Discusses the life of the Shawnee warrior, orator, and leader who united a confederacy of Indians in an effort to save Indian land from the advance of white soldiers and settlers.
(Part of the intermediate reading list for CPS.) This was perhaps more like 2.5 stars. The book gives a more fleshed-out picture of Tecumseh and the reasons why he's a notable part of our history. It is the first young adult book I can remember reading that is meticulous and transparent about its source material; there were notes in the back indicating which journal/letter/earlier biography formed the source for the information on those pages, and those notes were totally kid-friendly. I really liked that feature, actually, and I think it would make this book great for teaching about primary and secondary sources and the importance of disclosing where you obtained your information. Unfortunately, the book as a whole was dry and even a little boring. It sometimes felt like I was just reading a social studies textbook with a longer entry on Tecumseh.
