Mel Brooks once said, "tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into a sewer and die." So, horror comedy is when you fall into a sewer and die, but land in some government toxic waste, and come back to life, to eat your friend who was crying over their cut finger while you fell down the sewer and died. And then you say something about, I don't know, finger sandwiches? I'm not the funny guy. But Paul Lubaczewski is! With horror comedy classics like I Never Eat... Cheesesteak and Cult of the Gator God , Paul knows his way around the subgenre, and he enlisted the best of the best who have delivered a hell of a collection! "What I like about the anthology you're about to dig into is it does show the range of the genre, from full-out potty humor all the way to some slick and clever wordplay, from the bizarre to the parody, it's all in here. Which is a testament to the talent of the authors who didn't immediately block me on all social media when I started asking around for contributions," says Paul in his introduction. The lineup includes... “What the Cat Dragged” in by Nikki Nelson-Hicks “Pubes” by RJ Benetti “Dem Ghoulish Blues” by Christine Morgan “The Night of the Living Not Gonna Die but Keep on Living People Who I Couldn’t Kill” By Damien Casey & Kyra R. Torres “ The Demon Lord of Shit ” by Tony Evans “Voodou Lemonade” by Michael Allen Rose “Something Is A--Uh--Without Feet--At the Circle S” By Nikolas P. Robinson “The Assassination of Mr. Baltisberger” by John Baltisberger “No Pets Allowed” by Paul Lubaczewski “Slippery Shit” by John Wayne Comunale “I’m No Jeff Strand” by Bridgett Nelson “The Academic Hearing Committee’s Final Decision” by Kenzie Jennings “Is That Voodoo Doll Anatomically Correct?” by Robert Essig “Torture Porn for Prudes” by Jeff Strand
Bram Stoker Award-winning author of a bunch of demented books, including PRESSURE, DWELLER, CLOWNS VS. SPIDERS, AUTUMN BLEEDS INTO WINTER, MY PRETTIES, the official novelization of ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES, and lots of others!
This is a comedy horror short story collection. I was thinking based on the title that it may be Halloween-themed but it actually wasn’t. That’s not a complaint. Just wish I hadn’t waited so long to read it! I waited for spooky season.
This book was a blast! None of them were super creepy but they did make me laugh out loud more times than I can count. There were also lots of gross scenes too which is always fun.
While I enjoyed all the stories, I do have some favorites…
T*rture P*rn for Prudes by Jeff Strand: No way could my explanation do this one justice. It had all the witty banter that Jeff Strand is known for. It had me laughing so hard that one of my kids actually came to check on me. 😂
Is that VooDoo Doll Anatomically Correct by Robert Essig: A man has a problem with his man part so he goes to a lady who makes a voodoo doo to help with his problem. Things don’t go as planned.
No Pets Allowed by Paul Lubaczewski : A fun and unique werewolf story
Voodou Lemonade by Michael Allen Rose: There’s not much I can say about this one without giving the whole thing away. It involves a cute little girl and a lemonade stand.
This was a fun book for me. It consisted of short stories, but it had my 2 favorite genres in it. One minute I’m in shock because of how disgusting and vile it is and the next minute I’m laughing my ass off. I enjoyed this book!!
