Omegas are to be protected; to be kept safe. They’re not meant to work!
The world thinks that Omegas are only good for taking a knot and for their inevitable heats. They’re meant to be locked away from the world, unseen. They’re told tales about Omega’s being abducted and sold, forced to live every horror one can imagine.
With the help of my father—the lead scientist for a pharmaceutical company—I’ve managed to hide my designation since I was a small child. This has allowed me to live in the world without the prejudice, restrictions put on omegas ‘to keep them safe’, and to keep me from being hunted.
But I don’t want to be safe. Despite the danger, all I've ever wanted was to play hockey.
Because of the experimental drug cocktail, I’ve made it five years in the NHL. My name is known amongst hockey fans. I’m on billboards and cereal boxes. I have my own athletic brand. Not because I’m a precious omega, but because I’m an amazing athlete. Everything is going perfectly.
Until the medication suddenly stops working during the middle of a string of away games and I’m plunged into the beginnings of a heat. When my roommate walks in and finds me in my precarious situation, there’s no way he can miss my perfume filling the room.
What’s worse? We’ve already been toying with the boundaries of our friendship, hesitant to make the move to something more. The attraction between us is impossible to miss, but I have a secret. I’ve been in love with him since I was drafted to the team. The only thing that’s kept me away is the threat of him discovering my designation.
Now he knows, we’re a thousand miles from home, and I’m about to go into heat. There’s no way my team will miss me for a week or more, right?
I’m not even sure it matters. My secret’s out. One of his would-be packmates is a very angry threat to my future. If I’m exposed, I can kiss my career goodbye.

This is a polyamorous story (though it will be HEAVY mm) with content not intended for those under 18 years of age due to graphic scenes and situations.
Crea lives in upstate New York with her dog and husband. She has been writing since grade school, when her second grade teacher had her class keep writing journals. She has a habit of creating secondary, and often time tertiary, characters that take over her stories. When she can't fall asleep at night, she thinks up new scenes for her characters to act out. This, of course, is how most of her meant-to-be-thrown-away characters tend to end up front and center - and utterly swoon-worthy! Don't ask her how many book boyfriends she has...
When not writing, Crea is an avid reader. Her TBR pile is several hundred books high (don't even look at her kindle wish list or the unread books on her tablet). Sometimes, she enjoys crafting; sometimes, exploring nature; sometimes, traveling. Mostly, she enjoys putting her characters on paper and breathing life into them. Oh, and sleeping. Crea loves to sleep!
Get Pucking Knotty is an entertaining omegaverse story with a fresh spin on this concept. Romy is an omega masquerading as a beta so he can play hockey and his close primal relationship with a teammate takes a steamy turn as his designation starts to become known.
Romy and Emeryk's relationship is the perfect throughline for this story. Their devotion to one another is wonderful to see given all of its complications. I enjoyed getting to see them both work through all of the hurdles set against them and see their HEA slowly but surely come through. Overall such a fun and refreshing story.
*** I reviewed a complimentary copy of this story.***
Another queer novel by the lovely Crea that does NOT use the trauma of being outed or coming out as the plot of the book just because it has queer relationships in it! Y’all seriously don’t know how much I love that.
This was primarily about Emeryk and Romy but also about their relationship with their pack, albeit sexual or friendly. I loved how supportive and caring they all were. I love that a woman was included and welcome.
The conflict in the story was very believable! It's in the same universe as one of the authors previous books but you absolutely do not need to read them. (I read it a couple years ago and don't remember much and had no issues here.) The antagonists were needed for the protagonists' growth as well as to show that despite how much we may want/try to change them, some people are too stuck in their ways or mindset.
Some of the texts that are in the beginning of the chapters are quite funny and cute and some are confusing lol. I wish we got to see more of the development through the actual story and not only through a few texts between the characters.
As always, I love the poly and queer rep that Crea Reitan writes. It feels the most authentic and respectful out of any of the romance books I've read!
