For someone starting out in using data/analytics to make relevant decisions in organizations, this would be a good book. Due to me having dabbled in HR for over a decade, this book didn't offer too much that was new - but that's not the book's fault, it's just me.
Nevertheless, there are some great insights in there and in particular, cases like the Coca-Cola case are very relevant and useful in understanding how HR can use evidence to drive business impact and value.
Initially viewed as a Business Development book by Towers Watson that drops enough cliches to create interest but no in-depth practicality to explain (thus calling TW in to advise & sign an engagement)
Case examples are far more interesting (heavy hitter list) but seem to be more common sense than an evolution/transformation of HR; Onside w the five principles but are too reliant on Boudreau to justify
The book is full of great examples and brilliant case-studies from leading global organizations such as IBM, Coca-Cola, Royal Bank of Scotland, Deutsche Telekom, Ameriprise, Royal Bank of Canada, Khazanah Nasional Berhad etc. Overall, it’s a compelling read. It is for anyone who wants to bring rigorous thinking, informed decision-making and sustainable, impactful change in their organization.
This book was my third choice for SPHR Re-cert credit - uses case studies of companies such as PNC Bank, CME Group, Royal Bank of Scotland, Coca-Cola, IBM and others to illustrate how the principles of integration, synergy, and optimization need to be part of an HR department's strategic plan. A little dry, but the ideas were sound and within the evidence-based idea of management.
