There may be no need to update a fairy tale, but when the themes and ideas are so timeless, it’s hard to resist.
This collection of rewritten fairy tales about love does just that. Wander through the Beast’s Central Park castle, or learn what Sleeping Beauty dreams about. Discover how modern mermaids entrance their mates. Meet the woman who loved the giant at the top of the beanstalk. Along the way, find a newly written fairy tale or two the Grimms would have loved to hear.
The ten stories in Once & Now explore the many ways love and magic might exist in our world. Dive in, and find yourself in tales both familiar and wonderfully new.
This selection of short stories based on fairy tales was a good read. There were some really interesting stories in it. I think my favorite was "Apples." But they were all good.
And another I liked was the formatting. That may seem like a trite thing to like, but a lot of ebooks out there aren't as formatted as well as they could be and it makes the reading experience choppy. This one was nicely done.
I won this book on goodreads.com. I already love fairy tales, and this book was amazing. I enjoyed seeing what people came up with for modern day fairytales. Some where more like just modified fairy tales, but all of the stories were fun to read. I especially like the one titled "Fee", which is based on Jack and the Beanstalk. It was told from a point of view I never thought of and it was just really exciting. I also like how in the book it told you which fairy tale each modern one was based on.
Updated fairy tales. Some really excellent stories, and some that didn't work for me, or seemed to miss the point. The original fairy tale by Shelly Nysewander was one of my favourites.
