Returning to the fan-favorite world of Promise Lodge, the small-town Missouri setting for her beloved Amish inspirational romance novels, Charlotte Hubbard charms readers with a Mother’s Day themed tale perfect for fans of Shelley Shepard Gray and Beth Wiseman!
A season of change has blessed the Amish of Missouri’s Promise Lodge, as mothers-to-be anticipate the arrival of their little miracles and one young man’s life is about to take an unexpected turn as he sheds his bad boy reputation and embraces the value of faith and hard work.
Long-time residents of Promise Lodge welcome a wave of newcomers that includes a pretty potter who’s come to help an expectant couple, and a hard-working dairy expert ready to manage the herds on the expanding Burkholder farm. Then there’s Isaac Chupp, the handsome, charming son of a notoriously unyielding Bishop from nearby Coldstream. Isaac has recklessly rebelled against his dat, and his bad boy reputation precedes him. Now he seeks a fresh start, applying for work at Dale Kraybill’s bulk store.
Proving himself reliable while Dale takes off for his wedding trip is Isaac’s bold first step. But more miraculous awakenings may come as he settles into the warm new light of the faithful community. And while Promise Lodge celebrates an abundance of newborns as summer turns to fall, Isaac discovers a kindred soul who has her own share of challenges. In helping her, he just may find his true purpose in loving selflessly, building up, and giving back . . .
Drawing upon her experiences in Jamesport, the largest Old Order Amish community west of the Mississippi, longtime Missourian Charlotte Hubbard (a.k.a. Naomi King) writes of simpler times and a faith-based lifestyle in her new Seasons of the Heart series. Like her heroine, Miriam Lantz, Charlotte considers it her personal mission to feed people—to share hearth and home. Faith and family, farming and food preservation are hallmarks of her lifestyle, and the foundation of her earlier Angels of Mercy series. She’s a deacon, a dedicated church musician and choir member, and when she’s not writing, she loves to try new recipes, crochet, and sew. Charlotte now lives in Minnesota with her husband and their border collie.
Charlotte Hubbard is now on my author radar and she will have me running to every book she releases and MIRACLES AT PROMISE LODGE is exactly why. When it was over, I wanted to keep reading and stay in the characters business. I was giggling, laughing out loud and even holding back tears as I watched each of the characters grow. Charlotte Hubbard pulls you right in to all of their lives and once you start, you won’t be able to put this wonderful story down. As an added bonus, Charlotte includes recipes in the back of the book. I would love to be able to visit MIRACLES AT PROMISE LODGE and indulge in some of these wonderful recipes.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Fresh Fiction. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I’m sorry to see the Promise Lodge stories end since this wonderful setting and characters seem so real and fun to visit. The author does a great job crafting heart-tugging tales. Along with the regular residents we love, we get to know new characters who move to Promise Lodge. This novel involves several young couples with developing relationships—some a surprise connection. However, they all seem to get too carried away physically—something I prefer not to read in detail. I prefer the conservative characters who wait until the wedding to express physical affection. Still, I wish this wonderful series, which is best read in order, would continue. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own. #MiraclesatPromiseLodge #NetGalley
*****I received this ARC free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
A beautiful story of how even when mistakes have been made in your youth you can make a good life for. I really enjoyed the positive messages in this book.
Miracles at Promise Lodge is Hubbard's eighth and final book in the Promise Lodge series, so this was a bittersweet read for me, as I've read the previous seven books, and the characters in them almost feel like family to me!
This is mainly the story of bad boy Isaac Chupp and ditzy Maria, who both come to Promise Lodge looking for a new start. Will Isaac be able to prove to this community that he's turned over a new leaf? And will Maria be brave enough to re-open her fire-damaged bakery? And will these two people decide that they can't live without each other, or that they can't live with each other?
I enjoyed meeting new characters and reconnecting with old ones in ths book. The thing I didn't care for in this story was that there were some refereences to and inuendos about sex in this story. To me, this was an unnecessary part of this story. This is the reason I gave it t three-star rating.
Thank you to #KensingtonBooks and #NetGalley for an advance e-pub of this book.

