I can't stand this book. It has no plot. A sad owl is asking why no one came to his party. His friends seem to be playing a cruel trick of hiding from him. This is a favorite book in the house, according to the child, so I'm bumping it up to 2 stars as a compromise.
Wickle Woo, an owl dressed up in a wizard's cloak and pointed hat, is having a party, but can't find his friends. His friends are hiding at the end of sturdy tabs- each one in a costume- and the reader needs to pull the tab to find them. Lion's a pirate, Bear's a flower, Tiger's a ghost, Crocodile's a superhero, Monkey's an astronaut, Frog's a princess, Cheetah's a vampire; all are non-threatening with friendly smiles. Even the dangling spider, numerous pumpkins, and assorted bats are cute. This is a good way to introduce the idea of Halloween and dressing up in a costume. One drawback of this sturdy board book is that all of the tabs don't pull out easily; hopefully this manufacturing defect can be corrected.