Hockey Romance wasn’t usually my thing, but I’ve jumped on the wagon (or ice 😆) and read a few recently, including this author’s work. So I was looking forward to an Omegaverse story with ice. What I got was really a MM story on ice (and throw in a pack in waiting!) Don’t get me wrong it’s a great story, but when you don’t really include the characters that aren’t meant to be added until later, and just and concentrate on just two, I left a little disappointed. (But only as I know how this authors Omegaverse works, but that my opinion)
Romy is a great ice hockey player, but he hides a secret, Romy is an omega! So! I hear you say, but when an omega is ONLY suppose to stay home and be protected and cared for, Romy is courting not only Alpha’s anger (it’s in an alpha’s nature to protect an omega) but he endangers himself as omega (they have been kidnapped/sold and just used and abused by alphas!) but his father knew Romy wanted to be a hockey player from an early age, he created a “vitamin” that suppressed urges/heats/scents that come with being an omega.
Emeryk is an alpha who loves his job as a goalie for his team. Now I liked he was a goalie and not the star goal scorer (so many have them in that role) but saying that he’s at the top of his game, not many puck’s get past him. He has a pack eating for him to retire, but Emeryk won’t call them a pack as he doesn’t want to lose any of them, (he’s heard of so many packs falling apart when one or more pack members are away from the rest of the pack) he loves them all dearly and they give him different things. So they will patiently wait for him to retire.
Emeryk and Romy have skated (no pun intended) around their attraction for one another for years. Playing on the same team and having a relationship isn’t banned, but it can get awkward if they break up or get transferred. And that’s the excuse Romy uses with Emeryk, but he knows that if he gets involved with him, Romy will be found out and kicked off the team, but worse it will put him as an omega and he will have to retire (and he wants to retire when he wants to and not when he’s told!)
But when his “vitamin” fails and Romy goes into an early heat (he usually hides away in the off season to keep his omega traits hidden) all hell breaks loose, and Emeryk is drawn into helping Romy get to a hideaway….. A female Omega goes into heat and that’s when she can become pregnant, male omegas are rare and can’t become pregnant (well not in this Omegaverse!) but suffer intense physical drives to mate. But Romy no longer wants nameless alphas to “knot” him (alphas have an addition to an appendage that all omegas want 😉) he wants HIS alpha….. And so a tricky and complicated web is woven to protect Romy. But with all secrets that eventually come out….
His pack-in-waiting have to be told (and one alpha isn’t happy!) his team and coach have to be told (not everyone is happy there either!) then the media get a hold of it….. and Romy’s worse fears come alive!!!!
The pack -in-waiting include Jen (beta) an alpha restauranteur and a trio of free spirited alphas complete this story. And although we hear and interact with them, we don’t get their point of views!
This book pulls no punches with your emotions! I loved the texts at the beginning of each chapter, I have chuckled at the most inappropriate times (bus/train/work! 😂) It tells a story of injustice, of people not being able to do their own thing. A story of people being victimised and vilified for wanting more that their lot in life. It’s never black and white, there are so many shades of grey in between. What had me on the edge of my seat and reaching for the tissues was the reaction of one alpha in Emeryk’s pack. That had me in total shock (but it’s great to read, it shows that sometimes things don’t always go as you plan, and the one person you thought had your back was the biggest hypocrite going!!)
It’s a great read, it’s also got a few appearances from characters from other books (if you haven’t read those then your not really going to know, nor do you need to read them in order to read this book.)
Another highly recommend and interesting read from one of my favourite mm #whychoose #omegaverse authors.
I had to think about this one overnight and why, specifically, it didn't work for me on any level and I think it boils down to this:
There were zero emotional stakes in this entire 427 page novel. Everyone is in love with each other from page 1. There's not even a lot of stress about getting together, because everyone already has the timeline of retirement "in a few years". Everyone has essentially agreed to this, and at no point in 427 pages is the reader left to worry that this won't actually be acceptable to anyone.
When you've got ZERO emotional stakes in a ROMANCE novel, then the plot has to do something, but nothing that happens in this book ever actually threatens the relationships that matter in the book. We don't spend nearly enough time with Izan and Emeryk to actually feel that bad when Izan is a let down, and every single one of Izan's "threats" ends up being completely hollow and flaccid other that to kind of push forward the last 1/4 of the plot.
The last 1/4 which is the only time a plot even emerges and then suddenly we've got political disaster and the mafia shows up? Also for no reason other than a convenient way to deal with nothing and to have zero effects from a main character being shot by a former teammate.
The hockey serves zero purpose, makes no sense, and doesn't even need to be there beyond making the characters public figures. But even that part is tentative at best. Romy experiences some emotional consequences from coming out as an omega, but not that affect the things we care the most about (his relationships, his business, his career), only public perception and then weirdly being shot and recovering fully all within about 30 pages. At the very end of a book. Where, again, nothing of significance happens not even interpersonally.