I wanted to add this quote in because it's one of the first lessons of this book that everyone has to learn besides just the one character. A sincere apology can go a long way for sure and certain. So can forgiveness which is the hardest part because of one's pride. “God bless you, and gut luck,” the bishop said with a nod. “If your apology doesn’t go the way you want it to, be patient and try again, Isaac. Life is a road, and every step along the way is a lesson.”“And if you choose not to ask Vera for forgiveness,” warned Preacher Amos, “we’ll be hearing your confession at church next Sunday, so the congregation can vote on your penance.” Here's another quote I loved “My hatred would eat me away from the inside out, while it probably wouldn’t even faze you. I’ve chosen to let it go, and to let God be in charge. If we all could do that think how the world would be a different place! This is why I admired Vera. She knows who has control and chose to give it to Him. Not other people. Hate does eat away at you. It never affects the other person only you. Issac I wasn't too sure about in the beginning. I only thought that he came back to cause more trouble. But, there's still hope.for him yet. He's a hard headed one that one. It's going to take a hard lesson for him to learn of he ever does. In a way I kind of feel sorry for him. Because generally all that starts in the home. For Issac it was his dad and that's all I'm going to say about that one. I don't want to ruin it for others. But I think other readers will figure it put. I love this cover! It's my favorite color!

But more miraculous awakenings may come as he settles into the warm new light of the faithful community. And while Promise Lodge celebrates an abundance of newborns as summer turns to fall, Isaac discovers a kindred soul who has her own share of challenges. This is Ezra Overholt's story. Isaac Chupp apply for work at Dale Kraybill’s bulk store. Vera a pretty potter who’s come to help an expectant couple. As Isaac Chupp entered the bulk store at Promise Lodge, he was immediately aware of how bright and clean it was—and that all the aisles ran perpendicular to the checkout counter. Compared to Coldstream’s tired old market, it was a step into the twenty-first century: the glass-front refrigerator units and overhead lights were electric, and their radiance was reflected in large mirrors that covered the upper walls. The owner, Dale Kraybill, was Mennonite— And he’s savvy. From the checkout counter, he can see everyone in his store. In the mirrors, Isaac noted that several shoppers, Plain and English alike, were pushing carts along the well-stocked aisles. While the storekeeper helped a young woman in an Amish-style kapp set up a display of the most colorful pottery dishes he’d ever seen. Vera, your pottery will fly off the shelves. Kraybill said to the young woman. Vera blushed modestly at Kraybill’s compliment. “Denki, Dale, you’re very kind,” she said in a low voice. “You’ve given me quite an opportunity to display my work.” I recommend reading. Miracles at promise lodge by Charlotte Hubbard is a 4 star book. I am looking forward to reading more books by Charlotte Hubbard. Return to Promise Lodge, an Amish community in Missouri, where mothers-to-be are anticipating the arrival of their little miracles, one young man's life takes an unexpected turn, and a former Promise Lodge resident's return creates disruption.
Miracles at Promise Lodge by Charlotte Hubbard is another fascinating Amish novel about family, faith, forgiveness, and the joy of being surrounded by a supportive community.
Isaac Chupp arrives at Promise Lodge to interview with Dale Kraybill as a store clerk. But his bad boy reputation has preceded him. The youngest son of the overbearing bishop from Coldstream caused a great deal of harm to Rosetta Wickey, Christine Burkholder, and Deborah Peterscheim when they all lived in Coldstream, but Dale is willing to give him a chance since it seems like Isaac is trying to turn over a new leaf.
Upon his arrival, Isaac meets Vera Brubaker, who has come to help her aunt, who has been put on bed rest in the hopes of avoiding another miscarriage. He is quickly taken by the sweet, shy Vera, who sells her pottery in Dale's store. But when she catches the eye of Ezra Overholt, Isaac's overreaction causes issues that could ruin the new image he's working toward.
When Maria Zehr returns to Promise Lodge in a panic, the Kuhn sisters do their best to help her. However, Maria hasn't changed since she left Promise Lodge to open her bakery in Cloverdale, and it creates friction for the residents of the Lodge. When another kindred spirit decides to step in, he might just get the chance to find his purpose.
Wow! This is such wonderful addition to the Promise Lodge series. There is a ton going on with young couples in love, weddings, babies, newcomers, family challenges, Isaac trying to rebuild his reputation, and Maria returning to Promise Lodge. But under Hubbard's masterful hand, all these plots and subplots are woven together seamlessly to create an engaging story that has the reader turning page after page.
Fans of the Promise Lodge series will be thrilled to see the continued growth of this tight-knit Amish community in Miracles at Promise Lodge. Favorite characters' storylines continue, while new characters' stories unfold. The must read Epilogue wraps up some storylines, but leaves room for future ideas. And, readers are treated to more yummy recipes from the Promise Lodge kitchen.
