Imagine a Woman in Love With Herself: Embracing Your Wisdom and Wholeness

Rate this book
Imagine A Woman In Love With Herself is based on twenty stanzas of Patricia Lynn Reilly's popular poem "Imagine a Woman." The book holds up a womanaffirming mirror and invites women to look upon themselves with loving kindness. The book empowers women to move from selfloathing to selflove, from selfcriticism to selfcelebration. Each stanza of the poem is followed by a series of womanaffirming reflections and meditations to carry you into your day...into your life. The "Imagine a Woman" poem has circled the globe, inspiring books, screenplays, videos, life transitions, professional portfolios, ministries, coaching practices, relationships, virtual communities, social networks, and organizational missions. This year Imagine a Woman International is celebrating the poem's 15th year anniversary with a new website and new programs and opportunities for personal growth and professional enhancement.

"Imagine a woman who has relinquished her desire for intellectual safety and approval.
A woman who makes a powerful statement with every word she speaks, every action she takes.
Who asserts to herself the right to reorder the world."

This book calls on many similar ideas to Ruiz's The Mastery of Love which I also enjoyed. The difference is that this is directed to women specifically, and to the men who seek to help the women in their lives reach a state of spiritual and emotional independence. The book is full of mantras as is expected in the self-help genre. But it also calls on common sense and philosophical objectivity. It will be, for some, a wake up call to their responsibility to themselves, and the universe, to be a whole human being.

The challenge is put as this: What if you are all there is to rely on? What if it all comes down to you? Because it does... No one can make you happy. No one can make you secure, fulfilled, blisssful - only you. The best news, according to the author - you can do it right now. You can choose it right now. The life is yours for the making - the world, yours for the taking.

Simple but not easy.

Honestly, I forgot when I was a little, a child, undefined and when I was in awe of the world, and everything was so interesting! This is a very quick read, as you will not want to put it down. I could read this again and again. And I reached far back in my mind, when I felt and did and said what I wanted! When I felt truly free from societal norms and pressures. This book took me back to feeling that freedom I had felt but never could define when I was lacking it. Very enjoyable. Thanx Katey Flowers!

A book about loving yourself deeply and appreciated who you are PAST, present and future. I enjoyed the powerful concepts in the book. The author did a great job directing women in gaining self awareness through guided meditations regarding the particular topic of wholeness as a women and self acceptance. With that said, I must also mention that the book is a bit difficult to get through for me because the tone in which she takes the reader into these emotionally charged topics was a little more intense than I was looking for. There's an obvious gentleness, but I also need humor to which there was none. All in all, I'm glad there is a book out there that touches on these topics. Some people may think this book is a breeze...I like to keep things somewhat light.

I love Patricia Lynn Reilly and have been "currently reading" this book for years. It is based on a poem PLR wrote with 20 stanzas addressing a woman's journey of healing, finding spirituality, wholeness, sensuality, empowerment and joy. I LOVE THIS BOOK and turn to it when I need to. There are brilliant exercises (guided meditations, brainstorming on whether people in your life are drainers or fuelers of energy and more) that have helped me lift the curtain on dark times. Thank you, PLR. I am so grateful for you!

This is a beautiful and inspiring book which reminds girls, adolescents, and women the ways we often forget, or choose to forget that we are able to and absolutely should spend time and energy truly loving every part of ourselves each day. After all, with out self respect and love, how can we provide others with the proper nurture and support they require from us? Patricia Lynn Reilly really inspired me to "embrace my own wisdom and wholeness" in order to improve my emotional state of mind and improve my personal relationships at the same time.

This was given to me as a gift and I thought - come on what IS this?! Then and i started to read it and I really digged this book. I found it be quite inspiring. Maybe I'm just a sap for this kind of stuff but, who cares - it was a nice read.

Most women have been shamed in childhood for menstruation, or anything remotely womanly and human and normal and good. This can heal that. It is an extension of her gorgeous poem, Imagine a Woman in Love With Herself.

I recommend this book to women of any age. Most of all to young women who are still building confidence and need reassurance from educated women, that it's okay that ...you're sill growing. Building confidence is a life long skill, especially for women, might I add women of color.

A tedious and vapid attempt at depth.
