Best in the series so far

This was an amazing story that continues Nienna's story. It's an epic fantasy with a dragon that throws her back in time. Throughout the story, I kept wondering if she would escape the fate she saw happen in the previous books. I won't spoil it, but the lead up to those moments was heart-wrenching.

I honestly can't wait for book 4. Bring on the water element.

The Queen of the Night, the third volume of THE COMSTOCK CHRONICLES, is an absolute delight to read. This fantasy adventure takes readers on a thrilling journey that keeps you hooked from start to finish.

The world-building is fantastic, immersing readers in a realm of elemental magic and captivating shifters. The descriptions are vivid, making it easy to visualize the setting and feel like a part of the story.

The supporting characters are well-developed and add depth to the narrative. Even the villain's motives are intriguing and kept me guessing.

The writing style is engaging and keeps the story moving at a great pace. The slow-burn romance is a lovely addition to the plot.

Overall, The Queen of the Night is a wonderful addition to THE COMSTOCK CHRONICLES. If you enjoy clean young adult epic fantasy with memorable characters and an enchanting adventure, this book is a must-read. I eagerly anticipate the next installment!

Chock full with magic, dragons, and time travel, this latest installment in the series sees main character Nienna (aka Reina) face perhaps her greatest challenge yet.

Unexpectedly hurled back in time (not a spoiler, this happens right at the start of the book), she faces captivity and torture at the hands of a powerful, remorseless enemy.

Can she return to her own time, defeat her foe (he's essentially immortal), and reconnect with her true love? There's lots here to please readers of fantasy and adventure, especially young adults. I particularly enjoyed the diverse characters—with more to come in the next book.

I’ve enjoyed all three of your books of “The Comstock Chronicles” series thus far. “The Queen of the Night” is probably my favorite. I loved how you showed the past history of the Comstocks. I enjoyed seeing the world of the Comstock Empire and Northern Reach from this perspective that you gave. The most saddest part throughout the story is Nienna’s hardships. What she went through would be hard for any person, but it made her a better person and stronger character. I can’t wait for the next journey of “The Comstock Chronicles”!

This book started out very intense and quite scary. In a word: Fantastic. It was actually a little emotionally difficult to read about the trauma and terror of Reina (the name I think Nienna prefers to go by, now) as she and her powers are held slave by an evil dragon/shape shifter. There is a lot of tension that had me quickly turning pages to see how/if she escapes. The dynamics of the relationship (disregarding the abuse) between Reina and her captor, a truly terrifying entity, was quite intriguing. A definite five stars for the introductory chapters. I was glad to get through them with being only slightly traumatized myself.

The concept of having the MC travel back in time to provide a historical context for previous books was interesting and enjoyable. It also provided the opportunity to get to know characters that had been only mentioned in previous books, as well as to meet some new ones. The world building and character development are very good and it is easy to get caught up in this fantasy story.

For those who enjoy battle scenes and fights, you will not be disappointed as there as there are quite a few. I am more into world building, elemental magic, and interpersonal dynamics, and there are quite a bit of those elements to enjoy that play off of the battles between good and evil.

What I didn't like about the book was how deceptive Reina becomes in hiding her powers. Why does she hide them from Tellen, her would-be love? Because she thinks he won't like her if she is truthful. I could write a whole blog, possibly a book, about truthfulness in relationships, and projecting negative characteristics on a partner and predicting how one thinks they will react to difficult news. If he is such a small-minded person by reacting negatively to circumstances beyond Reina's control, is he worth developing a relationship with? Is he really that jealous? Overbearing and possessive? Can love overcome all? Am I reading too much into this?

I was a little confused about Reina's powers being controlled. At times she seems capable of casting off the magical sigils that restrain her, by her own elemental power and will, but she then backslides into powerlessness. But perhaps I am just too impatient to see her reach her full potential. Each book finds her getting a new power, and I am eager to see her receive the next power and if she will ever be able to use it/them. And then, what is to become of all those dragons?
