As antislavery crusader John Brown gathers men and arms at a small farm near Harper's Ferry, seventeen-year-old Annie Brown must decide: Is her father a visionary or a madman?
A former actor, theatre-director and drama teacher, Deary says he began writing when he was 29. Most famously, he is one of the authors of the Horrible Histories series of books popular among children for their disgusting details, gory information and humorous pictures and among adults for getting children interested in history. Books in the series have been widely translated into other languages and imitated.
A cartoon series has been made of the series of books and was shown on CiTV for a period in 2002.
The first series of a live-action comedy sketch show of the same name was shown on CBBC in 2009 and a second series is due.
Terry is also known widely throughout children and adult reading groups alike for his True Stories series (see below for series list).
He received an Honorary Doctorate of Education from the University of Sunderland in 2000. His numerous accolades also include the Blue Peter "Best Nonfiction Author of the Century" Award in the U.K.
It may not be boring like those of our history subjects before. But I didn't quite understood or get some of the words used or written from it. I do need my DICTIONARY!
It has a lot of interesting facts that I know not, not after reading this. I also need a lot of fact checking if all written information here were true.

The Tudors was a reread for me so I won’t comment again on it. The Stuarts book was just as entertaining, if horrible. The illustrations really add to this series. And although aimed at older children, they are just as good for adults - especially those with just a passing interest in history.
After reading this book, which I received as a souvenir from my husband's trip to England, I think I would definitely enjoy reading other books in this series.
There is a lot of information packed in this fairly short book, but it is presented with humor and interest, as well as alongside some very unusual and sometimes quite gruesome facts about life during the reign of the Tudors and Stuarts. It would certainly be a vocabulary stretcher for many adults, but I loved that they kept the original phrasing. There are a number of quizzes included that present some rather outlandish answers, and often it is the one you think couldn't possibly be the answer that turns out to be true. The drawings throughout were well done and also added humour to the information being presented.
I've always enjoyed the Horrible Histories series! This one is especially good because I already know quite a bit about these two periods. I think this book adds some more funny (yet real) details to my understanding of the Tudors and Stuarts. I would highly recommend this book to those who are interested in British history.
I love this book. It really does make history more accessible to kids (and adults, I guess). The first time I read it, I had to use a dictionary (I was 10 and English isn't my native language), but I still really liked it.
