de Montfort's Crown

Rate this book
King Henry is not a good king. His son, The Lord Edward, promises strength but the Earl of Leicester, Simon de Montfort seeks the throne and the crown. When civil war erupts there is only one place for the knights of the valley, now led by the Warlord’s heir, Sir Henry Samuel, and that is by the side of the king. For good or ill they will do as they have always done and support the king. Their fate is entwined with the Plantagenets.

I was born in 1950 in Lancashire and attended a boy’s grammar school. After qualifying as an English and Drama teacher in 1972, I worked in the North East of England for the next 35 years. During that time I did write, mainly plays, pantos and musicals for the students at the three schools in which I worked.

When I stopped teaching I set up my own consultancy firm and worked as an adviser in schools and colleges in the North East of England. The new Conservative Government ended that avenue of work and in 2010 I found that I had time on my hands; having started work at the age of 15 I found the lack of work not to my liking and used the time to research the Roman invasion of Britain and begin to create a novel. The result was The Sword of Cartimandua.

My decision to begin writing was one of the best I have ever taken.

If you are up to this book in the series then you have to be a fan of this family saga. Another "ripping yarn" by Griff. He explains that he writes stories within a historical context rather than "history" and as a fan of both types of writing I know what I'm getting with his books. History often leaves out the "human" side of decisions and motivations and he gives his perspective of why certain people did things the way they did and in the context of their times rather than ours. Now to move on to Lord Edward's archer series! :)

The Earl is dead! Long live the Earl!

Another wonderful tale of the warriors and knights of ancient England as only the author can tell! I love his works.

I enjoyed all 14 books.

The history, the details, and the story from one generation to the next keeps me from putting the book(s) down.

Hosker strikes again as more intrigue and skullduggery between Crown and usurpers. Great story telling.

Hosker never fails to provide you with accurate accounts of the events of the time whether that be Rome, Normandy, the Anarchy etc. Great series