I've never been so entirely unfulfilled by a book. I can usually at least find a thread of something, or know why a book just doesn't work for me without thinking it's just wholesale terrible.
But no. This was a bad book because it doesn't function as a novel.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book turned out to be even better than I was expecting with a fantastic group of characters that have come together in their love for each other, and become this amazing source of comfort and support through tough times and intense moments. *Readers should read the author's note at the front as they talk through their reasonings for what is in the book and content warnings.* Romy is an exceptional man in that he is an omega secretly excelling in the sports world, something that has never been allowed or thought of to do but it is all he has dreamed of doing since he was three years old. It's meant a lot of sacrifice on his part, hiding who he is, what he wants and not being with who he wants in order to keep himself safe. Emeryk is an alpha who is on Romy's team. They have had a strong connection since Romy joined but he has followed the young man's wishes to just be friends. He has the love of his alpha, Izan, three alpha men he calls his packlet, and then his beta, Jen, though Emeryk refuses to join together as a pack as he has seen how that can fall apart when you are a travelling sportsman. Of course, circumstances change everything for Romy and Emeryk with a secret revealed and the whole pack situation coming into question as others will have to know. My heart broke for Romy, with what he has put himself through to play the sport he loves in a world that is dominated by alphas and populised betas. Omegas are the extreme minority and not ones that should be out, working or doing anything strenuous. He is about to change the world, but not everyone is happy about it. There is extreme heartache as truths come to light, happiness as bonds are created and love as a family comes together. Things do get scary for a minute as it's not just those they know they have to worry about but the world at large. There is also the intense heat scenes that alpha and omega have to, unfortunately, endure but somehow they struggle through! I hope we get some more from this series, or at least stories for some of the other players on the team. Linus and Finnian especially deserve some happiness. I love what the author has created and the family that have made their place in it with a trailblazing omega, even if all he wants to do is play hockey. Definitely another recommended read from this author and I look forward to the next. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
Crea has been really hitting these hockey themed stories lately! First m/m and now in her poly books as well, although I don't expect the topic to continue on in her poly books as it will with her m/m books since all of the packs in these series have been so different.
Romy and Emeryk were so darn cute together in this book. I loved how they were close and so in tune with each other even before Romy's true designation was known. After that everything just seemed to mesh together so well. I expected much more tension or drama throughout the book but it wasn't too bad. The one thing that stayed consistent was Romy and Emeryk's support of one another and their love for each other. Along with the presence of their soon-to-be packmates, things never got too overwhelming or to a point where I felt I was going to throw my phone across the room. Sure, there were some obstacles, but it never seemed like it was something that would split the pack up or seriously affect them, which was my main concern because I don't always enjoy second or third act breakups when a character does something stupid to “save” the others from something or makes a sudden decision without speaking with the others. These characters were actually really great with their communication!
Crea does warn before the book begins that this book is not centered around the female character, so hopefully you aren't expecting that. I would definitely say the book is more Romy and Emeryk's than the pack as a whole, which I didn't mind, as Emeryk already had established relationships with his beta and the packlet becore he even met Romy. I felt this really allowed his relationship with Romy to flourish after years of pining for him and vice versa. The one thing that I wished Crea included in this book was that Romy got time with each of the other members of the pack and that they got their own moments as well. I was sad we didn't get one with each and would have loved to see another heat scene that included the entire pack helping Romy through it. Maybe I'll cross my fingers and it will be a future bonus scene.
What I liked about this book was how Crea wrote Romy character because he doesn’t want to be like every other omega out there and what society says he should be. He wants to have a normal life just like an alpha and a beta. He doesn’t want his life to be sitting at home doing nothing like all the other omega are out there because that is what they’ve been taught from a young age. The one thing about his character is he is a very strong character because he has to keep him being a omega secret and all the stress that he has from being who he is, he keeps it all inside because he wants to do his dream play hockey and if anybody found out for what he was, he would have to get kicked off the team. One night after a hockey game, he started acting strange, and he realized his medicine stopped working, and the person that he has feelings for is an alpha he came to find out what Romy really is, and he accepts him for the fact of who he is. Emeryk character in this book is an alpha he is very sweet and a generous. He has a pack, but hasn’t fully committed to them yet because he he is playing hockey and he doesn’t want his pack to fall apart because he’s not there so he won’t commit to a pack at this moment. Emeryk has that feelings Romy and when he finds out that he is an omega, things change with the relationship, and you see both of them work through the struggles of being in an alpha, omega relationship. Also the struggles with having a packed and the pack would want to have omega in their lives. And if they will support Romy want to live out his dream to be a hockey player. The other thing that I like about this book, is that mostly focuses on Romy and Emeryk in the pack, not everybody else, but you get to see bits and pieces of how they’re all connected with each other and how they all feel about each other. The other thing I like about this book is a communication between almost all the characters right away because they want this to work out they wanna have a happy life with one another they don’t want to have drama or problems.
