Trick My Truck But Don't Mess With My Heart

Following her father’s heart attack, Candie Montgomery takes leave from her advertising job in Chicago and returns to Pinewood, Ky., to help her twin sister, Sarah, run the family’s used-car business. The townsfolk blame Candie for the recent breakup of her sister’s engagement to longtime love, Nick, so Sarah suggests Candie find a boyfriend to take the heat off. Damage control comes in form of gorgeous and amiable Tommy Tucker, the new rec director at a local park, who offers before she can even ask. The two soon discover an ease with one another along with a sizzling attraction. Candie Montgomery has returned home to Pinewood, Kentucky. Pinewood is so small that everyone knows everyone else as well as their business. So when news that Candie’s sister, Sarah and her finance, Nick have broken up, because Candie ends up being the other woman; everyone in town starts shunning her.

Candie is so chocked that she would ever be the other women, especially to her own sister. Besides it’s a little hard to break up anyone when Candie has been living in Chicago for the past two years. Nick and Candie are really close friends. Candie has thought about Nick as someone other then just a friend.

Candie has to find a way to put the rumors to rest…fast. Candie comes up with the idea to have someone play her boyfriend but whom and where is she going to find someone willing to play the part? Tommy Tucker is the town’s heartbreaker. Tommy is easy on the eyes but has the reputation of being a player. When Tommy hears that Candie needs someone to play her boyfriend, he agrees. Candie now has a boyfriend but is it Nick her heart desires?

Oh my gosh, Candie and her sister Sarah are so funny. The adventures they get themselves into are priceless but than you throw in the antics and comments they make and you have pure magic. Candie just goes to show you that you can take the girl out of the county but you can’t get the county out of the girl. I love the fact that the male leads always represent a hunky, male county singer. This time it was Keith Urban in the form of Tommy Tucker. Also another thing I love about these books is the titles like…Trick My Truck but Don’t Mess with My Heart or A Little Less Talk and A Lot More Action. Southern comedies are Luann McLane’s specialty. She serves her books up just right with a plate of humor, romance and a good old time.

I've been asked before if I would let my teenage/almost adult daughter read my romance books.....I would start her off with this one. The young female characters are smart, strong, independent, witty and don't hide their emotions....everything I want for my own daughter. It's heavy on the romance but light on the sex. I found myself smiling and/or laughing outloud at some of the situations as if I were right there with them. I wanted to find a new author (big Lori Foster and Linda Lael Miller fan!!) and I can honestly say I'll be looking for more of McLane's titles in the future. There were a few characters I felt were left hanging.

Friends...

When Candie Montgomery reluctantly leaves a good job in Chicago to help save her family's failing used-car business, she's shocked to find that the townspeople of Pinewood, Kentucky—all 876 of them—are shunning her. Rumor has it that Candie's to blame for the broken engagement between her twin sister, Sarah, and her close friend Nick. But how can she be the other woman without even knowing it?

...Without the Benefits

With the family business, her reputation, and her relationship with Sarah on the line, Candie needs a boyfriend—pronto—to put a lid on the gossip. Damage control comes in the sexy form of Tommy Tucker. It was supposed to be a quick fix, but Candie might just be in it for the long haul.

Not one of my favorites by Luann, I was somewhat disappointed by this one, the characters had no sense of individuality or self-confidence...
And don't get me started on the word "doggone", I lost count!!
The story-line itself wasn't so bad, and if you can overlook the aforementioned issues it makes for an okay read.

Candie is returning home to help out with her family's used car dealership only to find out that her small Southern town believes she's behind the her sister's broken engagement to her former best friend Eric.

I wish there was a 2.5 star rating because while I didn't love the book, I still finished it! It was fun and full of crazy characters. Check out this author's hilarious and steamy Dancing Shoes and Honky-Tonky Blues, a fun parody of Dancing with the Stars.

Within the first few chapters, you can tell where this one is going to end up, but it's a fun road to travel with the characters... Girl is shunned by her hometown for being the "other woman" in her sister's failed relationship. Girl seeks out boy to pose as her boyfriend to deflect criticism. Girl pushes her sister and ex back together. Girl falls for fake boyfriend. Of course.

I liked this but it certainly wasn't her best book. Twin sisters try to save a car dealership in this book. One sister falls in love (Candi & Tommy) after faking a relationship. The other repairs a relationship all while tricking out trucks for the new dealership. Soft characters.

I read Luann McLane's He's No Prince Charming a couple weeks ago and loved it. This book didn't disappoint either. The crazy and yet completely believable adventures her characters get involved in are hilarious. Can't wait to read her other books. :)
