Resting in God's Sovereignty: A 30-Day Devotional on God’s Plan for His People

Rate this book
In the late nineties, Pastor Ernest Easley received difficult news from his a cancer diagnosis, of the throat. This diagnosis would be enough to cause any individual to fear for one’s life, to worry about whether or not tomorrow would be seen. But for Pastor Easley, this diagnosis, though tragic, would be an opportunity to learn to rest in the Sovereignty of God. Now more than twenty years later, the cancer is gone, but the lingering effects of twenty-four radiation treatments has left him with a withering voice. His doctors have told him that in a matter of years, he will no longer be able to speak. He will be a preacher who cannot preach.

And yet, we still find a man whose trust and reliance upon God has allowed him to know that even if he cannot speak or preach about God, that does not mean that God has lost his Sovereignty. He is still Lord. And even more so, Pastor Easley has Scripture to remind him that he is not the first who has had to come to terms with God’s Sovereignty. In Resting in the Sovereignty of God, readers will find not only the wisdom of a seasoned pastor who has learned the goodness that comes from trusting the Lord, but they will also discover ten biblical figures who trusted in the Lord as well.

I just finished a 30 Day devotional book called Resting in God’s Sovereignty by Ernest Easley. He showed examples of different individuals in the Old and New Testaments that learned of God’s sovereignty and love and truth, choosing to follow Him and leaning on Him in their trials. It was beautiful!! It was truly God-inspired and spoke to my heart.

The author shares his experiences and insights during his battle with cancer. Such adversity can drive a person to despair, or it can drive a person to depend all the more on the sovereignty of God. Mr. Easley does a good job of demonstrating what dependence on God's sovereignty looks like in the midst of life's trials by examining how various biblical characters responded to adversity in their lives. This book is a must-read for anyone facing trials, or in other words, for all of us.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

This book is borne of deep pain and confusion. Pastor Easley suffered with serious throat cancer. During his battle he wrestled with the question, is God truly Sovereign. He committed himself to the answer of ‘yes.’ This devotional book shares 30 lessons he learned as he applied Scripture to his condition. His insights are comforting and applicable to any life issue. I would have been happy to read another month or more.
