A clear, fine overview of labor history in Colorado. As such, it answers a real need. Not a lot has been written about the mining battles and labor wars in this state, apart from the bloody massacre at Ludlow. Knight covers a lot of territory well and with objectivity. Schools tend to ignore labor history, both on the national and state level. And that’s a damn shame, because we forget how much blood and sacrifice went into eliminating child labor and to establishing basic rights for workers, such as the 40-hour work week and job safety. This book offers a reminder of the sacrifices that these victories exacted on a lot of brave men and women.
