T.H. Cini is a Canadian author. His stories are considered surreal with elements that touch on the paranormal. His works border on Literary Fiction and Genre Fiction. Many of his themes include the afterlife and dreams.

Tales of the Witching Hour is situated in the 1980’s. He chose this era for two distinct reasons; he grew up in the 80’s and more specifically, he relies on the uniqueness and mystery surrounding life before the digital age. The book is a collection of four stories, titled: The Man in the Fedora Hat, The Red Balloon, The Typewriter, and The Whispering Room.

Tales of the Other Side. Maintaining the 80’s theme, these four stories are a collection of weird tales which include the afterlife and dreams. The four stories are: The Very Cold Corner, The Mirror and Mrs. Crandall, The Dream-Escape: Dreams of Linen, and Spot 57.

The Dream-Escape, T.H. Cini’s third book, was released in December 2021 and contains the original Dreams of Linen title from Tales of the Other Side. He continued on with the short story series adding: Searching for Mary, The Eyes of a Marchesa, and The Shadow in the Window. The Eyes of a Marchesa is about the narrator’s journey in the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) and becoming entranced by the eyes of the portrait of The Marchesa Casati, painted by Welsh artist Augustus John. These four stories are all based on the narrator’s ability to fall into interactive dreams based on indicators during his waking world.

In Amongst the Cornfields and Other Stories was released in April 2022. The main title, In Amongst the Cornfields is his only Gothic Fiction story. This novella is centered around a ten-year-old boy’s obsession with what is inside his neighbor's shed. This story and The Lost Letter of Geraldine Thompson are slightly different from other stories as they are considered mainstream fiction. He veered away from his traditional surreal writing and focused on a more historical setting which contain romantic elements and suspense. The second story, In Consequence of the Written Word, is also situated in the early 1980’s and features a ghost, soothsayers, and messages that link to the Oracle of Delphi in Greece.

gHost Road, released in June 2023. In the small town of Hastings, Ontario, Jimmy discovers that he hasn’t been the best person to himself or to others. He stumbles upon this in a strange way and at a mysterious location—gHost Road.

With that title, cover and premise I was immediately drawn to this book, so maybe my expectations were a little too high.

The ideas behind this book are great but I think it needed more work. For something that's supposed to be about someone's discovery that they haven't been the best to themselves or others the introspection is conspicuously lacking. Arguments and tensions are at most hinted at but largely it just seems like the guy was a bit critical maybe and while that doesn't necessarily make for the best relationships that seems a little underwhelming. His progression would have benefited from his character being better established.

Stylistically it was rather plain and different elements of the book came across as disjointed, if the writing had been more stylized it would have came across as more intentional however because the style was what it was it came across as somewhat rushed. It felt like the book never fully committed to being one thing or another and that's one of the areas in which it really fell short.

Jimmy's relationship with Beatrice was really the strongest aspect of the book and the one aspect that felt like it was given appropriate time to develop.

I also hate it when a book ends in a kind of way and that's what happened in this one so that really didn't help my overall enjoyment of the book.

I received an eARC of this book, many thanks to BookGoSocial on Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.

gHost Road by T.H. Cini is a unique paranormal read that will make you question your own reality.

Sometimes, you just wish there was some magical karma out there to teach those who are awful people how to be nice people. Well, this book is a unique twist on that though. Jimmy isn't the greatest person out there, but man... does he quickly learn that he should be. He gets detached from his soul and he has to learn how to be a better person to get it back.

It's a unique take that could be a much bigger story. I did like how the book kept it fairly small in stature though, and the relationships built within the book made it work really well.

This book isn't what I typically would read, but I always enjoy a good Canadian book so I'll branch out.

This paranormal horror wasn't as scary as I expected it to be, but I think it still worked.

Overall, I like this unique book. T.H. Cini is a good author and I can't wait to see what they do next.

Three out of five stars.

I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Ghost Road By T. H.Cini
This is a Paranormal book based on Seance's, the Soul vs Body and of course Love. Thought the story was unusual but turned out pretty good. It's also a short story just
wish it was a little longer.

