This book was published in 1997. Reading it in 2019 provides a nice contrast between the American whiskey landscape over 20+ years.

January 5, 2012The title is a little misleading. Although it is indeed a book about whiskey, and one that probably lists many more of them than any other, it is also a beautifully written travelogue put together by a man who made his way to just about every single whiskey distillery known to man. He describes the flavors of the whiskeys and the way they get that way, but also the land and the people and the characteristics that make them interesting in their own right or distinct in some way. Reading it makes one want to do a road trip to some of those places, and the fact that there are some truly great things to taste at each stop is not so bad either.