Get Pucking Knotty by Crea Reitan is an Omegaverse Hockey romance. It is book four in the Knotty & Sweet Omegaverse series of standalones. They each have their own theme and can each be read independently.
Romy is a star hockey player on his team. He’s talented, smart, and has a major crush on the team’s goalie. He has everything he’s ever dreamed of but each day is lived in fear because he has a major secret - he’s not really the beta he pretends to be - he’s an omega in hiding.
Emeryk returns Romy’s feelings. He’s a strong alpha and has been patiently waiting for 3 years to make the beta his. When unforeseen circumstances cause Romy’s true designation to be revealed to Emeryk, he steps up immediately and embraces everything about his love.
Unfortunately, in this world, Omegas are kept at home and unable to work due to their “fragile and soft natures”. It isn’t safe for them to travel or be outside alone. Not everyone is happy that Romy has proved this to be false. The duo and their pack face discrimination, prejudice, and abuse.
I can’t praise this book enough. First, it isn’t your typical poly romance. It centers on the two male characters and how they fell in love, formed a strong relationship, and then built a pack. The other characters are certainly part of the story, I don’t want to diminish their importance, but they are not central figures. The love story here is between Romy and Emeryk and it is beautiful. Romy is a strong Omega but also kind, sweet, and gentle. Emeryk is everything you could ever want in an Alpha: protective, fierce, athletic, and touch him d!e vibes for days. I really hope we get a continuing story on the whole pack.
Emeryk has a sort of pack, he has not bounded with them yet because he wants to finish his career in Hockey. Emeryk has seen too many packs break up over long distance relationships. In the hockey world, you are always traveling for games. Emeryk is focusing on his game, but Romy a beta has caught his eye he is drawn to Romy for some unknown reason and the last 3 years they have played on the same team, he just can't figure out why he believes Romy is his. On the road Romy and Emeryk are roommates, due to one or two of the team members that are alphas and they are always over stepping boundaries with Romy. Unknown to Emeryk, the team, the world and even Romy's sister, Romy is an Omega! When Romy was 3 and he saw his first hockey game, he fell in love with the game. However, they would not let him play because, Romy was an Omega. Romy's dad who works for a company that develops medications, developed a medication that would mask Romy's omega smell, with his “vitamin” Romy finally gets his wish, with his smell being masked by the “vitamin” he was able to hide his omega blooms. One day when the team was on the road, Romy went into an omega heat. Romy's body had adjusted to his medication and it was no longer working. With Emeryk knowing the truth, Romy is afraid he will no long be able to play hockey but Emeryk swears he will not tell. After Romy's episode, Emeryk and Romy become close. Should Romy let the world know? Will Emeryk's pack even though Emeryk has not claimed them accept Romy? What of IZAN the other alpha in Emeryk's life would he let Romy continue with hockey? Will the hockey corporation stand by Romy if he comes out? What about Romy's company will his employees stay or quit? Will he loose his sponsors? Who Shot Romy?
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Actual rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
First time reader of Reitan's books, and I think I'm hooked already. This is a standalone novel in the "Knotty & Sweet Omegaverse", but does have some interconnected minor characters. In saying that, you absolutely do not need to have read the previous books to understand their place in the world.
This was a beautiful, if slightly unique take on an OV story. Reitan has a different vision for her OV world (which she sets up before the book starts) and I absolutely love how different it is. That alone hooked me before I even started reading.
Romy and Emeryk, oh my goodness these two men. Romy, the omega disguised as a beta who only wants to play hockey. Emeryk, the Alpha who wants nothing more than to protect Romy (and doesn't understand why for a while). Ugh. Perfect couple. The fact they're so stupidly in love and don't realise it for a while? Makes their love story all that much sweeter.
