In “Starfall” the last and best novel in the “Starstruck” series Sovereign Emileia (aka Marsha Truitt) swept up in the politics of Nuath has not only made contact with the Grentl; uncovered a power shortage that will mean the emigration of the Martians to Earth; but also learned of the conspiracy to steal Rigel’s memory and return him to his parents in Jewel, Indiana. Heartbroken but discovering a way to draw wisdom from her deceased grandfather through the royal scepter, Emileia (“M”) is prepared to fulfill her royal duty and appoint a Regent before she returns to Earth.
Returning to Jewel High School with his memory of the last year stolen, Rigel is quickly immersed in his studies, football, and Trina Squire’s flirtation until he notices the spark that flares whenever “M” accidently touches him. Drawn to her but shying away when he discovers his friend Sean is her royal Consort, Rigel questions the changes in his performance on the football field and his health, until they reignite their connection after the truth of their past is revealed.
Fast-paced and action-packed as the plot sweeps the reader from the politically volatile atmosphere of Nuath back to Jewel, Indiana where the Duchas (Earthlings) never suspect “M” is the Martians' monarch, intensity and suspense build with betrayals, intrigues and conflicts that include the Grentl plan for Earth. With twists like Rigel’s stolen memory and his breakup with M, Brenda Hiatt keeps the reader on the edge of their seat as the plot flows smoothly to an explosive confrontation near the end.
Determined to mend the damage that was done to her soulmate’s mind on Mars, M returns to Jewel High School only to have to deal with Trina’s flirtation, Rigel’s insecurities and fear of hurting his new friendship with Sean. Yet love prevails as their powers become even more enhanced. Sadly, Sean begins to realize that his obsession with M is hurting them both and that he must look elsewhere for love.
Brenda Hiatt does a remarkable job of developing the main characters throughout the series, and none more than Marsha (M) Truitt (the Martian Sovereign Emileia). She’s grown from a geeky, insecure and impulsive sixteen-year-old into a responsible, astute and resourceful leader.
I enjoyed " Starfall" a well-developed and exciting scify romance that will steal a lot of teenage girls’ hearts.