Interesting concept of one being detached from one’s soul, how does one reconnect. One man’s story of losing his soul and learning how to be better person in order to get his soul back.

I received a copy of this book as part of Goodreads Giveaways.

I think there was the potential for a good story here but it was missing a lot of details and most of the story seemed disjointed and abrupt. I think a lot of things could have been expanded upon and they would have added to the story, and other details we could have done without. Like I don't think the reader really needs to know the name of every road a character walks/drives down, except for the title road.

I understand why this is in the horror genre, but it certainly wasn't scary. I would say it was almost comical at several points.

A lot of ghost stories I have read aren't like this. This, in my opinion, was a good story. Could it have had more details? Yes. However, not too much more. A few times I got a little lost, but soon figured out what was going on. The end was a bit anti-climatic, but I didn't expect it to happen like that. I thought the author was going to just leave it as it was before the main character was found by Fred at the end. I would like to know more about Fred. How did he become who he is? I also liked that the author alluded to what the hole was without throwing it in our faces what it was. We could decide what it was based on our own beliefs and opinions.

Seances, lost, wandering and tortured souls in a small town called Hastings. The location of this story is relatable as I reside in the Northumberland/Trent Hills area. It was fun to get lost in thought in reading this story and believing there really are spirits and souls wandering amongst the living. The only disappointment was the story had to come to an end. Looking forward to the author's next story..

I struggled to connect with this novella. The main character, Jimmy, was difficult to like (which I know was part of the point/premise), and the excessive use of exclamation points was often times distracting. I felt there was certainly potential in the story and ideas presented, but for me the execution fell short.

This was an interesting short story. It kept my attention throughout. However, the ending...really? I don't want to give anything away, but I was like..."What just happened?" It's a quick "haunting" story, so I recommend the book. Not my favorite, but it was OK. I won this book through Goodreads and this is my honest opinion.

A captivating story, which although fictional, allows the reader to contemplate their own journey through life…moments when we perhaps are wondering what our actual purpose is in life…if we are being the best possible version of who we really are…if we are indeed being good, kind humans. How many humans are actually living in fear…or waking up each morning not fully appreciating what being a human really means…trapped in their own mind and body…forgetting how precious time on earth is…and allowing their connections and relationships to crumble…and then living with the possibility of being alone.
There are moments in the book that allow the reader to pause and think of their own existence regarding who they are, who they have become and perhaps explore the idea that making some shifts may be necessary. Especially for those who are carrying a heavy load, are lost souls, or feel forgotten and unloved. And it is quotes, such as, “ As humans, you are complicated creatures…whose soul occupies our body?” that are thought provoking and which allow the reader to recognize that when we are stuck or lost, we can find comfort in the most unlikely places when we need it. And if we approach life, with our eyes and our hearts wide open, we can connect with our true soul and live a good, happy life, giving and receiving kindness, love and hope. Thank you T.H. Cini for this lovely gift…so grateful!

“What a momentum for self-reflection,” – I exclaimed after reading the first 15 pages of the book gHost.

The title, though, played its magic role. It created the mindset for some extraordinary atmosphere and surreal scenes, imaginations, or thoughts every time the name of gHost Rd. appeared for the reader.

I liked how the author presents his protagonist and pitches his personality in a way that it’s up to the reader to judge whether he is a positive or negative character.

The book explores deeper concepts of self-identification and self-awareness, ponders morality, and questions the possibility of second chances in life. However, more important to me was a reflection on the absolute balance between our souls and our bodies, which mirrors us and our behavior in society.

But how to reach that balance and what for? It’s a great question for everyone ready for this exciting challenge, which eventually will bring us to personal growth and inner peace.

It took me a while to read this novel as I deliberately stopped many times in order to reflect and find the answers for myself before I moved on to the next chapter.
Great book, definitely recommend for reading!

