About the author

Chica Umino (Jap: 羽海野チカ) is a Japanese mangaka.
Her real name is not disclosed, "Umino Chica" is a pen name.

She began work as a product designer and illustrator.
Umino has a unique drawing style, listing Studio Ghibli amongst her influences, and her characters are remarkably well-developed.

Her most famous series to date is Hachimitsu to Clover (English name: Honey and Clover), a 'slice of life' manga series which debuted in 2000 in Shueisha's manga magazine, CUTiEcomic. The series won the Kodansha Manga Award in 2003 and was nominated for the Tezuka Culture Prize and an award from the Japan Media Arts Festival. It was also adapted into an animated television series in 2005, a live-action movie in 2006 and two individual live-action TV series in 2008.

Her ongoing recent series is Sangatsu no Lion (English name: March comes in like a lion), which began serialization in 2007. The series won several important prizes including: the Manga Taisho prize and Kodansha Manga Prize (general audience) in 2011, the Tezuka Osamushi Cultural Prize in 2014, and the Bunkacho Media Geijutsusai Manga bumon in 2021.

Umino has also provided the illustration for the 2009 anime series Eden of the East by Kenji Kamiyama, as well as 'Tobira o Akete' and the Glass Heart series, including 'Boukensha-tachi', 'Netsu no Shiro' and 'Love Way'.

This volume is defined by important two shogi matches. First is Kiriyama's first match with the Meijin in an exhibition. It serves as an opening act for Shimada's own epic battle for his first title. That latter match was handled beautifully by the author; the reader can feel the crowd getting goosebumps in the deciding game for the title.

It's not all shogi though, because this volume again maintains a good balance between the shogi and the slow character moments that I long for as a reader. Like, Kiriyama participating in a festival with the Kawamoto family. This is another great volume, as this series is just going from strength to strength.

Cái cảm giác rung động tận tâm can thế này quá lâu rồi tôi đã không trải qua. Tối mùa Đông này, co ro trên ghế vì mặc áo cộc này, thế mà lại có thể nhớ như in cái không khí mùa Hè của vài năm về trước, hoặc cậu có thể tưởng tượng như khi đang đọc Honey and Clover cũng được. Từ sau tập 4 thì đến bây giờ mới gặp một tập xuất sắc của Sư tử tháng Ba nữa. Tôi chắc mẩm liệu có phải tập nào liên quan đến Shimada bát đẳng thì cũng sâu sắc đến thế này hay không. Dám lắm nhìn mặt ổng đã thấy sâu rồi ấy chớ.

Đọc xong rồi mới hay tôi vớ phải cái cuốn trang bị rách rồi. Vì chúa cả ngày nay tôi chịu đựng còn chưa đủ hay sao. Huhu.

Rei se enfrenta a Sôya, enterándose de una particularidad de éste: ¿por qué a su alrededor parece no haber sonido?

Por otro lado, Shimada se enfrenta a Yanagihara por el que sería su primer título, pero Yanagihara se juega el título "eterno" (mantenerlo un total de 10 temporadas)... ¿quién ganará?

Y también Hina logra reunirse con su amiga Chiho, además de participar en la feria de Sangatsu, con un puestito de dulces, junto a su familia y Rei.

Muy bello tomo, en el que ya estamos llegando casi al final de lo adaptado en animación... ¡qué emoción!

Después de unos capítulos más centrados en Hina y la familia Kawamoto, nos encontramos con un tomo más de shōgi pero que, a diferencia de otros anteriores, no llega a ser tan denso. Conocemos más del personaje de Sôya lo que nos ayuda a empezar a entender a un personaje caracterizado por esa aura tan misteriosa. Vemos también cómo Kiriyama va evolucionando no solo en su juego sino como persona. Tengo la sensación de que, por fin, está comenzando a sentirse en paz consigo mismo. En la segunda mitad, tenemos el enfrentamiento entre Yanagihara y Shimada donde se plantearan preguntas y dudas sobre qué significa el paso del tiempo, la llegada la vejez y el punto en el que uno se plantea si merece la pena continuar o no; temas que no suelen ser habituales en manga.

He echado de menos ver más de Chiho y de cómo, poco a poco, se va recuperando pero puede que sea un tema que aborden más adelante. Me gusta la forma tan cálida con la que han acabado el tomo porque después de tanto sufrimiento, ya era hora de cerrar un volumen con el corazón "calentito". Sigo diciendo que el dibujo mejora con cada tomo, tanto con la expresividad de sus personajes como con los elementos de fondo. Se nota el cariño en cada detalle, incluso en el último capítulo que, a priori, no es tan "importante" como otros.

La vittoria e la sconfitta non si decidono così facilmente, lo sanno tutti. Anche oggi verrò avvolto dalle fiamme brucianti, e resisterò al dolore finché posso."

Possiamo parlare del modo in cui Chica Umino ci caratterizza anche il maggiolino nel cotone tra un po'?

Deux matchs dans ce tome :

Kiriyama contre Soyâ, ou il découvre aussi sa surdité.

Puis Shimada 8eme dan affronte un papi pour tenter de gagner son premier titre, et son adversaire de 66ans lutte pour tous ses camarades qui ont arrêté de jouer. Les métaphores sont puissantes et le manga est solide, doux et fort, comme toujours.

작중 주제는 (일본)장기지만, 작가의 이야기고, 자신의 분야에서 정상을 바라보는 모든 사람들의 이야기. 누군가에겐 괴물이어왔고, 나때문에 포기한 그들의 꿈에 짓눌려있지만, 그것은 짐인 동시에 자신를 지탱하는 지지대이기도.
+ 소야와의 첫 대국을 치른 뒤 레이의 모습에 공감 100퍼. 이건 어떻게 말로 설명이 안 되네ㅎㅎ 동경하던 명인과의 대국에서 압도적인 실력차를 느끼면서도 그와 동시에 동질감과 안정감을 느끼는.
