A Dictionary of Kleinian Thought

Rate this book
Already established as the essential companion to Laplanche and Pontalis' The Language of Psycho-Analysis, A Dictionary of Kleinian Thought is a much-needed reference work for clinicians, psychologists, scholars in other fields, and anyone else interested in the thought and work of Melanie Klein.

In this second edition, Dr. Hinshelwood made a thorough revision of the book in light of comments, suggestions, and critical reviews of the first edition. The result is the first comprehensive and wholly accessible exposition of Kleinian ideas.

Hinshelwood identifies the main concepts in Kleinian psychoanalysis (e.g., unconscious phantasy, anxiety, and projective identification) and their more recent developments in the works of such Kleinians as Bion, Segal, Rosefeld, and Meltzer. The Dictionary also defines Kleinian terms in a series of general entries and gives citations indicating where they appear in the secondary literature. The book concludes with a revised, comprehensive bibliography of Kleinian writings as of 1990.
