Ace magician turned ace police detective Joe Bailey, a.k.a. the Spirit Basher, needs all his expertise when he’s teamed up with psychic investigator Monica Gaines to crack a string of serial murders--each involving strange voices and stranger circumstances. Monica senses supernatural forces at work, but whoever--or whatever--is doing the killing, the victims are real. When eerie happenings hit closer to home--to Joe’s daughter, Nikki--and then Monica herself is the victim of a grisly, near-fatal attack, Joe is more determined than ever to unmask the truth behind the phenomena. As he searches for answers to inexplicable questions, he discovers that politics and the paranormal make deadly bedfellows, that his escape-artist skills still come in handy--and that even a psychic can know too much.

Great plot and character development as well as a very instructive manual on faking paranormal activity and magic. While the author takes a very open minded attitude, the overall attitude is one of waiting to be convinced.... Looking forward to another in this series! A very entertaining serial killer/spy/paranormal (almost) thriller!
I enjoyed this quite a bit. The author did a great job tying the detective's experience as a magician (not the magical kind) and his wariness of psychics in with the mystery. I was confused, in a good way, by what was going on and I didn't figure it out.
It took a while to get into this one but once I did I thought it was interesting. I was especially impressed with how Bailey explained away the abilities of the psychic in a matter of fact way. It wrapped up well.
amazing how the main character can now keep such an open mind, yet, at the same time, weed out the scam artists.
is not a Christian book nor author, but ... still IS a book that proves you should NEVER give up hope on something, at least NOT til "the fat lady sings"
i'll now redouble my efforts to track down "The Answer Man", which i believe, is another/last book in this series!!!
O.K. I certainly did not hate this book, but I didn't love it either. It was not an "edge of the seat", "can't put it down". Although, I did not guess "who done it", I certainly did not have any emotion about who did. The characters were likeable enough, but the story didn't move me. I don't love supernatural topics, but I like the way the main character "debunked" psychics, and the like. I would probably give the author, and these characters another shot.
Roy Johansen has another great thrilling & mysterious story. Deadly Visions keeps you on your toes guessing what will come next. When you think you are going in one direction his stories take you on a totally different path. Such great surprises! With strong characters, his story comes to life and takes you on the adventure.
I loved how Roy Johansson created a story so tightly written that he had me guessing the whole time. His ability to create illusion and then dispel it was intriguing. I liked the characters with all their foibles. Kept me guessing until the end. Nicely written.
This was the first book I read by Roy Johansen. It's funny, you can see his mother's talent in his work. He definitely inherited her genes! Great read. Great twist.