Though Miracles at Promise Lodge can be read by itself, I encourage fans of Amish fiction, family-focused fiction, inspirational fiction, and those who enjoy masterfully-told stories to invest time in reading the entire Promise Lodge series.
Heartwarming romance at its best is what you can expect from Charlotte Hubbard!
I have read several of Charlotte Hubbard's previous book & always enjoyed them. I didn't realize this was part of a series when I began reading it. This could be why I was somewhat confused with all of the characters. I had to keep going back to check on who was was but once I became engrossed in the storyline, it was very entertaining.
I have read many Amish books in the past and this was one of the reasons I wanted to read this one. I enjoy their way of life. This book also compares some of the more Amish traditions along with Mennonite traditions. Since this book also has a Missouri setting, I was even more anxious to read it since I am born and raised in Missouri.
In this book, Isaac Chupp is looking for a fresh start in Promise Lodge. He has had a somewhat reckless reputation as he has rebelled against his upbringing and his father who is a strict Amish Bishop in a nearby community. He lands in Promise Lodge with a job helping to take care of a bulk store owned by Dale who has just married his sweetheart and wants to take her on a wedding trip. Isaac has to prove himself reliable & prove that he has changed. He doesn't do a very good job as he becomes enamored with another local & tries to push himself on her. After that fiasco, he has to work even harder to prove himself not only to Dale but also to others in the community that he has previously wronged. This is a story of forgiveness and redemption with lots of twists and turns.
Once I was able to sort out all of the characters, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was given a copy of this book by the publisher Kensington Books and the author. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who enjoys reading Amish or Christian books as this is a wholesome read.
Miracles at Promise Lodge by Charlotte Hubbard takes us back to the quaint community of Promise Lodge. It was great to catch up with the characters that started the community and who have moved into it since its creation. I like that it is a community started by women (I wonder if the Amish will ever allow women to be deacons or bishops). Isaac has come to Promise Lodge for a fresh start. Unfortunately, members of his old community live in the area and are fully aware of his misdeeds. Isaac has a temper as well as impulse control issues. There is one scene that I found particularly troubling with Isaac. It can be a trigger for individuals who have been abused or assaulted. Maria Zehr’s arrival is quite vociferous, and the timing is inopportune. Maria is a piece of work. I would not have had the patience to deal with her. I like Vera. She is a kind, forgiving young woman. Vera is also artistic and allowed to express her creativity through her pottery. It was good to see Dale and Irene so happy. Jealousy and envy were two of the themes in the story. Faith was nicely woven into the story. It is great how the people who live in Promise Lodge help each other and are welcoming to new people (I wish all communities were like that). I like the author’s writing style (makes the story easy to read). There is good plot and character development. I have read all the books in the series, so I am familiar with the characters and the setting. New readers would not have that knowledge (it is best to read the series in order). One of my favorite phrases from the book is, “One of the best things about the Bible is the way we can read a passage again and again throughout our lives, yet those verses can take on a different meaning—often depending upon our circumstances.” I look forward to my next visit to Promise Lodge.
Charlotte Hubbard has previously taken her readers on seven visits to her fictional Missouri community of Promise Lodge for a fascinating series of stories in this setting that falls a little outside your typical Amish settlement. On this eighth, and final, visit -- Miracles at Promise Lodge -- she brings back together a wide range of the characters and events from those other visits, along with a few new folks and experiences, to build a forward-moving story rich in hope, forgiveness, and second chances. Weddings are celebrated. New babies are anticipated. New and renewed dreams are accomplished. I don't think you can finish this story without a sense of good things yet to come, things that never would have been expected a few years earlier when this simple community was established.
As always, the characters jump to life off the pages, and their stories tie together into a very well-done book. I highly recommend Miracles at Promise Lodge to fans of Amish inspirational novels. It will be most enjoyed, though, if you have read the entire series in order.
Thanks to the author for providing me a digital copy of the book through NetGalley. I was happy to share my own thoughts in this review.