And the packlet and Jen? Such a unique bunch of characters that I was here for. I can definitely say I know people similar to Kyoto and Oslo, not gonna lie.
But the overall storyline of making the world better for omegas, for them having more of a place in society, and to see prejudices challenged, though patterns changed and greater acceptance? That's what I was here for. This novel speaks on so many levels - and for that I truly sing my praises for the book Reitan has released.
Cannot wait to sink my teeth into the rest of the books in this universe.
Get Pucking Knotty is a hockey romance by Crea Reitan. This is a medium burn why choose with a polyamorous relationship between 4 alphas, a beta, and an omega/ MMFMMM with a focus on one relationship in particular that is MM. It is an ABO non-shifter omegaverse based in an alternate reality. I loved this story it had everything I could want romance, thrills, and humor while dealing with a serious topic of bigotry and overcoming trauma.
Romy is an omega who is passing himself of as a beta with the aid of medication, for the sole purpose of playing professional hockey, since omegas are not allowed to work. In order to keep his secret he is forced to keep himself at a distance from everyone. However when he's out of town his pills fail him sending him into a heat. He is exposed by his perfume to Emeryk. Now that Emeryk knows his secret will they finally be able to act out on their desires? Will Romy be able to keep his secret and still play hockey?
I rated this book 5 out of 5 stars. I'm not really a hockey fan so wasn't sure if I would like this but I definately recommend this one even if your not a sports fan. I fell in love with the charactersamd was sad to say goodbye when I finished the book. This story really pulled emotions out of me. I found myself cheering, crying, stressed, and happy along with Romy as the story progressed. There is plenty lf heat and spicy between Romy and Emeryk. If you enjoy non shifter omegaverses along with drama and suspense with some spice you will love Get Pucking Knotty!
"Get Pucking Knotty" is the newest standalone in the "Knotty & Sweet Omegaverse" world. There is a tiny reference to the characters of the previous two books, but it's perfectly possible to read this book seperately. Even though all these books are mostly sweet, I believe this one is the "lightest" and sweetest of the three so far.
There have been books in the past about an omega hiding his or her designation to pursue their dreams, but I have to say Romy goes further compared to them. It made him one of the best ice hockey players out there; until an unexpected heat threatens to destroy it all... While I really enjoyed this story, the love these characters feel for each other and their developing relationships, I struggled a little with the POV's. Whenever I read reverse harem, I expect either single or multiple POV. This book only has two POV's: our male omega Romy, and one of our male alpha's Emeryk. As a result, the other characters felt less important to the story, but at times also to the pack.
One thing I really loved about this book were the text conversations that are used at the start of each chapter. They were really funny and hilarious at times, and maybe that only made me miss some of these characters' POV's more. I wish they had their own time to shine... Despite that though, this was a cute story.
Romy is just the most precious little hidden omega there ever was! I loved this book for several reasons. Number one: an omega in hiding that's not just doing a job, he is EXCELLING at it! I feel like other books on the Omegaverse spectrum show how omegas kind of don't fit or blend well when they're trying to hide. I loved how Romy got by for so many years without detection. Number two: Emeryk and Romy. OMG SWOON! Emeryk is such a wonderful mushy alpha for Romy and their entire relationship just gave me all the sweet feels! He is such a thoughtful alpha and really respects Romy without question. I loved that that was never in jeopardy. Number three: PACKLET AND JEN. They are easily some of the best side characters I've seen in an Omegaverse novel. They are supportive, sweet, and protective of Romy. They never question his decisions and they back Emeryk without a second thought. Most of all, I loved having Izan in this novel. His character's entire story arc was really important because in a lot of novels, I feel like characters like him just end up changing entirely throughout the story to make it a true HEA. I loved that in this book we saw many characters that opposed Omega rights and never changed their minds despite Romy's story. I felt like we needed to see that because that is a reality in the world we live in: not everyone will agree with you.
Crea Reitan is a instant read for me. Every time a book drops I read it, and I’m rarely disappointed.
I found her when I read the first book in this series and she tore my heart out with the grief in that book. Five stars hands down.
This book is just as well written and I loved it as well. The quality is there.
I gave it four stars though, because there were some things that just bothered me. I read romance books because of the HEA. I believe in the ability to change and redemption and that didn’t happen. The end of this book left me feeling let down as a result. I’m just sad, I really wanted a different outcome.
