Splendid book on early Rhode Island history! Bridenbaugh writes about the early history of Rhode Island from an economic standpoint, masterfully intertwining religious, political, and agricultural histories enduring from the Old Country in his narrative. He asserts many times over that there are hardly any documents from the time period directly addressing Rhode Island history beyond commerce records and letters, and he reconstructs a full, rich history from those sparse documents alone. In short, Rhode Island's agriculture and trade in the 17th Century is far richer than you may think. This is easily the best book about Rhode Island I've ever read, do read it if you can find a copy.
