It is quite easy sometimes to forget how inhumane apartheid in South Africa was. Mainly because beyond movies like Cry Freedom and Sarafina, one hardly hears stories from that time. In fact, reading Kunene’s compilation of short stories of historical fiction, you are given a glimpse of how Africans were treated like animals, hunted and traded for labor. What's refreshing though about the stories is despite all the cruelty, you are reminded that these are people who continued to live, party, love, laugh, cry and more. Loved the stories although it took a while to get used to Kunene’s fast paced style of writing.
