Darren Shan (born July 2, 1972 in London, England) is the pen name of the Irish author Darren O'Shaughnessy, as well as the name of the protagonist of his book series The Saga of Darren Shan, also known as The Cirque Du Freak Series in the United States. He is the author of the series The Demonata, The Saga of Larten Crepsley, and Zom-B. He has also released the stand-alone novel, The Thin Executioner, and the stand-alone short novels, Koyasan, and Hagurosan. Plus, for adults, he released The City Trilogy (originally under the name of D.B. Shan), and Lady of the Shades..

Meine Meinung
Das Buch enthält wieder 3 weitere Romane rund um Darren Shan, der immer noch im Körper eines Kindes/Jugendlichen steckt, aber der schon einige Lebensjahre hinter sich hat. Auch hier gibt es vor der ersten und auch der zweiten Geschichte jeweils einen kleinen Zeitsprung. Darren ist ein Halbvampir, aber auch als Fürst ein wichtiger Bestandteil der Vampirgesellschaft. Er ist stark, mutig, lernfähig und entschlossen, hat aber in seinem Erschaffer Mr Crepsley mittlerweile einen guten Berater gefunden. Man merkt, dass er innerlich erwachsener geworden ist, was aber auch ein wenig durch die düstere Stimmung des Krieges notwendig ist. Es gibt ein Wiedersehen mit alten Bekannten und alten Orten, woran man deutlich merkt, wie viel Zeit nach den ersten Büchern wirklich vergangen ist, da Darren ja kaum altert. Es gibt auch diesmal überraschende Wendungen und Entwicklungen. Der Schreibstil ist angenehm und flüssig zu lesen.

Eine gelungene Fortsetzung, die mir ähnlich gut wie der Vorgänger gefallen hat, auch wenn er deutlich düsterer war. Dennoch konnte mich das Buch gut unterhalten, daher gibt es verdiente

Each of the books are pretty short, so going for these collections of three stories you’re getting much better value for your money and much more fun with each book.

Darren Shan is een halfvampier en tevens een vampierprins, de jongste ooit. Hij probeert de cultuur van zijn volk te leren, terwijl ze in een bloederige oorlog met de vampanezen zijn verwikkeld. Angsten steken bij iedereen de kop op nu een profetie voor de deur staat. Volgens meneer Tiny, vele jaren geleden, zou er een dag komen dat de Heer der Vampanezen op zou staan en zijn volk zou leiden, waarbij hij de vampiers weg zou vagen. Nu de oorlog is uitgebroken, bezoekt meneer Tiny weer de Vampierberg en biedt de vampiers een laatste strohalm. Er zijn vier kansen voor de vampiers om het tij te keren, maar er zijn slechts drie uitverkoren vampiers die daaraan mogen werken. Darren is een van hen. Samen met de andere twee vampiers en Harkat Mulds, een klein mens, gaat hij op pad. Maar zullen ze de kansen wel zien als die zich aandienen?

De kwaliteit blijft
Net als de eerdere delen is ook deze trilogie van goede kwaliteit. De schrijfstijl is prettig, de personages zijn goed uitgewerkt, de plot is aantrekkelijk en vooral de sfeer blijft geweldig. Het zijn donkere tijden voor de vampiers. Manipulatie, bedrog, verraad en angst vechten met hoop, eer, loyaliteit en moed. De hele vampierwereld staat op zijn kop en Darren ziet de veranderingen. En ook bij de vampanezen wijzigen vele zaken. De auteur werkt hen in deze trilogie beter uit en laat ook zien welke gevolgen de komst van de Heer der Vampanezen voor hen heeft. Het lijkt erop dat voor iedereen – vampier, vampanees en mens – er duistere tijden zijn aangebroken. Deze beklemming, deze angst maakt van Schemerjager-trilogie een echte pageturner die huiverend in bed kan lezen. De auteur spaart zijn personages immers niet, dus wie sterft, wie overleeft en wie blijft hangen in het schimmige gebied van trauma’s?

***ENGLISH REVIEW BELOW***

Man, oh man, dit boek gaf me echt een adrenaline kick op het einde. Ik kon me dat deel niet herinneren, ook al heb ik het boek wel al eens eerder gelezen. Het was verschrikkelijk, op een goede manier. Meneer Crepsley ging dood. En toen niet. En toen wel. En toen niet. En toen WEL. Dat was verschrikkelijk voor mijn hart. Ik ben echt verdrietig dat hij dood is, hij en zijn relatie met Darren waren een paar van mijn favoriete delen van de serie. Plus, nu weet ik niet of we ooit te weten zullen komen waarom hij Darren heeft gekozen. Alhoewel, wie weet wat meneer Tiny nog van plan is... Het begin van het boek was een beetje langzaam, naar mijn mening, maar het einde maakte dat goed. Hoewel sommige dingen misschien een beetje te makkelijk waren, maar ach ja. We kregen ook weer wat bekende gezichten te zien, dat was leuk. En er was ook een beetje romantiek, niets zoals ik gewend ben, maar dat is logisch gezien dit een kinderboek is en het is natuurlijk prima, want ik ben deze serie niet aan het lezen voor de romantiek haha. Wat betref de Heer der Vampanezen... Ik zag de onthulling wel aankomen, maar ik was wel een beetje van het spoor af toen Steve zo aardig deed in het begin. En ik hoopte ook dat ik het verkeerd had... Ik hoop nog steeds dat hij niet compleet slecht is, want dat is niet een goede boodschap om te geven, denk ik. En ik hou altijd van verhalen waarin de slechterik zich weer bekeert. Oh, en ik zag V.W.'s terugkeer totaal niet aankomen, trouwens haha. Een super goed boek, en ik heb nu super veel zin om verder te gaan in het volgende boek! (En blijkbaar niet de laatste, want ik kwam er net achter dat er ook een hele serie over meneer Crepsley is!)