I also found the text messaging at the start of every single chapter highly annoying. If they setup the chapter I would have appreciated it. But these were silly texts that did nothing for the story. As such they distracted me and pulled me out of the book because I kept trying to make them matter, when they didn’t, and weren’t meant to.
There’s a genre of PNR out there that caters to the crowd of readers who appreciate lighter hearted silly stuff like that. I’m not one of those. And that’s ok! But because of her other books I have an expectation of heavier stuff. As a result this detracted from the story for me.
I will continue to read her books. I just can’t give this book five stars.
Love going into different worlds and seeing how an author can make it theirs, not just the same old Omegaverse, this is a world that Crea Reitan created, her vision of it. Now, the author does have a bit of a PSA in the beginning to let a reader know what is what, and if you read the blurb then you know it's a MM story, and it's also polyamorous. This was also done a differently, and while some may or may not agree with how this was done, it's good to remember again, this is the author's take on that world. Now, Romy is an Omega that is pulling off that he is a Beta so that he can play pro-hockey. Emeryk is an Alpha that also plays for the same team and is just waiting for Romy to be ready for more than just teammates. But Emeryk doesn't know Romy's secret, so when it does come out, how will Emeryk react? Will Romy have to give up hockey?
I found this to be a very interesting take on the Omegaverse. For me, and this is just IMO, I loved the idea of the packs but the part where everyone was involved, I could do without and actually I felt the other relationships diminished the relationship between Romy and Emeryk. Like I said this is just IMO and how I felt. Doesn't mean this wasn't a good story, there were other aspects that kept me engaged. I will give this 4 stars.
I think I was looking for a more why choose romance with all of the participants involved, but the author clearly outlined in the beginning that this story was Romy’s story.
I really enjoyed this story too! All Romy wanted to do since he was a child was to play hockey, but since his designation was Omega, no one would ever allow him to do it. His father was a chemist and created a way to change his scent and hold off his heats so he could play – and ultimately he became to be known as a beta. One of his teammates, Emeryk, is not only an alpha but enamored of Romy. He has a few people within his “not” pack… and would love to have Romy as well, but Romy has refused his advances until once night with Romy’s medicine fails and he finds out that he is an Omega.
Then the story goes into how biased this alternate reality is… there are people who are supportive of the Omega’s working and doing what they want, and even more that do not want the Omega’s out of their place. It gets super crazy with all that happens. But I loved how this story shaped up and how it ended!
Great job!
I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
** If the score is ONE EMOJI that means little to none of whatever category/trope was present in the book.
I really enjoyed this book. It feels like a two person love story in the middle of a poly relationship. Emeryk and Romy clearly belong together. That is clear from the start. Unfortunately the universe they live in provides an obstacle because Romy isn't able to live his truth and live his life the way he chooses. I love the way this storyline progresses in the book.
Pack living is a normal thing in this world and I loved the members of their pack including the female character and I liked those scenes and interactions.
Romy and Emeryk are the stars of the show for me though and I loved seeing their love story develop after years of pining that we didn't have to experience with them another point in the love it column for me.
This is my first book to read by Crea Reitan in the Knotty and Sweet Omegaverse and I was super excited to read it since it contains my current two favorite tropes: hockey and omegaverse (never thought I would see those two cross). I was pleasantly surprised and how cute and different this book ended up being from other omegaverses I have read in the past. Romy (MMC) is an omega pretending to be a beta so he can play hockey. He is probably one of the strongest omegas that I’ve ever seen and works hard at portraying the beta role so he can continue to play the game that he loves. Emeryk, an alpha, is also on the hockey team and has yet to settle into a pack as he’s not ready to settle down and be the leader of a pack instead of playing hockey. He does have what he calls a “packlet” (so stinking cute) that he is trying to come to terms with.
I love that the story line focuses on trying to create a better place for omegas and allowing them to be more accepted. It was easy to apply to real life and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride! I for sure will read the other books in this series and be on the look out for new ones in the future!
Emeryk cares about Romy, probably more than he should when he's refused to bond with his not-pack before he retires from hockey. Romy loves hockey more than anything, and he has a thing for Emeryk not that he can get close, if he does, Emeryk will find out his secret. I absolutely adored this story, it's quite different from the rest of the Knotty & Sweet Omegaverse stories as the alpha, betas and omegas in this one live well outside of any of the places we've been before. The character designations seem a little more fluid than they were in the other stories where each designation had its place, I mean they do in this one too but people are a little more accepting, some of them are anyway.