Miracles at Promise Lodge by Charlotte Hubbard, book eight in her Promise Lodge series, is an entertaining, sweet, tender and endearing read with moments of faith, moments that had me pondering and reflecting, and even moments that were totally unexpected, which caused a tad bit of surprise and shock. Promise Lodge is an Amish community in Missouri, where mothers-to-be are anticipating the arrival of their little miracles, one young man's life takes an unexpected turn, and a former Promise Lodge resident's return creates disruption. Although I enjoyed catching up with characters from earlier in the series, once the new characters were added in, I struggled a bit to keep everyone and their stories straight. Still, in all, it was an enjoyable Amish novel about family, faith, forgiveness, and the joy of being surrounded by a supportive community.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Promise Lodge is the place to go and live. The townsfolk are welcoming while the weather can be a challenge. Spring has sprung. Many mothers to be are anticipating the births of their babies. With a plethora of newcomers and the weather changing, Promise Lodge is the picture of a thriving community. Will bad boy Isaac Chupp be able to shed his reputation in order to find a new start? Filling in for Dale Kraybill while he is on his honeymoon, Isaac finds temptations and his road to redemption hard. When he starts to help ditzy Maria find her purpose, Isaac may just find his. I have always loved how Ms. Hubbard writes this community to show compassion and love but also not afraid to use tough love. The characters as usual make one turn the pages, laugh, and cry. I received a copy through Netgalley. A review was not required.
Miracles at Promise Lodge is a very inspirational story written by Charlotte Hubbard. This entire series was fantastic and I am sad to see it end. The characters have become like family and watching them grow to all kinds of trials make them even more realistic. I have enjoyed each message that was delivered through each story and how when you put your faith in God anything is possible. Thank you Charlotte Hubbard for sharing your amazing writing style and story telling with all of us. May God continue to guide your life like he did with your characters. I will miss Promise Lodge.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I am posting my honest review without being asked. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.
I enjoyed this book for a few reasons. Number 1- this author is familiar to me, so the characters are familiar to me. I would recommend reading her previous books! Number 2- it deals with some pretty common issues like envy and physical intimacy. Number 3- it does focus a lot on faith in God!
Isaac was hard to like. He's brash, impulsive, and running from God. However, he soon starts to work on his faults and become a better man. Vera is wonderful! I love her forgiving spirit, her artistic style, and her willingness to lend a hand.
Promise Lodge is a place I'd love to visit! The sense of community is refreshing, and everyone who lives there is committed to helping others.
I was provided a copy of the book from Zebra Books via Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Miracles at Promise Lodge is an entertaining read. Along with the moments that had me smiling were moments that were sweet. tender and endearing, moments of faith, moments that had me pondering and reflecting, and even moments that were totally unexpected, which caused a tad bit of surprise and shock. However, this made for a good mix that added much to the story. Although I enjoyed catching up with characters from earlier in the series, once the new characters were added in, I struggled a bit to keep everyone and their stories straight. Still, in all, it was an enjoyable story.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book. All comments and opinions are voluntary and completely my own.
I have never read a book by Charlotte Hubbard before. I enjoy Amish books and intro stated perfect for fans of Shelley Shepard Gray and Beth Wiseman.
This is not the first book in the series and I did feel a bit lost with the back stories.
I felt like the book was a bit all over the place with the different story lines. Again, this could be because it’s in a series and I am not familiar with the past books. It wasn’t like other Amish books I have read, it was a bit more advanced for Amish.
I think I would like to start from the beginning to see if I can get a better feel for the characters.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley, opinions express in this review are completely my own.
Miracles at Promise Lodge by Charlotte Hubbard ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is book 8th in The Promise Lodge series. Many reader read this as stand alone, however I feel it should be read in order, you will feel like you missed a lot.
We meet many new characters and challenges in this book. Some good, some not so much. You also discover more about differences between The Amish and The Mennonite. Lots of happy weddings, babies, as well as faith and forgiveness. When as else fails remember it takes A Village to live a happily ever after.
I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review. Pre-order your copy today. Releases Feb 20th, and continue the journey to The Promise Lodge.
If I read correctly, this is the final Promise Lodge book. I have enjoyed reading about all the people at Promise Lodge and getting to revisit many of them in this story. As soon as I read the name, Isaac Chupp, in the first line of the book, I thought the name sounded so familiar. I quickly discovered that it was. Throughout the story, I was about equal parts rooting for him and wishing he would go far away. I could not help but feel sorry for him at times because of who his father was. The father was a primary reason that three sisters left the Coldstream district and started Promise Lodge years earlier. I have to wonder what would have become of me if I had had a father like Bishop Obadiah Chupp. Overall, the story was very uplifting and encouraging.
