Ed Gaffney took ten years of work as a criminal lawyer, added an overactive imagination, and came up with a new career as a novelist. I was blown away by this book. I picked it up because I am a sucker for anything with a seal or the Capitol Building on the cover. It was so fast paced I stayed up half the night reading it. It combines the best of courtroom drama with espionage, chase scenes and suspense. While the plot is a little far fetched (we hope), it was a fun, entertaining thriller.

Enemy Combatant by Ed Gaffney has all the elements of a great thriller. There is plenty of action, well defined good guys and bad guys and a main character that you have to root for! When attorney, Tom Carpenter, realizes that he is in the middle of a huge conspiracy led by influential politicians, he tries to bring matters to light. Realizing that he can only trust his closest friends and family, Tom battles the enemy both physically and in the courtroom. You'll have trouble putting this one down!

This book is chilling and suspenseful. I was hooked from the first page and that ending was so intense I could barely turn the pages fast enough!

I could not put this book down. I kept telling myself that I’d stop after one more chapter, but couldn’t seem to follow through. This is an edge of your seat, timely thriller. The themes of justice, terrorism, and government post 9-11 are scary and make for a compelling thriller. You will be drawn in from the very first chapter. Highly recommended.

The concept in this book is larger-than-life, but I was still able to suspend disbelief and enjoy the ride. The story is extremely well told - very exciting and fast-paced. Plus, it was fascinating to look a little bit at the defense attorney side of trials. I haven't seen much of that in books and movies.

Pretty much a page-turner after the first few chapters. Unusual structure takes a while to get used to. Courtroom procedural with conspiracy theory action. I think I would have given it a 5* except for how preachy the epilogue was. Yes, perhaps the fact should be spelled out for more people, but then it should be better written. I will definitley read more by Gaffney.