Romy and Emeryk really are end goals! And they are made even better by Emeryk's not pack. I love how protective Emeryk is of Romy even before he finds out his secret. He knew Romy was his from the beginning and he'd never do anything to hurt his Puckshot. They face a lot of hurdles throughout the story and Emeryk is behind Romy every time no matter what.
I'm intrigued to see what else comes from this universe and the author.
Get Pucking Knotty, part of the Knotty & Sweet Omegaverse by Crea Reitan delivered a fabulous hockey omegaverse story that was absolute perfection!!! Full of all the goodness of a typical omegaverse with lots of heat, hot burning chemistry and connection and angst and tensions galore, but with an added hockey twist and of course tons of MM deliciousness thrown in, this story will captivate you right from the start and never let go!
I absolutely loved Romy right from the start! With a deep love and addiction for hockey, Romy has lived his life hiding his true designation at ll costs. Even from his roommate Emeryck, a man he’s secretly been in love with for forever. For five years he’s kept this secret safe, playing the game and living a life of lies until one night changes everything and secrets are revealed that could destroy the current life he’s created for himself. So now the question is, is he risking it all, including his hockey career, or does he have even more to gain? If you love stories packed full of tons of angst, secrets and heat then Crea knows exactly how to deliver it all, page after page after page so dive in today!
I have enjoyed every previous Knotty & Sweet story by this author, but something about this one just resonated. I read the blurb and was intrigued! I remembered from the previous book, that there was a hockey connection and it helped set this story up just a smidge (I’m a sucker for cameos/easter eggs!). I also read the authors note at the beginning and went into this well aware that there wasn’t a FMC at the center, although there is one as a love interest. Emeryk and Romy’s story made me laugh and broke my heart repeatedly. I loved that the focus was on the two of them, because they are the heart of the story. The other pack members are well-written and don’t feel like afterthoughts, which was really well done of the author because we don’t get their POV. We get to know them through Emeryk and Romy’s POV and it works for the story. A lot of the plot revolves around current societal issues and the parallels felt very real. The same has been true for each book in the series, and I appreciate the depth that this adds to the story. The spice is also perfect and well-paced. I hope there are more stories in this universe to come!
From a romance perspective I found this really disappointing. Much like Starting Line by this author, the two MCs have been in love with each other for years but haven’t acted in that due to one of them having a big secret - in this case, Romy is an omega who has been hiding his designation to play professional hockey. Once that secret is out between them things move very quickly and we miss all of them falling in love.
It became more about pack dynamics and designation discrimination - possibly as an allegory for traditional gender roles and discrimination in the workplace. A lot of this I found interesting and the book flows pretty well but I wouldn’t recommend this as an MM Omegaverse romance. There are no group scenes and it’s not particularly spicy imo. Though Emeryk doesn’t bond with his pack mates initially they are clearly already an established pack and Romy has known them in a platonic capacity for years so there’s not a ton of courting or romance there either. 🤷🏼♀️
I received an advanced copy for review and this is my honest opinion.
This story shows another view into how a pack life can form, in this author’s world. The story really focuses on Emeryk, and Romy’s relationship. Emeryk, as an A designation and a hockey player, hasn’t wanted to settle down with a pack yet, afraid that his career would tear apart a pack. He’s surrounded himself with a pseudo pack of those he loves. Romy is a hidden O, going against the grain in a world O’s aren’t allowed to be sports stars, own businesses etc. The story is heavy on commentary on class distinction and people’s opinions on it, paralleling what happens in the real world today. While I typically like a story with a male O in it, I really didn’t feel like Romy’s character fit with his chosen career… other than some of his physique, and the fact that he worked hard and was talented on the ice, I just didn’t see it…But regardless, it was a different way of looking at a male O in society. I liked the characters fine, I liked their interactions, the supporting characters that made up their pseudo pack was fun. Crea does a fabulous job of writing relationship!
Get Pucking Knotty by Crea Reitan is part of the Knotty & Sweet Omegaverse. I’m going to start this review by saying I’m a huge fan of Crea Reitan’s writing, I don’t think this author has written a book I haven’t liked. This is a great take on an Omegaverse and hockey romance rolled into one. It’s also a why choose romance that takes place in an alternate reality of a sort. I will mention to check your trigger warnings before reading to be on the safe side. I read this book in about a day, it caught my interest in the first few chapters and held until the very end. This was definitely an emotional rollercoaster for me, I went from frustrated to sad to happy with a few other feelings mixed in. It has twists and turns with a dash of suspense and drama. It’s the perfect blend (for me) of plot and spice. The characters are written very well and you can’t help getting attached. But the heat and chemistry between Romy and Emeryk is top tier. Definitely a recommendation!
