With the evolution of technology, one thing that's ever increasing is the facilities it provides, but alongside the threat of online fraud and cheating has increased exponentially. Most common example, everyday on Instagram we receive DMs from strange people that eventually ask us to click on suspicious links, share our private information or send them money to receive a larger sum in return!
With a foreword from Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, this book from Ashok Kumar, DGP, Uttarakhand Police and O.P. Manocha, an ex -DRDO scientist, this book features twelve accounts of cybercrime based on true stories, relating to fake identity on social media, ransomware, card cloning, sextortion and phishing, among others.
I've always been interested in reading true-crime. The intention behind this book is to promote cyber-security and to spread awareness regarding various types of frauds and how one can prevent themselves from falling into such traps. Though reading some of them will make the reader laugh on how foolish a person can be, these things are widespread and so common that we never know, it can happen to anyone in a moment. The book is undoubtedly very interesting, well-written, each incident described in detail and with great fervor. The book has illustrations to keep the readers engaged and cyber-tips to avoid such situations. It is a must read for everyone, the young and the old, for everyone is vulnerable to such crimes. A salute to everyone involved in resolving these cases and catching the criminals!

As a child I was always intrigued to read real stories. Bt I was more fascinated by the real stories of police and army. Their experiences of killing terrorists , how they helped people and those incidents that they hold close to their heart and experiences that helped public at large. Finally a book is here which has real stories of cybercrimes. I have also read "khaki me insan" which was an incredible book with so many anecdotes of Ashok sir's life. I m 100% sure this book has many stories that will help public to read the mentality of the criminals and how police burst those gangs to help general public. I have already ordered my book, very eager to read it :) all the best.

This is an excellent book and the first of its type in India. Cyber crime awareness through stories is a great idea which will definitely help people across generation. The book is promising and a must-read for all. The book has taken inspiration from real case scenarios and has covered a number of challenging and intriguing national-level cases. With the genesis of social media, many people are falling prey to crimes executed on the world wide web. Many times, netizens are forced to compromise their cyber security whilst being trapped by their own emotions. Most cyber crimes remain unsolved as they remain unreported by people out of shame.
When a case was reported, the police department sprung into action and by their presence of mind and timeliness sent the perpetrators behind bars.
'Cyber Encounters' is a concise account of tales that gives an overview of cyber crimes from police files.
It focuses on crimes mainly committed in Uttarakhand state and surrounding areas. Rising instances of Honey-Trapping, Sextortion, Ponzi schemes, Phishing, and Online Trading scam especially during Covid-19 are recorded. It also gives the readers a brief about cybercrime hotspots in the country.
The police solved the grievances of the victims by counseling them to report the crime to the nearest police station when a case was registered online and employed different ways to solve them according to their nature.
Sketches inspired by witness accounts are introduced in the middle of the chapters to make the narration creative and interesting.
The glossary of terms provided at the end of each chapter provides valuable insights into the type of crime. A word of caution is issued for the readers to not fall prey to dubious and bewitching cyber schemes.
