MISSION IMPOSSIBLE

The young ninja Kagetora has been given a great honor–to serve a renowned family of skilled martial artists. But on arrival, he’s handed a challenging teach the heir to the dynasty, the charming but clumsy Yuki, the deft moves of self-defense and combat.

And yet, Yuki’s inability to master the martial arts is not what makes this job so difficult for Kagetora. No, it is Yuki herself. Someday she will dead her family dojo, and for a ninja like Kagetora to fall in love with his master is a betrayal of his duty, the ultimate dishonor, and strictly forbidden. Can Kagetora help Yuki overcome her ungainly nature . . . or will he be overcome by his growing feelings?

Flame of Recca!

Halaaaah.

This manga looked really fun and I was excited to read it since I'm a huge fan of forbidden romances. I was really disappointed to find the main female character is portrayed as a complete ditz the entire manga (which somehow makes Kagetora fall for her). I also wasn't a fan of the unceasing boob and butt close-ups and naked scenes either since they really added nothing to the story and came off as cheap fan service. Overall, the romance fell flat and I wasn't intrigued by either of the lead characters.

Typical shonen romantic comedy! We have a ninja, a ditzy love interest, and her overprotective friend who probably loves her as well!
We also have the typical cleavage shots, bikinis at the beach and the moments where they’re forced to be close... haha but honestly, that’s not that bad. It’s funny and I do think it’s got its charm. I might read on...

My first manga and I have to say I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. The story is cute and I really like the artwork. I am interested in continuing the series. The only thing was I had a hard time getting used to the reading right to left but it became easier by the end.

Ninja Kagetora has accepted a difficult mission: as the personal guard of the prolific Toudou family, he has agreed to train the clumsy Yuki in martial arts. Yuki is a petite klutz, regularly botching her attempts at self-defense and combat, but the difficulty in Kagetora's mission comes from his growing crush on her - feelings that are expressly forbidden. The manga centers on comedy, whether it be Yuki's antics, Kagetora's older brother, or the slapstick battles between Kagetora and Yuki's overprotective friend Kiritani.

The issue with this manga comes from how easy it is to forget - it isn't very memorable. It's full of quick laughs and gorgeous artwork, but I'm not compelled to find out what happens in the next volume. The story didn't mesh very well, either; though about ninjas, the story is set in the present day - Yuki almost gets hit by a truck in the first chapter. Everyone knows that Kagetora is a ninja, and no one really questions the presence of a ninja in present-day Japan. A lot of Kagetora's attraction to Yuki is physical; many frames feature close-ups of her chest or have her naked (so many bath scenes!). It makes his love shallow, because we only see that he loves her petite cuteness; for this reason, I didn't find myself rooting for the main character despite his difficult situation.

Overall, the art is cute, but the story is a little underdeveloped.

Kagetora: Volume 1 is a fun book about a ninja stuck in modern Tokyo trying to help a clumsy girl become a martial arts expert. The artwork in this book is top-notch and I was really excited to get started on a story about a ninja.

I was hoping for a lot of action, adventure, and such. Instead, I found a story of a 17-year old boy falling for a 16-year old girl who doesn't even know he exists and his struggle within himself to not show his emotions. Of course, his conscious, which is played by his ninja monkey named Kosuke, reminds him frequently with hand-written signs when he become distracted with Yuki.

I thought that the translation flowed pretty well.

Overall, Kagetora: Volume 1 is a great beginning to a series that promises to deliver some punches. I can't wait to see how much Yuki's training has progressed in Kagetora: Volume 2, although I doubt it will have progressed very far.

I rated this book an 8 out of 10.

This high school/martial arts/comedy/romance manga is cute, but nothing special. A renowned family of martial artists has a young daughter who is, at best, a klutz, and so they hire a ninja to become her personal trainer. For reasons that don't make sense at all, the family tells everyone that he's a ninja, and things slide into slapstick very rapidly. The twist is that the young daughter is cute and tiny, and the ninja immediately falls for her, which is against the rules while he's working for her family. So, there are lots of scenes to work that into the comedic parts.
So, if you've already worn out your copies of Full Metal Panic, and want something else that's similar, but with swords and shuriken instead of guns, then you might like this. Writing lapses, such as the way the writer goes for a quick punchline instead of coherent comedy, kept me from giving this book a third star.

For a first volume I am going to let a few things slide. I like the premise, forbidden love between two adorable cute people. But I think that the problem with this volumes lies in the constant repetition of his duties and her being cute. Super repetitive. But I am willing to continue reading as I really wanna know how this series eventually turns. I hope since we have clearly established what is going on here and how this is not supposed to be a love story, that the love story can continue and actually develop into a decent story. I hope it isnt just them repeating the same things OVER AND OVER again..because that will tire out before volume 3...but I do really like the art style and the characters are precious. Hope it gets better! I like it okay.

Hmm - Bettie and Manga - will the two go together? We shall see...

Later - romantic fluff. Don't see the allure at all.
