Wow. This has to be the most original erotic novel ever written. The series started out a cut above the rest and just kept raising the bar progressively. It’s set in the 22nd century so it naturally has sci fi undertones, although it follows on from the previous two effectively. Unlike the first two instalments, Paramount Rule 3 is a series of short stories rather than a regular novel, but it works. Selina’s influence has affected the entire world and the book tells stories from different countries, with different characters in different scenarios. Some of the BDSM ideas are completely unique and unlikely to be found in other works.

But what makes this book so astonishing is the irony and realism of its diverse personality types. It’s as emotional as it is horrifying and as thought provoking as it is sexually arousing.

The ending concludes the series and was the last thing I ever expected. It had to be a risky move on Ms Simmonds part and was a deeply emotional read. If you read between the lines, its clear she was writing to arouse but also attacking the notion of domination and tyranny. I signed up for the free alternate ending, but felt that it cheapened it. According to Ms Simmonds, a publisher pressured into changing the ending to something more femdom friendly. I am a femdom fan but her original ending was much more powerful and heartfelt. For me it was worth sacrificing the porn kicks for something more meaningful and profound.

On to Under the Paramount Rule next.
