat boyfriend, Justin. Appallingly bad, bro...
This book was a bit of a let down for me. It was short but a lot happened. Unfortunately, I feel like there was no real ending. What happened? Is Evie okay? Is the baby okay? I just wish that after reading the story there was a more solid ending for a reader to grasp onto.
the title of this book is saving grace. the author is darlene ryan. the cons/ challenges is evie is determine to take care her baby, even if she has to kidnapp somebody else baby this is special/unique is that its very interesting and good. pros/likes of this book is 5-5. the major character is evie . other significant characters in this story is Justin evies boyfriend and the baby named grace. The major events of this story is that Saving Grace is about a girl named Evie that is a teenage mother. Her mother’s dead and she wanted to be a mother to her baby.later her dad finds out that she is pregnant. so her dad made her put her baby up for adoption because he says he’s not going to let her ruin her life. She tells Justin the father of the baby that she just wants to check in on the baby but what she reallly wants is to kidnap her from the baby’s adoptive parents who named the baby grace.but when evie thinks that they aren't good parents ,so she takes the baby with her and renamed the baby from grace to brianna.later evie ask Justin for help to take care of brianna.evie ask Justin to take her to Montreal so that evie and her baby can live together.later they stop for gas at the gas station , but when Justin calls at a local phone booth. evie thinks that Justin betrayed her by calling the police. so evie escape with the baby . later they end up lost in the middle of nowhere. later evie finds a diner with a nice waitress named Leslie and Leslie helps her with everything from feeding the baby while evie eats her food. later when evie goes to Change grace diaper at the bathroom. she finds Leslie talking to a police officer about a missing baby which is grace. so evie thinks that Leslie betrayed her , so she escapes with her baby. the hook of this story is that they escape when the police officer was in the diner.the connection of this story is world. I think the opinion of this book is that its very great book and it teaches about the love between a mother that really cares for its baby.
this book is about one girl that have a baby when she was 17 but the condom broke so she was pregnant but her dad did not want her to have the baby because she was not ready to have a baby. When she had the baby her dad gave the baby in adoption so another family took her. but when the baby was 3 months old evie wanted to take briana back but she think that it was impossible because she doesn't think the hansen are gonna give it back to her. so she decide to go to the library so she could study books how to treat a baby. later she call his boyfriend so she could take her to she her baby but she lie she took the baby. she screen on justin start drivin move hurry justin asks her what are you doing avie said i'm taking my baby justin said but she not your you said you were coming to see her only. avie told justin to go to montreal it's a big city they were never find us over there justin ask her what are you going to do we don't have a lot of money and it's to far away evie said don't worry my mom put me every month money in the bank i just take it out all of them. justin told evie that he was going back evie said no we're not coming back you know that the police be looking for us in this moment i'm not losing brianna again she mine only mine so we're not going back and keep driving. justin stop because he was going to use the bathroom but evie left because she did not want to go back. she saw a policeman standing inside a restaurant while she was eating she got really scared because she think they were going to take the baby away from her. she left the restaurant and went to the bus station to go to montreal but she think they were going to be a lot of police man's standing in front of the pass way and then take her baby so she decide to go a different way.
The story did not have a cool ending but i like it. YObani Mendoza.
i like this book because is a story about a 15 years old girl that has a baby and her parent want to give the baby in adoption because they think that she cant take care of a bay so then her parents gave the babe to a mariage they live in front of them so she saw that they didnt take care of the babe they pay someone that can take care of the babe so she think and she wanted the babe cause she thought that the babe will be better with her so she took the babe and the ex boyfriend of her took them were they wanted to go but the girl wanted the boy to go with them and to make a life together because the girl still love hem cause he was the father of her child and she name her grace even thought the babe have her name but she didnt like the name. her and her boyfriend they mate in a party and they well it was love at first aye so the second time they saw each other well they did (s) and the (C) broke and she got worry and well they think that is how she got pregnant and well that is how grace was made.when they were driving they have to stop like 4 times because grace thit popo. When they stop the 4 time he went to the strore to buy some food when he was there he made a call and she saw hem and she got grace and run because she thought that he told the police cause they were looking for them, but she got tire of holding grace cause she was in the car sit the car sit was more heavy then grace so she wanted to find a place to eat cause she was hungry so she stop in a place and then a women help her and told her that grace needs to go to the doctor because she haves fever but she didnt wanted to take her cause they will take her away when they notice that she took her away. She told grace that she love her and that she will take care of her.
Evie, a fifteen year old girl, has kidnapped a child. Actually, it's her child. She became pregnant a 14 and her father made her give the baby up for adoption. Her boyfriend, Justin, is tricked into driving her. She told him that she only wanted to go look through the window at Grace, whom she renamed Brianna. That really is how it started out, she had been checking on her through the window for a while. Why was today any different? She started to get the feeling like the family wasn't taking enough care of the baby. She found out where her dad stashed the adoption papers, and they took off with the baby. Justin is furious. He decides to call the cops at a gas station that they stop at, and Evie takes off walking with the baby. She stops at a diner, and a really nice woman there tells her that the baby looks sick and that there is a hospital right down the road. Now, Evie has a decision to make. Should she take Brianna to the hospital, and risk going to jail and losing her? Or should she keep on running until she gets to Montreal, risking the baby's life? I like this book because it really made me think, what would I do if I was in that situation? It makes me question what's right and what's wrong. Evie's heart was pure, she wanted what was best for her baby. In the end, it didn't really turn out to be the best. I just wish that Justin would have come back for Evie.
