Return of the Birds - Terror from the sky! What if I told you all the beautiful birds that we love and feed suddenly changed and began to feed on us?It happened once in a sleepy resort town in Northern California called Bodega Bay. Now more than 55 years later, it begins again. But it is far worse this time. Species of birds including not just crows and sea gulls, but hawks, eagles and vultures have joined the invasion. What caused this? Why is it happening? Tory McKnight, a student of ornithology from UCSD becomes swept up in a nightmare from her beloved birds, and must try to solve the mystery before the whole town gets killed and a nationwide pandemic ensues. This Hitchcock-style suspense thriller was inspired by the movie “The Birds,” and the short story from Daphne du Maurier. Return of the Birds will have you searching the skies, and both scared to read more but unable to put it down. Hurry, enjoy this before they gather again.Look for the sequel Revenge of the BirdsInterview with the Return of the Birds and Revenge of the Birds are very distinctive from your other books, why did you write them?I was always intrigued by the movie “The Birds” but felt too many questions were left unanswered. It niggled at me all my life, especially every time I watched the movie. I had to write the next chapters to the original story.Do you answer all the questions from the movie “The Birds?”Most of the questions get addressed, but in so doing more questions and concerns arise. There remains a good deal of suspense throughout the book and beyond. It resulted in me writing the sequel, Revenge of the Birds. Why do readers enjoy these books? If they love a classic cliffhanger or good thrillers they enjoy these books. They are longer than the short stories they were inspired by, but then both novels have extra twists and turns that add to the storyline and keep the suspense flowing.
The last attack happened more than 50 years ago in another sleepy resort-side village called Bodega Bay. Little was known about that attack, since several of the principals involved either fled or died off soon afterward, and many of the records were ordered burned along with the dead birds. In fact, no one can be sure it is the same situation after all these years. Tory McKnight, a future ornithologist working on a migration project, at first refuses to believe the reports she hears. Later she feels there must be a reason for what is taking place in the quaint town of San Clemente and begins to investigate. As things progress from bad to worse, more professional help is needed, and it may already be too late. For everyone who was left hanging with more questions than answers from the movie The Birds, and for all those who like a good suspense horror book, this will satisfy your cravings. Joe Moore's first book in a darker genre will keep you on the edge of your seat and searching the skies. Hurry and read this before the next gathering My Thoughts: Rating:4.5 If you like or love The Alfred Hitchcock movie The Birds then you might like this. Wow just wow, what a read.I can differentially say it has a touch and fell of the Alfred Hitchcock movie , and while it's better than the movie The Birds 2, non thing can beat the original movie, and I have to say reading this at night right before going to bed was not a good idea especially if you have a love bird in your room, because unfortunately I read this before going to bed and it give me nightmares which is something that horror neve does. It takes the story a lot deeper and more dark then the Alfred Hitchcock's movie ever did, and it adds something to the story , but you have to read it to find out. With that said I want to thank Netgalley for letting me read and review it .
I love the movie The Birds, even though it came out a few years before I was born, so I was excited to read The Return of the Birds.
I really love how the author was able to explain the cause of the first bird attack, & use that in his plot (50 years later) for the return. The story was great, kept me reading, & I finished pretty quickly. I like the characters, & you can tell that he did his "bird" research because its a very believable story. And of course, the teaser that maybe there will be a second Return of the Birds book?
I highly recommend giving it a ready, especially if you enjoy the movie!
I enjoyed this follow-on to everybody's childhood nightmare. This one has a bit more science to the birds' purpose and is every bit as creepy. The plot is predictable, but pleasantly so. Written in an easy-reading style, it would also be a good choice for new readers. I found myself wishing Hollywood would put this on film. An extra kudos to the cover design.
Scary book. The characterizations were weak and the phrasing was frequently awkward but the plot itself was very engaging. I don’t know enough about birds to vet the accuracy, but it all seemed plausible enough for a casual reader.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing an ARC copy for my review.
Great sequel, explained the movie and tied up those loose ends neatly. Then went on to make it impossible to ever look at a large flock of birds the same way again. If you liked the movie,, you will love this book. Hope there is another chapter to this story out there.., would really love it.
I was a teenager when I first saw the movie, The Birds, and I enjoyed the movie. When I met Joe Moore and saw his book, Return Of The Bids, I couldn't wait to read it. It is written well and kept my interest. It is very gory, so if you are not into gore, this book may be a shocker. Get ready. Thanks, Joe for getting to know your dark side and sharing it with us.
