"Where Are the Children" was a decent read. It was compelling to see how different we were as a society with women in the 70s and how they were much more subservient than they are nowadays. "A Stranger is Watching" was a good book too. Again, because it was set in the 70s, and I'm reading it in 2011, times are a bit different. I really just wanted to strangle Arty. Always imagining that a woman was in love with him, and wanting to kiss her and love on her was rather disgusting in the given situations. "A Cradle Will Fall" was a really good read as well. It is scary how much we have advanced since the 1970s though. Wow. And crime scene investigations have also advanced to where Dr. Highly's criminal actions would likely have been discovered years before he managed to kill off so many people. Well, we can hope.
Although I’ve become accustomed to the usual formula for her books, these were not what I expected! Usually I am trying to guess which character is the murderer, but in two of these books it was clear right away. I was still able to guess the twists, but not until very near the end!
I actually only bought this book b/c I wanted to read where are the children before reading where are the children now. This book was cheaper on ebay than just buying the single copy of where are the children. Out of the 3 books featured in this book, I actually ended up liking the cradle will fall the best. I know where are the children is suppose to be her stand out novel, and it was good. I just thought the cradle will fall was better. A stranger is watching was my least favorite of the three.
I absolutely love all 3 of these edge of your seat mystery/suspense novels. They are not only fabulous writing but perfectly timed out so that the one chapter leaves you asking questions and wanting to just read one more chapter until the next thing you know the books all done. each story goes that fast!
This was a very good book how ever I do wish that the author had done more to make it more interesting. I look forward to reading more of this authors work.
Back in the day I had to have one of her books if it was a beach vacation! lol, the story would grab me in the first couple of pages. I could down shift and relax into the sand!
First read Where are the Children? in 1977 while instructional aid for high school English class. Current read confirmed the characters and crimes were quite simplified by 2019 standards. Writing has more repetition than I prefer, but it was a less violent/sexually explicit murder mystery book I picked for reading to 98 year old mom.
I put this one up for the A Stranger is Watching. I just finished it and like all the other Mary Higgins Clark books I have read, I really enjoyed it, hard to put down.
Have just started reading Mary Higgins Clark and I have found another awesome author to follow. I really enjoyed all 3 novels and I'm sure I will enjoy the rest of her books.