Man oh man, this book really gave me an adrenaline kick at the end. Even though I have read it before, I really didn't remember this part. It was terrible, in a good way. Mr. Crepsley died. And then he didn't. And then he did. And then he didn't. And then HE DID. That was terrible for my heart. I'm really sad he's gone, he and his relationship to Darren were some of my favorite parts of the series. Plus now I don't know if we'll ever get to know why he picked Darren. Though, then again, who knows what Mr. Tiny might be planning... The start of the book was a bit slow, in my opinion, but the ending made up for it. Although some things might have been a bit too convenient, but oh well. We also got to see some familiar characters again, which was nice. And there was a little romance, too, though nothing like I'm used to, which it's logical considering this is a children's book and which is totally fine, because I'm not reading this series for the romance haha. As for the Vampaneze Lord... I did see the reveal coming, though I was a bit thrown off by Steve acting nice in the beginning. And I was hoping that I was wrong... I'm still hoping he's not completely evil, because that's not really a good message to give I'd think. Plus I always love redemption stories. Oh, and I totally didn't see V.W.'s return coming, though, haha. A great book, which left me very excited to continue on to the next one! (And apparently not the last one, because I just found out that there's a whole series about Mr. Crepsley, too!

This series is getting better and better as I read on. It has me emotionally invested in the characters the further it goes along, and I'm genuinely sad that there's only 3 books left.

Darren Shan is a devious writer. The twist at the end...how there was hope and then it was swept from under my feet...the ending has left me an emotional wreck.

But don't let that deter you, this trilogy has been the best so far of this series, and I can't wait to read the final trilogy.

Bueno ya he terminado el último libro de la historia de Darren Shan y como el anterior, me ha atrapado por completo. Todo el libro en general es muy ameno, con las batallas cotra sus enemigos de siempre "los vampanez" y sus ayudantes "los vampets". Después de querrear en muchas ocasiones saben que tienen que matar al "señor de los vampanez" y entonces se acabaran las batallas; en cuanto a esto el final me ha sorprendido muuucho, pero tendréis que leerlo para saber cómo es ¿ok?

No Wolves in this one so no extra star. Enjoyable and fast paced but not unpredictable. Even the twist at the end was obvious since they kept harking back to Steve and Darren's relationship.
Probably more of a twist if you don't read a lot of this type of book and haven't read a lot of Shan's other books.

هفـت: تا جلد قبلی هر کتاب تقریباً موضوع خودش را داشت و حتی می‌شد با کمی ارفاق آن‌ها را جداگانه خواند اما این جلد وسط یک ماجرا است. خود این جلد فقط یک آشنایی است با شخصیت‌های تازه و مسیری که دارن و بقیه برای از بین بردن دشمنان‌شان پیش‌رو دارند.

هشت: اوضاع دارد خرتوخرتر می‌شود. اینکه هر بار یک سری شخصیت‌های تازه روبرو می‌شود جالب است. برگشتن به شهری که قبلاً بوده و مواجه شدن با اینکه مثل بقیه عادی نیست برایم ناراحت‌کننده بود. یعنی اینکه شبیه بقیه بزرگ نشده بود انگار داشت از بقیه جا می‌ماند. مدرسه هم که دشمن همیشگی همۀ ما است در این قصه حضور دارد. جنگ دارد نزدیک‌ نزدیک‌تر می‌شود.

نه: انتظار این پایان را داشتم. در واقع مثل همیشه سرنخ‌های تابلویی دارن شانِ نویسنده بهمان داده بود که بفهمیم پایانش چیه و اینکه می‌خواهد من را شگفت‌زده کند خوشم نمی‌آید چون الکی شلوغ‌بازی است و حتی یک جورهایی انگار اصل داشت را دارد خراب می‌کند. نمی‌فهمم چرا آدم بد قصه بقیه را نکشت و گذاشت یک جلد کامل را بخوانیم؟ شاید هم چیزی را از قلم انداختم. خلاصه اینکه مرگ و بدبختی و اینکه حالا کل شهر هم با تو دشمن باشند از نکات خوب قصه بود و این پروبال‌ دادن‌های شانِ نویسنده را دوست دارم که انگار کم نمی‌گذارند و هر چی به ذهنش می‌رسد می‌نویسد.
