Dr John Philip Ray has taught history for forty years. In 1988 he retired from a large secondary school in Kent to undertake postgraduate research on Air Chief Marshall Sir Hugh Dowding and the Battle of Britain. His subsequent book The Battle of Britain: New Perspectives, published in 1994, sought to re-examine the complicated political and military background to that most important struggle. He is author of more than thirty earlier books, mostly for secondary school students preparing for examinations.

I really enjoyed this book. It was concise, yet quite thorough, giving step-by-step action of major campaigns and situations of WW2. With TONS of pictures!

I am puzzled about this book. I have found a few mistakes (the fight in Dunkirk). Pictures are not really related to the text or very far away. there is definitely a lack of a timeline displaying the various events in relation to each other.
on the positive side, the author explains the state of mind of the nations before the war, why this war happened, what could have been done to prevent it.
I regret the post war discussion as an appendix. The current consequences of this war could have been clearly displayed in a real chapter.
So a good book on a very interesting topic that is a good base to write something really excellent.