Ghost road by T.H. Cini.
I loved the cover. This is a new author for me. I did find it slow to get into but after a while I started to enjoy it. It was different. I did like Bea. I also liked Agnes and Dolores. I wasn't sure about Jimmi. He grew on me. I did like the ending. 4*.

Blurb.

In the town of Hastings, Ohio there is a man, Jimmy who goes to work by bicycle and returns home by bicycle. He has discovered that he has not been nice to people or even himself. As he returns one day to home, he has an argument with himself. Eventually “one side” wins that separates his soul from his body. Have you ever heard of your soul departing from your body while awake? His soul doesn’t know what to think. His body won’t let his soul return. The soul will have an unexpected adventure. While Jimmy is without his soul, he has been acting differently. Why?

This book is a unique story as one doesn’t know if Jimmy dreamed this experience or did it happen? I’m not sure I Know as I wanted to know where Fred came from. Is Fred real? I enjoyed the story immensely.

Disclaime: I received a book from the author. I wasn’t obligated to write a favorable review. The opinions expressed are strictly my own.

The horse dung!

This story was a trip. It caught my attention when the body told the soul it was tired of it. I felt the truth in that. How one can be one's own worst enemy and wishes for a way to separate from oneself. I almost stopped reading it when it got to the horse dung, but I didn't imagine that ending. I don't know how to feel about the ending but I didn't hate it. I think I just yearned for more of the MC's story. What happened after? It's fair to assume he lives a better life, but I would've liked to know more.

interesting

Wasn’t sure what to expect and this book was definitely different. Interesting plot line sure makes you look at life through different eyes. We all should realize that our spirits separate from our bodies when we die and this book shows some unexpected aspects or possibilities of the afterlife. A very interesting read.

I received this book as a part of a Goodreads giveaway. An interesting paranormal read. Something outside of my typical genres of books but glad I stepped outside of my comfort zone. This book started a little slow for me but picked up towards the middle. Interesting novel about the body and soul and of course love.

I received this in a good reads give away. Thanks for the chance to read it!
I was intrigued by the title and cover. The plot sounded like something I would like. However, I couldn’t get past Jimmy talking to himself. I found it annoying. I’ll be honest, I skimmed most of the book. It just didn’t hold my interest

The main character of this book, Jimmy, discovers an old abandoned house one day when he is riding his bike. He quickly discovers that there is more to this house than he imagined, after he begins having strange experiences each time he visits.

This is a story about paranormal activity and the separation of body and soul. The author tries to teach a lesson as part of it - think almost of the story of A Christmas Carol.

This book is a little hard to follow and figure out what's going on at times. The story seems a bit choppy. I didn't find it to be scary, so if that is the vibe the author was going for, they missed the mark. But it's quick and entertaining with a bit of a surprise ending.

I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Overall this was a pretty good read. My disappointment was the description of the Village Of Hastings. The Hub of The Trent. I have resided just outside of Hastings , yet my address is Hastings, Ontario. There is so much more further if he had been more describtive of the village and what is has to offer! I believe the book is based in the year 1982. Well back then the village had its distinctive characters around town and the town, in and about itself. Back then I believe we have upgraded in some areas and gone down in others. Like every small town or village in Ontario. It would of carried my interest of the book that much greater.
But kudos to the author for a book where it takes place in the great little fishing village of Trent Hills, Ontario!

I received a copy of this book as part of Goodreads Giveaways.

The separation of body and soul was an interesting take on the horror genre, and I thought there were some ideas in this short novel that had a lot of potential. However, I struggled to connect emotionally to most of the characters because of the disjointed and abrupt plot. I wish some of the themes were more fully explored. For example, the idea that one's thoughts can be damaging enough to want to shed oneself of his soul is quite compelling and "scary", yet this whole theme is laid out for the reader in a couple examples of self-criticism. In contrast, the more captivating moments for me were the instances of development between Jimmy and Beatrice as their relationship progresses. The book also lost points for me during the scenes of dialogue between Jimmy and a literal pile of crap.
