My name is Allison, and I'm an author. Please don't ask me to name my favorite book because I have no idea what it is.
Granted, that hasn't stopped me from telling people it's To Kill a Mockingbird for years. I delight in her imagery.
With or Without You by Carole Matthews broke my heart and pieced it back together again.
Eat, Pray, Love made me realize I wasn't the only one feeling painfully alone.
Elizabeth Bennet helped me believe in love again.
Me Before You reminded me I could lose love again.
Bossypants made me laugh. Hard and out loud.
Evicted made me feel sick and sad and horrified because of what I thought I knew.
My imagination ran wild with each new Harry Potter.
I want to read The Night Circus at least 100 more times.
Victoria Laurie helped me embrace the things that go bump in the night.
I was reminded of my own vulnerabilities reading Jemima J.
And the list keeps going.
So I'm an author. I'm an author because being an author can make people laugh and cry and question their beliefs and turn them on and turn them off and fall in love and all of the other things that humans should do in order to live a full life.
And I hope that in reading my books, you feel something–something that reminds you of why you read books in the first place.
Got caught up on this series. I have loved it! A bit more risque than most of the cozies I read, but then again, a little variety is good sometimes. Still no real sex scenes, but lots of implied things to keep it steamy, in a cozy way. This time, most of the bad guys are dealt with, so there will need to be some new characters to keep the series going, not that that should be a problem for Ms Janda. This is clearly a series that has room for further development, and yet each book or'episode' is great all on its own; it's just that if you read one, you definitely want more!
Such a fun continuation of Marian's story! Mika's life in the Ukraine has come to haunt him. Carmen's history is catching up with her, too. Marian and the gang help them get into and out of messes, with the help of the raspberry cheesecake model, Declan. It gets increasingly tense with a fantastic resolution. And lots of laughs along the way.
We see some more development of Mika (anger, fear) and get some of his family history, but still no real depth to him. Rory shows some more development, too, as a brother figure.
Do I need to read books before this one: I think so, but it might not be necessary Would I read more of the series: yes Cliffhanger: no POSSIBLE TRIGGERS Sex: pre-marital sex only alluded to, arousal, petting, Language: 0 F words, 8 Lord's name in vain, 1 S word Violence: drugs but no usage, death by gunshot to the head, bombings, attempted poisoning, threat of death by gun, fire fight
Book 4 was just as good as the rest. Love the characters as they grow and evolve. The stories are fab, you can’t out the book down as you have to read the next chapter
I’ve gotta say I really like this series so far!!! They aren’t books you need to read immediately after one another so you don’t forget the plot but they are definitely entertaining!!!
This is the 4th book in Allison Janda's series about crime scene/food porn photographer Marian Moyer. Each book gets better & better. This time Marian, boyfriend Mika, & their friends become involved with a mob boss & a psycho Yugoslavian killer(s). Marian leads us through bombs, shootings, & a creepy landlord. Mix in some great food porn with a raspberry cheesecake & super hot model Declan. It all adds up to an enjoyable book. I can't wait for the next book to see what Marian & crew get involved with next.
I really enjoyed this book. I did not realize this was a series, and found this to be very good as a stand alone book. Mika and Marian are sitting at home while Marian nurses a bad cold. In comes Addison and talks them into going to a party. From there the roller coaster begins. Attempted murders, visits with the police and misunderstandings just keep this book moving. I will now read the other books in this series.
