Idolatry is not just the worship of idols and clay figures. While the nature of the temptation has changed over the years idolatry is as much a threat today as it was in our ancestors' time.
Idolatry includes any portrayal of God as any material thing, force, or being." p. 38 Deuteronomy 10:18 "Love therefore the stranger." "Monotheism therefore demands that when we enter the Holy of Holies, we take a critical attitude toward human accomplishments, seeing them as neither ultimate nor irreplaceable. That is also why the Torah in Deuteronomy 10:18 claims that God loves the stranger, the non-Jew, the person who may not look like you, believe what you believe, or act the way you act.
