يأتي الجمل لزيارتنا ويرفض كل ما نقدمه له من مأكولات. وفي
النهاية آخذه عند جدتي التي تحضر له اللقيمات، طبق تقليدي
إماراتي. ولكن لماذا لا يحبها حين يتذوقها؟ آه! لقد نسيت
جدتي أن تسكب الدبس عليها. قصة طريفة تعرف الطفل على
اللقيمات وعلى تقاليد بلادنا في الضيافة والكرم.

A little Bedouin girl is stuck with a peculiar camel guest who drops by and refuses to eat all the food the Emirati family offers him. He demands loqaimat (sweet and crunchy bites) and will not settle for them alone without dipping them in the traditional date syrup. When a Camel Craves Crunchies (Loqaimat) is a humorous and rhyming story presenting the UAE traditional customs of food and hospitality.

About the author

Maitha AlKhayat is an Emirati mother of five children and an international children’s author and illustrator. She published more than 170 publications, some translated into English, Turkish and Italian. She delights children with her quirky yet cultural stories through interactive storytelling and workshops. Her award winning books are “My Own Special Way” and “Turn Off The Lights”. Her illustrations of “Father’s Date Palm Trees” was shortlisted for best picture book at Zayed Book Award 2020. Maitha enjoys traveling, cooking and even writing children’s TV shows like Iftah Ya Simsim, Sesame Street and Hamdoon; Emirati animation.

كلمة اللقيمات بحد ذاتها من الكلمات التي تجذب الأطفال لقراءتها، فهي من الوجبات الإماراتية الشعبية و المحبوبة لدى الكبار و الصغار
القصة جميلة جداً و ممتعة حيث تعرفنا على العادات و التقاليد و الضيافة الإماراتية و كرم شعبها.

قصة جميلة عن تراثنا الجميل عندما يرفض الجمل الاكل الا بعد ان رأى اللقيمات وجدتي تعدها رفض تقبل طعمها للمرة الاولى لكن بعد ذلك اكل بشراهة عندما وضعت الجدة الدبس اللذيذ

A lovely intelligent way of introducing Emirati culture, you never get bored of this story and everytime you just want to grab those yummy dunkins. Way to go and waiting for more stories to come from a magnificent author.
