This volume opens up with Haru and Belinka falling to their doom. If this was the case, then you know there would be no subsequent Rave Master volumes, but it is still a great way to begin this volume! Page 68-69 are my favorite pages of this volume. Very impactful and artistically pleasing to the eye. The battles in this volume are top-notch and the stakes keep growing greater. Immortality is a tough thing to defeat…and Hardner has it. Great solid volume of adventures and battles! Hiro Mashima should be given a lot of praise for this.

Finally the Blue Guardian Arc gets the thrilling action I've been waiting for. So much good character moments and some fantastic action sequences. Everything is finally building up for one epic final showdown and the exiting end to a long, long arc.

Hiro Mashima, Rave Master, vol. 27 (Tokyopop, 2004)

Now that I've gone back and read vol. 23, I think I've got my head on straight again, but getting back into the scheme of the storyline where I left off was still a touch confusing. Not to worry, though, Mashima kicks this volume off in the usual Rave Master style, which is to say fast and furious. The gang have to find Elie before Hardner does; now that the ring is active again, he wants to fuse himself with Elie so he can use the power of etherion to summon, and merge with, Endless. (Which leads to one big question: is that a one-shot ring? Hardner never thought of THAT, did he?) Things look grim against Six Guard, but some old pals pop out of the woodwork to help, and infighting amongst the guard improves their chances even more. But when Let finds out what Hardner's Dark Bring is capable of, he starts to wonder if even the Rave Master can put this guy to bed.

Mashima says in the afterword that v.28 will be the final volume in the BG storyline, and that the final story will commence afterwards, so you know that things are going to be jet fuel-paced after this. Take a breather while you can—not that you get much chance here. Good stuff, as usual. *** 1/2
