This book provides a solid and brief background in a functional/linguistic approach to grammar. It includes many concrete ideas for teaching this slightly to moderately different approach. The first half is theory (and ideas) and the second half focuses on application. I'm not sold on their calendar for instruction, but like the accessible nature of the lesson sequencing.
This book ha a lot of creative ideas about teaching grammar. I liked how much they focused on teaching and using the correct terminology in grammar. This book is geared toward 6-12th grade teachers, but I picked up some good ideas to use with my elementary school students.