Emeryk and Remy are both hockey players, a sport reserved for Alphas and Betas. However, Remy is an Omega using medication to hide his designation so he can play hockey. Unfortunately during an away game, his medication fails and he starts his heat, revealing his real designation to his Emeryk, his Alpha roommate. His roommate that he’s very attracted to.
Once Emeryk knows his designation, Remy no longer has any reservations about starting a relationship with him. However, being in a relationship with Emeryk means being in a relationship with Emeryk’s pack, which means more people who will need to know his real designation. Remy has to make sure his new relationship is worth it.
‘Get Pucking Knotty’ is a steamy omegaverse sports romance. Although the story is slightly polyamorous, it is primarily mm. The spicy scenes are also super hot and neither man can get enough of the other. It's fun to see the bonds form between Remy and the other members of Emeryk’s pack. They are all really sweet together. This is definitely a four-star romance.
I received a copy of this book from Chaotic Creatives, and this is my honest review.
Another amazing creation from Rea Creitan. I love the way she writes it is always very emotional and realistic. You really feel how all the characters are feeling and the way their emotions change as the stories go. This book was a perfect Omega verse but it really centered around Emeryk and Romy the mostly as we saw go from friends to so much more. The packlet is hilarious and so loving and patient with Romy. Emeryk has been in love with Romy for years but he has been shy and keeps pushing him away. When Romy's secret is revealed to Emeryk things make so much sense and everything clicks. Emeryk has always wanted a pack but not until he has retired from Hockey but as things progress he realizes it was the situation not that he wants to wait. This book was a great read and I enjoyed it very much I have loved all the books I have read by Crea Reitan and can't wait to see what she come out with next. I was given this book as an ARC for my honest review.
This book is a fun and exciting romance with a polyamorous relationship involving multiple alphas, a beta, and an omega. It's set in an alternate reality and explores the themes of bigotry and overcoming trauma. I really enjoyed this story because it had everything I wanted - romance, thrills, and humor. The author's upfront explanation about the main characters was helpful, making it clear that the focus is on the two male leads. It tells the story of Romy and Emeryk, who share a strong bond and face challenges like prejudice and healing from past traumas. The growing friendship between Romy and Emeryk is heartwarming, and Romy's strength as a character truly shines. The characters were complex and well-written, I would have liked more of a dynamic involving all the members or a group scene but understand the focus was meant to be on only the two of them, it just felt like a missed opportunity. This quickly became a favorite of mine and I highly recommend it. (ARC review)
This is part of the Knotty & Sweet Omegaverse and I cannot get enough of these books. This story is about a poly relationship, but the main focus is Emeryk and Romy. The story takes you through all of your emotions and I even teared up a couple of times. All Romy has wanted to do is play hockey, but because of his designation as an omega he’s not supposed to. He’s too weak and needs to be taken care of, so they say. This is their story of overcoming other’s perceptions and the pack being their loving support system. This is a beautiful story of love and a little bit of disappointment for how some people treat others. The last sentence of the story is bittersweet. I loved the text messages at the beginning of each chapter between the pack. They showed how silly and fun all their relationships are. I truly enjoyed reading this book and I couldn’t put it down. I look forward to the next book in the series.
Getting Pucking Knotty is the fourth book in the Knotty & Sweet Omegaverse. This is a standalone and can be read on it's own. This is also a MMFMMM, polyamorous/Whychoose story, but the main focus on Romy and Emeryk (MM).
I get so excited when Crea Reitan comes out with a new book. It's always a new experience every time. Romy is an omega who disguised himself as a beta, in order to play hockey. In this world, Omegas are expected to stay at home and basically be "the mother hen". Romy is taking a huge risk but
He is also on the same team as his crush, Emeryk, who is an alpha. When they are roomed together Romy unexpectedly went into heat and his Alpha teammate immediately found out.
This was so good. Like I mentioned, this isn't your typical whychoose/polyamorous book. Romy and Emeryk were everything. This was emotional and I love how in-depth Crea Reitan goes into her books. At times,, it was a bit on the slower side but definitely worth the read!!
