Morgan Roberts, AKA Captain Sinister, dreams of leaving the sea and running away to farm, but when the Zephyr comes across a damaged ship wallowing in the Florida Straits, it's just too good an opportunity for any self-respecting privateer to pass up.

Amanda Stephenson is a widow traveling from Yorkshire to Charleston in the 1820's to set up her soap-making business. It's a grand adventure, just as she's always dreamed—until her ship is boarded by the crew of the Zephyr. Amanda’s plans for her future do not include large, hairy, uncouth pirates.

Morgan Roberts has his work cut out for him, but he's prepared to try his most piratical tricks if it will convince the luscious widow to become Captain Sinister's Lady.

It is with this review that I realized, and must acknowledge, an error in a previous review. I thought Sea Change was Marshall’s first novel. No idea why I had that perception, as publication dates are pretty straight forward, but this revelation leaves me pondering my previous observations. What the Parrot Saw is my favourite novel in that series on account of character complexity and elegant use of historical context. This novel, Captain Sinister (and Florida Pirates series) was written prior to Sea Change, and I am now befuddled by what appears to be a regression of literary quality to more light hearted farce. I admit the failings of my sense of humour, and therein I justify my enjoyment of this novel and Pirate’s Price far more than the beginning novels of the High Seas Series.
Mattie (from Parrot) remains Marshall’s strongest female character that I have read to date, but Mandy’s pluck and independence make her the runner up. I very much enjoyed the fairy tale plot device, and applaud the name of the title character. I see from other reviews that some were a bit put off by Morgan’s physically (and technically also emotionally) brutish nature, but I reckon your imagination will concoct an attractive image in alignment with your preferences if you will it to.
Onto The Bride and the Buccaneer, and then it seems I will have to switch authors having consumed the lot of Marshall’s current offerings.

Couldn't finish the book. By the time they get together, there is at least 40 pages left and it's pretty obvious what will happen. Not to mention, the amount of hair on captain sinister's body is bigfoot-ish. Or chewbacca. or Cousin It.

For some reason when I finished the book I felt like it didn't make much of an impression. All in all it was an OK read