This is a sweet story of Isaac, whose past seems to be his identity and how he is seen by others. As he takes a job which requires the trust of others, some things are very hard for Isaac and he doesn't always make the best decisions. He makes a mistake and has to work things out, which can be difficult. I loved Maria, despite her many annoying flaws. She added lots of color and "action" to the story. I enjoyed reading about the characters from earlier Promise Lodge books. All the characters were fun to read about and the story line was well developed I enjoyed this book very much. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Such a wonderful story about the residents of Promise Lodge. New births to arrive, a bad boy returning to the fold he once rebelled against, and several fresh faces added to the mix. This book captured my interest from the first chapter till the very end. I laughed, cried, and routed along with the residents of this quaint small town hoping they all get their HEA.
As this was the first time I was reading about the residents of Promise Lodge there were some details I was not too familiar with, however I plan to back track and read the whole series as I absolutely adore this small town and its people.
I received an ARC from the publishers and NetGalley and submit my honest review.
The last in the series Miracles at Promise Lodge was a page turner. A troubled youth Isaac applies for a job thinking no one from Promise Lodge would know of his misdeeds. He spends a lot of time trying to remake himself. It proves to be a hard road.
I loved the forgiveness, the second chances, and the hard work of all the charactors. I also loved the romance, the couples are not who I thought would pair up for sure. I guess the one part I didn't like is the suggestion of the .. heat in the romance. I'd rather not hear about that part.
Otherwise a great read.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Having read some but not all of the books in this series I was surprised by the content in the book. Many thoughts and conversations involving lust and more. I have read plenty of books by the author and the books didn't contain this kind of material. I am disappointed. The book was written as if it were a regular contemporary novel but with Amish characters. The writing was disjointed. Bring back the Amish books from when they were first being written, the characters had respect for themselves and their community. I cannot recommend this book.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are mine.
Miracles at Promise Lodge by Charlotte Hubbard allows us to take a return visit to the Amish of the Missouri’s Promise Lodge community and catch up with the happenings in the lives of familiar friends there. Although you could read this as a standalone book, I personally feel you would enjoy it more if you read the other books in this series.
The plot and character development is just amazing. Ms. Hubbard moves from one event in this novel to another with seamless storytelling.
Loved being able to travel with Isaac on his journey from being the Amish bad boy, to becoming someone with a new understanding of the importance of a purpose in life. Vera is wonderful. You love her from the start. She is a very talented young pottery trying to discover her place in a community. We also welcome a few more new members to this unique Amish community.
I highly recommend this 5-star addition to the Promise Lodge series.
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Zebra, and was not required to give a positive review.
I haven't read anything by this author before so I'm not sure if that put me at a disadvantage. There were so many characters for me to get acquainted with that it made it difficult to follow along for the majority of the book. I didn't really connect with any of the characters in the book either and found some of the subjects that I didn't enjoy.
Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.
The author and the Promise Lodge series was new to me, I have read each book and each one hasn't disappointed. From the first book to this last one, the story continues with the three sister who bought the lodge and those who moved there. In this book Issac Chupp, the bad seed from Coldstream comes in hopes that they will give him a job and a fresh start. There is plenty of people who are leary of the bishops son that caused so much heartache. There are lessons learned, love to be found and most of all forgiveness. You won't be disappointed. I received a complimentary copy of this book, opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This was a good book, I enjoyed reading. It had new characters as well as old ones from previous books. I did have to stay with it and keep up, because it seem like alot was going on but it could have been from wrapping up the series. All in all I thought it was a good book and thought it ended well. I was given this book by Netgalley and was not required to leave a review. #Netgalley #CharlotteHubbard #ZebraBooks #PromiseLodgeSeries.
Maybe it would’ve made a difference if I read the other books in the series first (didn’t realize it was #8) but it took me almost half of the book to get down all of the names of side characters. It was also confusing that people like Dale and Rosetta randomly were the focus on the narration, when normally it was Isaac, Maria, Vera and Ezra. Not my favorite but a pretty clean romance that others might like.
Ms. Hubbard wrote the next novel in her Promise Lodge series. I enjoyed the thought of our 'anti-heroes' that repeatedly try to make the world bend to their wants truly learning life. As always, her books are quite enjoyable; this one I felt need a few more scenes with each group to explain their growth. With that said, it's still a wonderful read.
Readers will always be winners when reading about the folks at Promise Lodge. Although there are a lot of characters this book and the others in the series individualizes the characters and their own circumstances. The broken are made whole and that's what community is about.
