Although this book would seem dated, 1969, it is far from it. The author, Nancy Larrick, was the form president of the International Reading Society. She knows the classics for children. The books listed in this book are all for self reading by the child. The book is expertly graded by age group for the readers. It also features a superb index to help parents find their own favorite children's books.
great book that explains how important it is to include a child in the conversation. it is not just about hearing words but about talking back, learning to express herself.
Many better books have been written on the subject: Books Children Love by Wilson, Read-Aloud Handbook by Trelease, and Honey for a Child's Heart by Hunt are just a few of them.