The book Saving Grace is a realistic fiction book with 3 main characters: Justin,Grace, and Eve. Eve had a baby and she got it taken away from her. Eve went to the people,s house that kept her baby and kidnapped Grace. The house had no grass or play area for Grace to play as she got older.
Eve and Justin went home topack their bags, food, and other stuff they needed to travel with.vThey packed the baby food and clothes. They left after that. Eve and Justin traveled far from where they live so they will not be found.
Later on in the book, they stop by a corner store. Justin gets out the car to talk on the phone. It is dark outside. Eve packs a water bottle and baby food in a small bag she had. Eve and Grace left the car when Justin turned around. He didn't notice until they had made it to the bank Justin didn't find them. Grace and Eve are really hungry. They are almost to the place they need to be.
If I were Eve and Justin i would have kidnapped my child or done anything to get the baby back. I would have ledt town just so they wouldn't find me then take away my baby.
This is a good book to read because if you were ever thinking about saving someone you love, the book tells you why you should it.
The storyline was okay--a teen mom who takes her baby from the couple who adopted it and then has to make some very, very tough "Mom decisions." But, I would have probably liked it better if I were a teenager reading this.
I admire the protagonist for wanting to accept the responsibility of having a child. However, I really felt sorry for her---the decision was made for her to give the child up for adoption, she had no support systems, not her dad (mom was dead), friends, family, teachers at school, neighbors, or even the boy who was the father. Her best friend's mother even forbade the friendship because of her pregnancy. She had a plan on how to care for the baby, but she didn't have a clue on what day-by-day, hour-by-hour care meant. At least, at the end, she did make a responsibile decision--take the baby to the clinic for medical help, even if it meant she would be finally have to turn over the baby. Poor girl---in a tough situation for an adult while she herself was a kid, no support, but wanting to do what she felt was right and responsibile.
Saving Grace is a book about a young teen who who had an accident baby with a boy who was not accepted by her father. This girl's mom died in a car accident a few years back and her dad was making her give up the baby for adoption. A few months after having the baby she decides to see her for the first time and after that she decides to kidnap her own child with her boyfriend. Her boyfriend has no idea of the plan but helps her anyway.
The book had a really interesting plot. I was very interested in it since I know people who have adopted babies from mothers right from birth. Fortunately in their case, the mom has not wanted to see them or want them back in any way, since they know they went to a great home.
Saving Grace was extremely short on the other hand, and it did not give an ending. You are left hanging and wonder what happens to the characters at the end. I also was not pleased on how the wording wasn't great and it was as if a middle schooler had written it.
Overall the book wasn't terrible, but I would not recommend it to others.
This is a Hi-Lo book, meaning a book of high interest to teens but with a lower reading level to make them accessible to those with trouble reading.
I would say that this book accomplishes both goals well. The story is about a teen mother who kidnaps her baby after she has been adopted by someone else. The story does compel you to keep going and find out what happens. And it's highly readable.
It's also emotional. Not always in a good way. I found myself growing very irritated with the main character and thinking she is overly stupid and naive. Which makes me wonder if that's an author bias (a girl who gets pregnant at 14 is stupid and naive? Hardly seems fair if that's the case...)
This irritation honestly kept me from enjoying the story overly much. Sorry, it could have been done better. Would I recommend it? Not sure. It's not easy finding Hi-lo books to begin with. This one is OK. But it's not the best.
When I first saw this book I thought "Is this made for a 3rd Grader?" because the book looked like a kid book with large print in it. My view as far as Evie kidnapping Grace/Brianna was a selfish move. Yes she was her mom but she had no idea how to even be a mom. She should have left Grace/Brianna where she was at, in a nice home. Evie couldnt even take care of her, she had little money, nowhere to live and no job. She didnt even know how to burp Grace/Brianna, the Waitress had to show her. I dont know what Evie was thinking when she ran from Justin and took her 5 month old baby out in the middle of the night. She put both her and her baby in danger. I thought it was cold hearted for Justin, Brianna's dad to say "I dont want to be her father, she was an accident" That's not something you should say about your own child. All and all this book was too short and left us with a cliffhanger.
This book was good. I don't know if any of you are aware, but this book is actually more so for readers who have a lower reading ability. This book is more so designed for teens who need assistance in reading. Because of this, this book has simple words, and is a very short 90 something pages. I enjoy reading these, just for a light, short read :)
This book somewhat irritated me though, because the main character Evie, was so naive and in my opinion, very stupid. What kind of a person steals babies? I know she gave it up for adoption, and she had apparently "made the mistake", but thats no excuse...
She was so clueless, and clearly did not give a shit about her baby, or she wouldn't be doing what she was doing.
Other than that, this was well written, and I LOVED the idea of the plot. Very interesting and original.
